I lost ALL knowledge after blue screenšŸ˜©

Basic Info:

Platform: PlayStation 4
Issue Type: Gameplay
Game Mode: Single Player
Server Type: PvE
Map: Exiled Lands
Server Name: =SERVER NAME=

Bug Description:

Bought the game 2 days ago on ps4 pro, itā€™s laggy but I did the ā€œdonā€™t show journey stepsā€-fix, and it has been a bit better since, but now I got a blue screen of death and when I logged in most of the stuff I had put in chests was in my inventory, one of my thralls is gone and when I tried to build ALL of my learnt knowledge is gone. I can build an altar but every single other recipe is gone. I didnā€™t get the knowledge points back. This is so frustrating!!! I really would enjoy the game if it wasnā€™t this crappy

Hi @cajsaw and welcome to the Conan Exiles community! I am sorry to hear that you had a crash and are experiencing difficulties. Fellow Offline Singleplayer here, used to be ps4, but have upgaraded to ps5 nowadays. The beauty of our mode is there is almost always a way for us to regain whatever we lose. Now I have some questions and some suggestions for you today.

Ok so a few of questions to start. 1) had you consumed a Yellow Lotus Potion since starting your game? 2) had you previously made yourself Admin in your game? 3) what level are you and did you lose any levels when the game crashed?

I have had a rather similar discussion with another member in a separate thread recently, and I feel that much of that advice can be salvaged here. I have to get to work, but I will post plenty more when I get home this evening, but should you get this in th meantime, feel free to respond to the questions.

Admin Panel can fix alot of this.

Blue Screens and how game pulls from saves can be pretty bad. Had Blue Screen after nabbing Bazaar items. Needless to say, after reloading game, I lost all items it gives you. So no zombie potions or lighting storms for me. Not all of them can be grabbed from Admin Panelā€¦ -_-ā€™

So what were you doing before the crash? Depending on what borked, you may just have to click skill and rebuy it. (the point is spent, and game just needs you to reclick it)
Could be just a missing Feat requirement that was lost.

I would open Admin Panel and nab yourself Yellow Lotus Potion and down it.
And see what you get back in return for Stats and Feats. And then respend them. If you feel your being outted on right amount, you can add some back (Admin Panel)

Most of other recipes, Like dances, weapons like Darfari Swords, can be nabbed in Admin Panel or regrabbed on map (they respawn)

If thrall was recently placed, But now Missing. Youā€™ll need open up Follower Page and confirm its not in rooster. OR Game simply loaded them back in Area the game last saved its location, and then head over and nab them. (you can use command bring them to you, and lose items they had) (Admin Panel to recover what was lost)
Or its in your inventoryā€¦ had that happen once after blue screen.

Otherwise, Thralls is sadly done.

If thrall was still KOā€™d, and being dragged around, they will reset back to spawn spot if you go to far, or on reload. (sometimes they fall thru ground) You can also check a spot(I forget its location) in North of map, Off edge of lakeā€¦ missing items spawn about whats basiclly a 0-0 spot on map XD
Sometimes youā€™ll catch stuff in floating in sky. =p

Ok I am back cajsaw, lets see what we can do to rectify this situation for you.

My understanding of the saving system for Conan Exiles, which should not be regarded as gospel, is that the game auto-saves periodically, ever ā€˜Xā€™ minutes, but will also update the save upon interacting with our spawn point, i.e.-a Bed or Bedroll. I wonder if it possible that when the game crashed, it reverted back to the last auto-save? Hence when you next logged on your game had reverted back to its last auto-save. But regardless, the good news is that in Singleplayer mode we can regain lost items at will. The first step is to make yourself Admin:

press ā€˜Optionsā€™ (pause) > go into ā€˜Settingsā€™ > then go over to ā€˜Server Settingsā€™ > in ā€˜Generalā€™ press X on 'Make Me Admin. It will show a message: admin rights granted. I recommend that from here you go back one and down to the ā€˜Survivalā€™ menu > and ensure that ā€˜drop equipment on deathā€™ is unchecked. You will no longer lose all your items when you die! Next go back one again and down to ā€˜Buildingā€™ > ensure that ā€˜allow building anywhereā€™ and ā€˜disable building abandonmentā€™ are both checked. You can now build anywhere and you home will never decay!

With that taken care of we can now go about reclaiming your lost items. This can be done one of two ways. Press Options > then go to I) Creative Mode > activate it, then spawn the any decorations, crafting stations or T1 shrines you have lost. Alternatively, II) from Options > go to Admin Panel > then input the name of any items you have lost into the search bar in the upper right corner and check the 4 tabs below.

Just a friendly, precautionary heads up. There are a few items (not many though) in the Admin Panel which could potentially throw a wrench in your games progress. :warning: Warning. For now, do NOT use it to level yourself, and certainly not any higher than level 60! Or you may end up with an incorrect number of Attribute points, and as far as I am aware, there is no way to fix this.

I would also strongly advise against using a Yellow Lotus Potion as Sera67 suggested for now, as it is known to be bugged and cause several issues. I have another method in mind first . But I do not wish to overload you anymore than I already have @cajsaw. Try these out first, and if you can, tell us if it helped and answer any questions you can. The more information we have, the better our chances of helping you sort this out. Good luck Cajsaw!

Thank you for all your advice! I was mad for about 20 minutes then I just re-crafted all my gear and went gathering new materials. I had a lot of knowledge points so I just re-learned everything. A thrall suddenly showed up in my house, and I think itā€™s the same one that I lost but Iā€™m not sure lol. After the crash I spawned a distance from my house, close, but not that close. When I spawned I had lost all my equipped gear and I was over encumbered by like 200%. Iā€™ve just been playing since sunday so Iā€™m levelling up pretty quickly, I donā€™t remember which level I was at before or after it happened, but at least I didnā€™t lose all of them, just all crafting recipes. I donā€™t want to use the cheat options because I know once I start I cant stop and I will use it too much, and that kind of defeats the purpose of a survival game for me.
I have set myself as admin, and Iā€™ve set it so that I donā€™t drop my stuff when I die, and a few other things, but Iā€™ve noticed the settings reset sometimes, so I usually go and check all settings every time I start the game.

And also - the show journey steps setting - a lot of times it shows the journey steps even though the box is unchecked, and I have to go and check it and then uncheck it for them to go away. The game still gets laggy after that happens, and I have to restart the game, but as long as I donā€™t do any journeys at all itā€™s fine.

If a Thrall is left on ā€œwaitā€ or not set to a position, theyā€™ll reset to last spot you placed them. Logging out of game or leaving them sets a timer.

You playin for abit, they reset back to there spot. (as I mention above, they were likely listed on Map and Follower Page.

Now I logged in, and all my equipped tools and weapons were gone except a mace. My follower is far away, I set her to guard there yesterday at one point, but I know I set her to guard outside my house before logging out, just to be sure sheā€™d be there. At least my learnt knowledge is there still

update: and my bed is gone from my house, and also an artisan table and armorers bench. Whaaat

update 2: Some learnt knowledge is gone - I still know stone tools but iron and steel are gone, a lot of crafting stations are gone. I learned steel stuff yesterday, but Iā€™ve known iron since sunday

Sounds like your Save is Borked, Or you have decay or something in setting not set right.

I really want to vote later.

Double check (since your in SP) that decay is off. You donā€™t need it on. Objects not placed on Foundations or Connected could be going poof, as games not treating them as ā€œyoursā€

Make sure things arenā€™t clipping into walls. Iā€™ve had things go poof for being slightly in mountain side or a wall. (thou that hasnā€™t happen to me in sometimeā€¦ Iā€™m more careful about placement now,

Always happy to help where I can, both bow and into the future.

I do not want to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like you drank a Yellow Lotus Potion. What it does is ā€˜refundā€™ the points we hav already spent so that we can redistribute them elsewhere, especially while still levelling and our total pool is limited. However, I would still advise against using it, as it can delete learned feats, by that I mean recipes we discover while adventuring, not starter ones. With Admin active you can simply press Triangle while on the Attributes or Knowledge screens to respec that way without risk. Or you can find this NPC who will teach you some alternative potions which will do this, without the attached risk.

There is a high chance. If we die (a crash would likely have the same outcome) our thralls and pets will make their way back to wherever they were last told to ā€˜guardā€™, usually home. Do bear in mind we can also use the Rescue feature to bring them back to us immediately, BUT they will relinquish any equipped weapons and armor.

There is a way to both track and retrieve thralls. When you press the large black button tab over to ā€˜Followersā€™. Now scroll down to an lost ones and you can press ā–” to track them, which will make a small person icon appear on the map. When at your base you can also press X on the thrall in question, the > Rescue option to make them teleport to you at once. But the catch is you thrall will lose any items that were in their inventory.

Aaargh. @cajsaw I am sorry to hear of this horrible luck. Tell me, just to check and rule this out did you remember to press ā–” on either your bed or bedroll before logging out, and to use the Options button to select quit that way first?

If so then I am inclined to agree with @Sera67 that your save file may have been damaged in the crash. It has happened to me before too. See if it is still in that state next time you log in, and if this persists, all I can recommend short of starting again, is to Rebuild Database on your ps4 pro. It may :crossed_fingers: just resolve it, but unfortunatey it is not a sure fire thing. If worst comes to worst and you must start over, I will tell you how to get back to where you were in less than 30 mins using the menu previously discussed. Good Luck cajsaw!

Thanks! No, I didnā€™t click square on my bed before quitting the game, does that save it?
I just logged in and it seems like the game hasnā€™t saved maybe an hour of gameplay back. I noticed my saddle making-bench is gone, and the last thing I did yesterday was to craft that and then a saddle for my horse.

Edit: AND ALL KNOWLEDGE IS GONE AGAIN :sob::sob:
Fml, Iā€™ll have to start over nowšŸ˜” Can I cheat to regain all my levels somehow?

Yes, there a Panel with several spots to Click various options like level up once, or even Set your Level.

Hi @cajsaw. My understand is that it does. I always press ā–” on either my Bed or Bedroll before logging off, and am sure to press Options > Quit, to do it that way, and it saves the game within a couple of seconds of that press on my Bed/Bedroll.

Oh my dude that really sucks. The good news is that YES, you absolutely can! If you are resolved to go with this course of action, I suggest going into the ps4ā€™s save data menu, deleting Conan Exiles in case there is any corruption and starting fresh.

Once you have recreated your character and made yourself admin like before, press Options and go to > Admin Panel. Now in the upper left corner you will see 2 relevant options: ā€˜+ levelā€™ and also ā€˜set levelā€™. I havenā€™t used this for a good while now, but you could either enter your level number into Set Level. Or + Level increases your level by one with each press on it it. So just count the number of presses. :slightly_smiling_face: However, a polite caution which I touched on earlier goes with this:

No just in regards to this cajsaw.

Do bear in mind you can also regain building pieces, crafting benches and placeable decorations using Creative Mode, and individual items from the Admin Panel on the far right too if you like. Much like yourself I do not really like to cheat, and only really do so to correct bugs. The way I see it you already payed for the items honestly and built them fair and square. You are just getting ā€˜a refund on some faulty itemsā€™.

Thank you, I restarted and I leveled up quickly using multipliers, and Iā€™d say I was back at level 42 in about 30 minutes. Itā€™s a pain to gather resources, but I really donā€™t want to use creative mode, since I know Iā€™ll end up getting stuff that I didnā€™t have in my original game, just because itā€™s easier than actually going around gathering stuff. I need the survival game feeling :joy:

You are most cajsaw. I hope that this playthrough goes smoother than the last for you. Unfortunately crashes come with the territory sometimes, and more ao on last gen technology. While I wouldnā€™t say it runs like a dream, you will notice a big difference in performance if and when you upgrade to ps5. I certainly did. Feel free to ask myself of the community for more help or tips if you need it. Other than that I would leave you with a couple of pieces of parting advice.

I) forget the Yellow Lotus Potion, its more risk than its worth.
II) always press ā–” on either your bed or bedroll before quitting.
III) buy a basic USB device and backup your save game every now and then, especially as you get well established. If you have any further issues you can always revert to it, and It is better than risking having to start at your beginnings.

Happy gaming Cajsaw!

My pleasure. You too @cajsaw.

It happened again. All knowledge gone, all my gear except an iron pick, pets has stopped their growing process and went back to being cubs, one of my chests is completely wiped. I noticed a bug yesterday with that chest, its a basic wooden box and itā€™s supposed to have 15 slots for storage, but this one has 30 for some reason. When I noticed it I decided to be careful not to use more than 15 slots, but now everything is gone. I used it to store basic resources but there were thousands of each :face_exhaling:
