Improved Farming with a Shovel, Seed Maker and Farmers thrall

Hey there,

I know the topic was discussed a while ago, but I’m bringing it back.

Your comments are more than welcome.

TL;DR

I suggest a new tool, a new crafting station and a new ressource to farm… seeds.

Oh and why not just having a new thrall type (farmers).

Concept:

New Tool: the shovel.

New Crafting Station: the seed maker.

New Ressource: full plant (male, female).

New Thrall: the farmer.

Usage:

  • Use the shovel to collect full grown plants, wild ressources or Planter ressources.

  • Plants collected would be, male and female.

  • Drop one male and one female plant of the same kind (ex aloes) into the Seed Maker crafting station to obtain Seeds.

  • Seeds would have the same Quality mecanics than the armor: Base, Exceptional, Flawless, Legendary.

  • Quality would affect the amount the ressource collected once the seeds had been drop intro a planter.

Ex: Base Planter with Aloes seeds from the Seed Maker.

    • Base = 5 aloes leaves.
    • Exceptional = 10 aloes leaves.
    • Flawless = 15 aloes leaves.
    • Legendary = 50 aloes leaves.
  • Seed Maker crafting station would allow a Farmer Thrall to create better seeds.

    • T1 Farmer = Seeds is produced quicker.
    • T2 Farmer = Seeds produced are Exceptionnal.
    • T3 Farmer = Seeds produced are Flawless.
    • T4 Farmer = Seeds produced are Legendary.

The Shovel and Full Plants

Why do this when we can already collect seeds and plant them? It’s a bit redundant.

Seed Quality

This is just excessive and doesn’t seem like it’d work that well.

Seed Maker

This might be useful to harvest seeds from plants. But more to work with the alterations I’ve made below.

First, we need a new building block around 2x2 square, maybe a 3x3 square upgraded version. In which we “plant” stuff.

This is an automated thing. The 2x2 plot can have 4 plants. The 3x3 can have 9 plants.

This planter burns fuel like wood/coal/oil. You place it in the slot and turn it on.
There are slots to put seeds in. One for each plant you get.

As long as you supply fuel (compost), the plot will grow plants continually, as if they were in the wild.

Farmer thralls give the bonuses up to 200% growing speed or else 2x the resources harvested.

The types of seeds grown dictate what you get. You can get more seeds, flowers, handful of insects, bees, queen bees, etc.

Plants can have a lifespan before they must be replaced. Start a timer once they begin growing. The lifespan can be 24-48 hours. After this period, you put another seed in to continue growing more.

Actually, this would be a good fun overhaul of the frankly frustrating ‘Farming’ mechanics in Conan:Exiles.

Replace the Tier 2 and 3 Crop Plots as they stand (a small cube of stone) with an actual ‘plot’ of land as the crafted item, 1 foundation wide and 2 foundations long.

The necessities of ‘fueling’ this station is, of course, fertilizer and the relevant seeds, but with two other mechanics involved.

A Peasant Thrall that increases crop-maturation and decreases the ‘fuel burn’ similar to how most Tier 1-4 Thralls function.

The other mechanic is water.

If the Crop Plot is within 20 foundations of a water source, either belonging to the player/player’s Clan, or an unclaimed water-source like a naturally-occurring river or pool, then the crop plot will randomly produce X% of seeds of the associated crop, meaning the ‘Crop Plot’ will be able to sustain itself, albeit at a very slow, very limited level.

This isn’t ARK, there is no endless supply of edible crops and berries for us at the drop of a hat thanks to glass hot-houses and endlessly-pooping pig-elephants, this is Hyboria, and even then I’m not entirely certain the Exiled Lands are even in Hyboria given what several NPCs mention about the Gods, the nature of the Exiled Lands itself and the unnatural barrier that surrounds the Exiled Lands, seemingly surrounded by impassible desert and a barrier that instantly kills any Bonded One who attempts to pass through it…

I’m torn between two theories on this that have nothing to do with the thread, so back on topic, sorry OP.

Essentially, if you want small amounts of crops in a hidden base, you use the Peasant Planters. If you want sustainable crops and are willing to have a more expansive base, a Tier 2 Crop Plot, or a Tier 3 Farming Plot that is sustainable and may have more benefits depending upon the type of crop placed within it and the availability of Thralls, Water and more exotic forms of compost could even reliably produce small, sustainable amounts of the rarer and more coveted plant-crops.

Alternatively, a new tool, the threshing tool, aka the farming flail, could be used on plants, gathering seeds and possibly handfuls of insects in larger portions and small amounts of plant fibers, functioning opposite to that of the sickle tool.
