I purchased the game today off Steam for my Windows 11 Computer.
I have all the updated drivers and a NVidia GeForce RTX 4080
64 Gigs of Ram
13th Gen Intel Core i9
It gives me the Blue Screen (Fatal Error) Moments after the opening Cinematic …shutting my computer down. I have no clue what I can do as I actually want to play the game! Can anyone at all help me? This was my first time loading this game up! I have never played it before, and I have zero mods and zero saved files on it. It is fresh.
A BSoD is most often a hardware issue, however, it could be for a number of reasons, including drivers. That being said, if it was happening to me, and I already checked my video drivers, the first thing I would do is verify the game install in Steam. That can be done by right clicking on the game (in Steam) and selecting “Properties…” From there go to “Installed Files” and click on “Verify integrity of game files” Once this completes, restart your computer (not because it’s required, just because I have no idea when your last clean reboot was ), and try the game again. If you are getting the same BSoD, you might try reinstalling D3D (you can get your DirectX download directly from Microsoft here).
If your problem persists after trying those two very simple things, the next phase is to start looking into your hardware. The best place to check if there are any obvious hardware problems is your Device Manager. Just type “device” into your Windows search and that should pull it up for you. Look for any splats (funny marks) next to any of the devices or see if there is a category labeled Unknown Device. If you don’t see and obvious problems in the Device Manager, then I would run a stress test on the machine for 20-30 minutes and see if it throws the same BSoD on you. OCCT is a popular stress test that OCer’s use and it’s completely free. You can find it at OCBase here.
