Same here, after playing for bit I thought my character was glitched to always move as if mounted so I came here looking for a fix. I can understand having the momentum system for mounts, on horseback it actually feels ok, but on foot it feels both sluggish and slippery.
This (sometimes sadly, but mostly thankfully).
Whaaat? All of my suggestions have been entirely valid, thematic and reasonable.
But I have indeed found that Funcom communicates with their customers very well. When I first made this forum account, originally only to report a bug, early this year, I was positively surprised how actively Funcom engaged in solving my issue, and when they were unable to replicate the bug in their lab conditions, asked me to send my save files for them to investigate - and as it turned out, they eventually even fixed the bug.
When it comes to game features (as opposed to bugs) one must remember that the player base is far from homogenous. There is a huge variety of preferences when it comes to playing this same game. So when Funcom listens to their customers in opinion-based matters they need to consider what the majority of players want, what fits their own vision of the game, what is technically feasible, etc. As great as it would be to customize the game for everyone individually, it’s just not possible. And they can’t make and then revert changes on a whim.
That’s why a game company can’t make knee-jerk reactions to customer feedback. Hundreds or thousands of man-hours have been spent on making the new feature, so the company can’t just shrug and say “oh well, guess they didn’t like it” and roll it back. They need to collect and analyze actual data on how the new feature has been received. A couple of forum polls is insufficient to make any large-scale decisions, as forum polls tend to attract mostly a particular type of crowd - as evidenced by the fact that this new feature has brought many new people to the forums to express their opinion.
Listening to their customers is one thing. I feel that Funcom does that adequately. Acting based on anecdotal data is another thing, and I’m glad they don’t do that more often.
Facepalms face, hard!
I did. sorry to be blunt but except the Thrall lvling f…uc…k this update. 1.1k Hours on Conan and this made me register…
I did.
The more I think about it, I think the momentum “feature” and the new rolls are 100% related to the mounts addition.
If they did not nerf dismounted mobility, mounts would be useless against infantry because all you’d have to do is roll out of the way, recover instantly, and shoot arrows / throw javelins at the rider who committed to the charge. The new molasses style of stopping / starting also incentivizes mount usage, even though the fact you can’t have a mount and a thrall on official servers is such an overwhelming disincentive that it doesn’t really matter.
I don’t think they though this through, but even so, I suspect the announced hotfix for momentum will be minimalist-- as they said they are committed to these changes. I don’t think they’ll change rolls at all because that would kill mount’s advantage over infantry.
I’ve gotten used to the rolls, though I must say it is not fun as it used to be, but the momentum and slowlness of stopping / starting is intolerable. I look forward to any changes there.
Hate to say it, but these radical decisions by Funcom vs. the original configuration of movement / mobility is going to impact my playing this game in the future. If movement and rolling were like this when I started out, I doubt I would have continued playing.
I really hope they can make make movement tolerable again at least.
Registered after reading the announcement on steam in Nov.
That wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction. That was an organizational and scheduling snafu. It’s the textbook example of being between a rock and a hard place, and then having to face the fallout. It’s Funcom’s fault, sure, but I do have sympathy for them and hope they learn from it
I did.
Never felt the need to express myself on the fourm until this patch.
Otherwise I bought the game week 1 of EA and Iwatch Jens’s stream since the beginning.
I did, though largely in hope of aiding in meaningful discussion towards the betterment of the game. Criticism is a thing but we don’t help the developers or the game if we don’t make it constructive.
I already did before. But i am using it to protest the new changes. They are the worst things they have ever done to the game.
