Bug Description:
So yeah, controller use inside inventory has become abysmal, in a number of ways. In speaking about these, I’ll be referring to a standard Xbox controller’s unmodified layout.
1) Cursor now moves with the up/left shift when moving an item across.
Not normally that big a deal, but it’s foundational to problem #2.
Let’s say I want to put away all these Aloe Extracts, just because.
The way it used to work is, put away the left-most one, the entire inventory shifts up/left, and the next one falls under the cursor. So we could just press [RT], [RT], [RT] and they’re all in.
Now instead the cursor moves with the up/left shift. Simple solution, right? Just learn to deal with it, and select the last one you want in the box and go backwards.
Well sure, but then there’s problem #2…2) Cursor resets to a {nothing} space after moving an item to the next window while in the up/left-most position.
Now I’ll move an item from Inventory the up/left-most spot to a Bench with [RT], just as before (I use a Bench as the example, but this happens with with Chests and Enemy Inventory just the same)
The item moves as expected, and the inventory slides as expected, but then the cursor appears to reset to highlighting the next object to the left, however it has actually just reset to a {nothing} space, as can be seen in the Description box.
At this point, all the actions are greyed out, no action key responds. What must be done is to move the cursor right then back left to make recenter on the object in that first spot.
And then it can finally be interacted with again. Rinse and repeat the [RT], [Right], [Left] sequence for every first item you want to move, when previously just repeating [RT] did the job.3) Can no longer custom-split stacks.
A Quality-Of-Life downgrade for every control method.
I wanna make 5 Heavy armors, I have 92 Heavy Padding in a chest. I don’t wanna take it all out of the chest, use it, then remember to put it all back afterwards, I just want to take the correct amount and use it up. Before I could do that with a simple [A] button, [A] again in the next window, select the amount I want, and [A] to confirm. That’s QOL.
Now, I need to split the stack some number of times until the split quantity matches or is lower than what I want (in this case, 5 times)…
…move the cursor…
…move it back…
…do some quick match to decide how much I still need, then split the stack again until it matches or is lower (6 times now)…
…rinse and repeat the move…
…and finally acquire each stack I made, assuming I mathed it correctly before.
(oh, but it has to be done in backwards order because of problem #1, or keep moving the cursor like problem #2)4) Moving an item from Bench onto an item in Inventory causes the items to swap places, instead of adding it to Inventory.
…and vice-versa for Chests / Enemy Inventory instead of Bench, and for the opposite direction move. No screenshots needed; there’s no mistaking what this means. To put something into your Inventory, or into a long-windowed Chest or Bench, you now need to pick up the item with [A] button, move to the opposite window, scroll to the bottom of that window to find an empty space before finally placing it down again with the [A] button.
Maybe not that big a deal if you carry around practically nothing, but for the Beast of Burden that likes to be prepared for any situation, there’s likely a long list of arrows, helms, potions and tools that need to be scrolled past every time the player wants to [A]-move something.
Probably slightly less of a problem for folks that use “Not Sorted” mode for their Inventory / Bench / Chest menus, but what kind of uncouth monsters are they?! LOL, I jest of course. (I do not.)NOTE, I know this is also a concern for M/K users, but this is being written from a controller user perspective.
Guys… please… throw us a bone, huh?
