Did you remove the possibility to place improved fish traps, in the large water well??

You should still be able to place fish traps in large water wells, have you tried interacting with it first or waiting a while after placing it down, before proceeding to place the traps?
Yes, it works but need to wait for the water to fill up sufficiently
