Another poster had a similar situation where it was not responding within the task manager, see here especially the end where he figured out what was causing this for him.

I’ve dealt with similar random freezes, and in my case it came down to GPU drivers and background apps clashing with the game. Try disabling overlays (like GeForce or Discord), running in windowed mode, and checking for thermal throttling. Also, verify game files and keep an eye on Event Viewer—often the crash logs point to the real culprit.

Sounds like a zombie, which changes nothing until a complete reboot. It is basically TSR’d – terminate and stay ready (days of old). Then, the next gen chips came out with an explicit solution to zombies. Yes, it works. If the task manager opened up about that thread, it would be that much easier to destruct/finalize that zombie process. It is stuck, however.

That makes “uptime” a competition. :innocent:

The freezes do appear to come from another process. It just spams the OS with foul play. I haven’t disassembled it but running completely vanilla works. If you halt the task, then it has that chance to break. I suggest the twin cooperative mode, if you want to try anti-freeze. That is almost constrainable. (and, there are too many ideas to list here.) I hope that made sense.

Good day!

P.S. This is related to I meant this kind of zombie process.

Hey there, @Killdozer!

As @cyc already pointed out, there was someone with a relatively similar, but not identical problem recently and they figured out that playing No Man’s Sky or Conan Exiles would cause their machine to become unstable and glitch other games afterwards, which could be prevented by a reboot.

I’m not sure that would apply to you, but my advice would be to check that first.

Unfortunately, if that doesn’t help, then diagnosing the problem becomes a lot more difficult and might not be something that other players could help with. If you wish to try getting help from other players, the first thing you would need to do is provide more data:

  • Did this start recently or was it always happening?
    • If it’s more recent, is there anything on your machine that was updated around the time problems started? For example: Conan Exiles got updated, drivers got updated, OS got updated, some other game or app was installed, etc.
  • Are your graphics drivers up to date? Were they up to date before the problems started?
  • Did you install or replace any hardware components?

If I were a Funcom dev, I would probably ask for a log file, too, but I’m not, so it wouldn’t be very useful to me. However, there are people on the forums who have dug deeper into how Conan Exiles works, so they might be able to glean something from the logs, if you choose to upload them.

Good luck and hopefully someone can help! :+1:

This is sound advice , clear and well laid out, it should be a sticky for all as it could not have been said any better and covers the beginnings of trouble shooting.

Well said @CodeMage
