Don’t remember, but I think some where from USA.
If it was only the USA servers that had 250+ ping it is normal , for its on the other side of the world . If you are still having issues on EU servers , them maybe try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it for some data may have corrupted in the files . For conan does have bad servers , but what you are experiencing sounds like a proplem with the game itself .
I think one thing that sorta busts this theory of it being individuals internet connection, is that the issues have gotten worse and changed over time. I play on Officials on PS5, I was one of the first to start posting about this issue, and for me it started happening exclusively against Rotbranch. Within a few weeks it was happening when I fought the Wight’s, and shortly after that, the worst part of the entire “Lost Connection”, the dreaded kicks during the Purge. I’m no expert, but that to me doesn’t sound like it’s an issue with my router or anything on my end (I could be wrong, just my opinion).
My PS5 is hard-wired into my router, 1.5GB speed in the downtown core of a large city. So I don’t believe there are any issues with my internet.
I do hope they can manage to solve these issues, because it really is hurting the game. I’ve managed to change my play style up a bit to try and adapt, but I still get “Lost Connection” at least 4 or 5 times every time I play.
Deacons wording was bad , but he has a point . Some people complain about the servers without checking everyother reason before coming here . Like they may have bad internet or they may have old software .
Playstation is still running on the ps4 version sadly , also purge atm is very laggy , normally crashing anyones game that goes near it. Thats why im its getting changed in the age of war update
And I can understand it, but here there are tons of people with DIFFERENT hardware, software, country, connections etc… and we all share the same problem.
Have you considered that maybe it’s the hardware on server side to be outdated and underperforming ?
The first time I ever used G-portal was for a personal server for testing purposes. It was a little 10 man server and unmodded. Ran just fine. Didn’t really have any issue with it. But it only ever had like 2-3 players on at the most and not many structures.
The second time I used G-portal was a server a friend started and asked me to help moderate and manage it. This server had around 20 mods and a playerbase of around 20-25 players (not online at the same time, so a small server). This is where things got a little different.
About a month in, the server started having some issues. It stopped showing up on the server browser. Direct connect was the only way to login, and it would take 5-10 minutes to do so. Once you got in, server FPS was around 10 (normally 30) and dropped as you were online. Enemies could not be damaged and moved really erratically. And rubberbanding was really bad, getting worse the longer you stayed on. Eventually it would just kick you off.
Updates to the server, the mods, and changing configurations all failed to resolve the problem. We were talking about a wipe, but only being a month in, we were not even sure that would work and that the problem would simply come back.
I downloaded the database and ran it in Singleplayer. No issue. I loaded it locally into a dedicated server. No issue. In both cases all mods were on. We had tried with the mods turned off on G-portal but it was still displaying the same issues.
So I told my friend I would try it on another server host. If it had issues, we’d have to wipe and I would use that host for testing for the month I had it. Well… you all know where this is going by now. It ran fine on the host. And ran fine for over a year, with all the mods on, until we swapped over to Isle of Siptah.
The service with G-portal was then dropped. Of course I would point out this is only an anecdote. But in general, I’ve heard of similar experiences that other players have had with G-portal in the past. Either the servers run badly, and most importantly, their mod support is atrocious. Some modders have elected to state their mods are incompatible with G-portal to avoid going through troubleshooting them for the literal thousandth time.
Now with all that said. We should cover some actual facts. Unless they are lying. G-portal’s hardware is on par with every other server host in the top 20. Its literally the same CPUs and configuration for the most part. One thing we know for certain is their UI for controlling the servers is proprietary. Its their own thing. Though since it downloads the server software from the same source… this shouldn’t matter.
But what we don’t know is how they are setting up the instances. Are they spreading the resources too thin? Anecdotal evidence says yes. I would be curious to see the results of taking one of Funcom’s servers and running it in either singleplayer, home dedicated server, or a different server host and see what happens.
Those are interesting observation. Sadly I don’t have knowledge to analyze them, nor I have the power to do something.
Those who have it are the guys at Funcom, and those are the ones this topic was meant for.
I don’t know what the problem is, I just know there is a problem with CE on Official Servers.
I like this game, and I’m really enthusiast about Age of War. Only thing is I want to be able to play it, but things are just getting worse and worse.
Sadly, what you have said has mirrored many a post on these and other forums regarding Official Server performance stretching back years. I would say it is safe to say that is where I would start looking with that much history.
Not going to retread the same road further as a short google search will provide all the reading and video you would or will require on the subject.
Apparently, a great many people try to do that by yelling FIX IT! very loudly.
May I ask when the issues with g-portal startet? ![]()
For our private server it was with the 3.0 Update.
We got server client desyncs, disconnects, data base errors, 5 Fps with 25 players online.
Before 3.0 our server was running fine, with 35 players online during prime time on average, for 3 years.
I was just saying I play the game on PS5, so certain issues are far less prevalent, not the “Lost Connection” though ![]()
I get the Purge once a week as a solo player on Officials, so I’m very very familiar with them. My experience is that if a Purge spawns off your base, without any 3 skull bosses, this Purge can be close to normal. I had a Frost Giant purge on Sunday and only “Lost Connection” twice, both times as a Sabertooth jumped at me (the Purge spawned away from my base and because of a cliff, were unable to get too close).
If any of the waves spawn on or inside your base, it will almost certainly kick you and not let you back in until the Purge timer ends, regardless of if there’s a 3 skull or not. I have had it let me back in for very brief times in those scenarios, but it generally just keeps kicking me. I’ve experienced all scenarios several times to varying degrees over the past 3-4 months.
I still keep triggering the Purge because I love the challenge, especially now since I don’t bring a thrall with me (as I lost too many in other Purges with all the “Lost Connection”). It’s an amazing mechanic, and I hope the new Purge gets rid of the current issues. I don’t think we’ll fully know until it’s completely implemented in Age of War 2. I thought I heard them say they’ll continue to let Purges be the same through Age of War 1, while we gather treasure (the coffer will have no bearing on the Purge meter until Age 2 I believe).
This is probably my favourite game of all time, and I really hope they can fix this major “Lost Connection” issue so many are experiencing, especially during the Purge ![]()
This was 2018 in my example.
FIX IT ! … ok
I was wondering: why Funcom guys don’t change server’s company ?
They are using G-Portal atm, which I read is not very good … maybe another company would provide better servers ?
Also, wouldn’t it be better to have less Servers but with higher performance ?
ATM CE has … I don’t know, 100 ? 150 servers all around ther world.
Wouldn’t it be better with like … 50 Servers but way more performant ?
It’s a matter of over all costs, I’m sure Funcom has a contract with Gportal and get a nice discount for advertising their servers in game.
Now as players I’m sure we would all like more robust servers that can easily handle the load. But those wouldn’t be cheap.
Would you pay a subscription fee to play on admin active OFFICIAL servers?
If so, how much?
My opinion what we play on now are simply public servers, and as I’ve said before much like public bathrooms with out active janitorial services.
I’ve also said before buying the battle pass aught to entitle us to better servers.
Now I am tired of playing alone. I want to see other players running around, a few pretty builds here and there, chatter in the chat.
And on the other hand I don’t see private servers as a viable option. They go 3 ways and some times they can be all 3.
1: Got board with game after a few months closed server.
2: Over loaded with mods and all the slow loading, bugs, and coding conflicts that come with them.
3: Down as much as up.
Now I like civilized vanilla. The only mods I’d want is a better UI with a bit clearer info and a mini map. And one that would allow me to continue to level to max all attributes.
I’m still a solo player. I don’t play well with others so don’t clan. You normies can just be so aggravating.
They have a partnership. What that entails is between two businesses and nothing that will probably be told to use. We can infer a few things.
Funcom has hundreds of servers. I really really doubt they are paying 1000+ x $321.20 per year (the going rate for G-Portal). I suspect it is a lot less… possibly even at very little to no cost. Why?
Because of console exclusivity. You can’t get a server that isn’t G-portal as a private server on console. In addition even on PC when you click the Rent a Server button, it takes you directly to G-portal in game. Most people’s first server that they host themselves is G-portal for this reason.
Even if they didn’t have a contract saying they couldn’t switch. There is no server host offering a pricepoint that matches what is available through that partnership with gportal.
Understood.
But I think Funcom guys should really think about the current situation. CE is not the same game they released years ago. When I first played it, it was 40GB, now it is 80.
And the fact that servers are stressed out is not an opinion, it’s a fact. They go offline quite often, have disconnection problems, and much more …
I don’t know what the situation really is, Funcom guys probably know better.
I’m just saying that I’m probably not going to play anymore if every time I have to lose 30 minutes to enter the game. And I’m really excited about Age of War.
BUT, devs said they were going to fix those problems, so I think I should at least wait and see. I just don’t think this situation can be solved without acting on the servers themselves.
Well they do, and they do improve things.
In 2017, the game slugged on the best servers past 40 players and going to 70 wasn’t really recommended. From 2018 to 2021 the 70 player servers became kind of the normal max capacity. This was due to improvements in how the database was stored and its efficiency. More improvements came last year and now we see 80-100 player servers.
These really high capacity servers weren’t possible when the game was first available.
The issue that you see on Funcom Provided Servers is the improvements have allowed them to stay current with the new additions (as you said 40GB to 80GB). If those improvements didn’t exist, those servers would not be functioning today.
Now here is the rub. Players who have played on Funcom Provided Servers are used to a degraded game experience. That’s normal to them. for most of us it is not however. So stopping content and features for improvements to a subset of servers isn’t exactly acceptable to us.
When I say a normal ‘degraded’ performance, I mean due to server issues. Not the current disconnect issues which were fixed in Age of War.
The other thing to consider is we don’t exactly know for sure that new features and content is the actual cause (or even contribute) of the issues that Funcom Provided Servers have. That’s an assumption. There’s a correlation of new content and features added over time and the servers getting progressively worse. But time could be a cause, I do know the older a database gets (assuming it has active players) worse. And the more people build (when I say build I mean adding to their bases, increasing their storage of materials, and other generalize uses of personal space) the worse a server gets.
One of the major issues of these servers is online player counts. When they get over 20, it gets nearly unplayable. The simple fix with that is to set the limit to 20. But to be honest, I don’t think Funcom is allowed to do that. Seeing a bunch of ‘Hosted by G-Portal’ servers cut their capacities in half might be construed as a breach of contract there.
This is just a bit of a theory. But I think those servers are just Funcom’s way of getting some servers out there for players to have without paying anything or having technical setups. And in return they act as free advertising for G-Portal.
To put it simply, those servers are advertisements.
And get this… while they say ‘Official’. None of them say Funcom in the title, but they all say g-portal. Funcom’s only interaction is through a UI tool to start and stop them, and to administer them when someone acts naughty.
To be honest, I’m surprised they don’t have Gportal billboards and pop ups on those servers.
Just for saying, it’s been like this yesterday and the day before:

It’s third day I can’t even login on server. That’s why I keep saying Funcom should leave partnership with G-Portal. There are other providers they can make partnership with.
