16 out of 40 on the server and all 6 of the people being chatty on the server can’t move stuff between storage and inventory, inventory takes forever to load, and other bogged down server problems.
Absolutely stupid and unacceptable. Funcom should consider cutting ties with gportal or threaten legal/executive action to make them get their crap in line. This game, ok lets be honest, this company, already has a bad reputation, they don’t need a 3rd rate hosting service adding to their bad rep.
They are likely bound by a contract, and suing to get out of it might cost them too much.
Conan Exiles had another host before the game officially launched that screwed them over just as launch was approaching, so they had to quickly change hosts and got Gportal instead.
Because of the desperate situation Funcom was in at that time, Gportal would have had a lot of leverage to negotiate an unfavorable contract against Funcom.
Obviously Funcom will likely never discuss the details of their third party business deals, so this is purely speculative.
What they need to do is actually go on servers and enforce the ToC so 99.9% of PVE servers aren’t so overly built.
I’m not saying moving to better servers wouldn’t fix a few issues; like dumb AI, but it isn’t the only cause of issues on the public servers.
And have had before Conan. Look back at all of funcom’s games, Conan is SOP for funcom, Dune will be no different. An almost great game funcom will develop to mediocrity.
I think they got a good deal by adding the Gportal link to the game.
Now I will point out a while back the server I was on was down for a couple days, when it finally came back up it was running much better. Could be they are migrating games to better or newer server blades. You know they would never tell us.
Ever stop to think the reason funcom seems to be ignoring the hacks, and exploits in PVP and the over builds the make PVE run like crap is to get people to abandon the public servers so they can shut them down and not have to worry with them any more?
No more reports to ignore, no more PVPers griping about hackers, no more gripes about bans, or fellow players that ought to get banned, no more gripes about how players build.
Thing is, I’m not the only one they would pay a bit for a funcom active admined vanilla server. I wish part of the battle pass had been that option, I’d have subbed to it. I don’t do private servers because most have a mods list that look like the rolling end credits for Star wars. So you end up waiting for days for everything to update after an update.
Here’s the problem. G portal rents servers to people. Many private servers have unique bugs or lousy performance even if they are “new servers” with low population.
This is by far their fault and not Funcoms. They should have troubleshooting services since they ask for money.
They are by far a money grabbing company without any doubt.
I agree, but both funcom/tencent and Gportal don’t care about us, some Latin American servers are completely broken and much worse than American servers, and nothing has been done despite several reports and posts, including even here on the forum
Back in earlier days and it wasn’t too long after FC changed server hosts,
I had a problem with GPortal that was specific to GPortal and how it involves running multiple instances of servers on multi-core CPUs.
(I had rented a server and provided it with a specifically unique name).
The big probem was my server was showing up as being run by someone else, even though the IP addess was the same. Needless to say, I couldn’t log into my server with the password I had set up.
When I contacted customer support on this matter, the reply I got from the rep told me everything I needed to know.
They simply just couldn’t understand why I was having this problem.
They told me straight up, Exiles was not popular and they didn’t see much of a reason to maintain service for it on their servers and would not accept responsibility for the issue that their setup is what caused the problem.
I want to make this perfectly clear to anybody who reads this.
This incident didn’t happen just once or twice, the third time it happened was the last straw,
and they came across as though they didn’t give a rat-shit about it.
For that, I cancelled the agreement I had with them because what they did was in bad faith and bad business practice.
To say they are incompetent is being too naive for the shit they pulled.
To say the least, they screwed over FC and us.
I would be utterly AMAZED if they did so. Good luck ever negotiating another contract with a 3rd party client after publicly discussing a current 3rd party client contract.
However this part here. This is completely correct and I agree with you that this is the core reason why we are all stuck with G-Portal (expect for PC Private servers who have the option to host with other server providers, unlike PS and XBox private server who can ONLY host on G-Portal).
Now, I am not going to say there are zero issues on private PC servers that host on none G-Portal servers, but I can say that said issues are severely limited comparatively, at least from my experience.
