I just put up a server via a hosting company and I’m having a strange problem where food doesn’t spoil while offline. It doens’t matter if it’s on my body or in a container, when I’m offline the spoil timer seems to stop. The world remains persistent as workbenches will continue to craft, it’s only the spoil timer that freezes. I’ve searched far and wide for some setting that may affect this and I can’t find anything. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?
When you log out while alone in an area , the server will put the area you were in back in idle mode, calculating the bare minimum it has to ( so basicaly the workbenches will continue since it’s not part of the things the server “turn off” while idle ) . You can easily test it , have a friend stay near your base/body while you are offline , you’ll see that the meat will spoil ( as long as another player is in the area , to make the server calculate it )
If your body doesn’t remain in world when you logoff, then nothing expires in your inventory when you logout.
This must be it then, thanks.
I wonder if PVPers (especially if playing solo) can use this dynamic to see if other players were around them during their off-line time. Log out when there is no spoiled meat in your inventory and one piece has about 30sec. or less before it goes bad.
If there’s a spoiled meat when you return, someone was there.
