Interacting with mount while mounted

There’s been a few times I accidently was able to do this. For instance while trying to open a chest from horseback, I somehow opened my horses inventory. I’d love to be able to do this on demand, but it seems like it’s only a fluke that happens in unusual circumstances. I’ve tried targeting different areas on my horse to interact while mounted, but can never do it normally. I know in Ark you use a different hotkey while mounted to interact with mount. Maybe CE could add that for us?

I have had this happen as well, I can’t replicate it either though. Would be great to have it as an option!

@Wolfkyn, you have to point the ‘pointer dot’ at the mount to interact while mounted. It is not easy but I can do it every time on a horse. The easiest way is to point at your mounts head or neck. Angling down a little bit helps. Good luck and happing hunting. :beer:

  • Edit: I play on PC, not sure if it’s possible on console.

I tried several times everywhere on the head and neck of the horse, I still can’t get it to work intentionally. I also play on PC. Hopefully they add the ability to do this to the game without it being a fluke.

Are you holding ‘E’ or just tapping it? When you are not mounted, you obviously need to hold ‘E’ to access the mount’s inventory. However, if I remember correctly, you only need to tap it if you’re already mounted. I’m not in the game right now so I can’t test. I hope I am remembering correctly. If that isn’t the problem then I am not sure what it could be because I access it all the time. It was one of the many useful QoL changes introduced in the 2.4 update, along with being able to loot corpses in water and the ability to mount/dismount with thrall attached.

While mounted, point your reticle at the horse and tap the interact key. On PC, this works consistently.

Dont think its possible on console. Tried more after reading it worked reliably for PC users. Possibly because our “interact” button is mapped to the same as “command”. You lucky ducks :psyduck:

That’s what I’ve been doing. Maybe it’s because I also have my wolf following and it just keeps telling him to move. When I get on today, I’ll try it without my wolf following. If that’s the case, is there a way to change the hotkey for follower commands?

Yes you can remap your hotkeys. I (long ago) changed my follower command key so that it wasn’t the same as the ‘interact’ key. Having those two keys as the same button is poor design IMO, but that’s another topic.

I use:

E = Interact
R = Block
T = Command (follower)
U = Emote

  • EDIT: 5th mouse button is setup to dodge

This may not work for everyone but after a very short learning curve, I find it WAY better than the default setup.

Yup, that helped a lot! Still a bit touchy trying to interact with mount, but can usually get it with just a couple tries. Much better.
