Depends one what server you are on. All followers have their damaged halved by default unless the server owner changes the setting.

Are pets useful? Some more than others. Though in their sad current state, they’re more useful as base decorations than for combat

yea i was afraid to hear that

At least they could let us pet them !

Larger versions of wolves and felines with good training at level 20 will hold up against world bosses , but of course a human companion in good armor will last longer.

The large wolf has about 7k HP ( compared to the 4-5k HP of the Cimmerian berseker) and dmg is not bad either , but it has poor defense so it is more suited for hunting or smaller encounters

by the way with a white wolf on my team I probably had my fastest Thunderfoot kill

hmm sound interresting

“Is pets usefull”? Only if they have enough hit points to keep what ever is attacking occupied while you get away

Here’s some info to chew on:

From 11/08/22 Age of Sorcery Chapter 2 Devstream Recap:

We’re at about the 1.5 year mark since this happened. I forget exactly when but there was an increase to a few things but nothing substantial enough for it to have been beneficial. Other than horses… if you could classify them as pets?

“They are intentionally weaker than thralls to reflect the ease of picking them up and taming them vs thralls.”

In that same update you could purchase high tier fighters with Obulous that has since been removed.

But now thralls can be broken in an hour or less. Even if they come out weak you can reroll their attributes with potions too.

So while I can appreciate a want to even it out it’s now become almost a non-issue and tipped the scales. Also can be critically touted as Doll House EasyMode afaiac.

There’s very little RNG with baby spawns. There’s either guaranteed for a decent portion of the heavy hitters and for everything else you just kill and wait for the respawn in about 15 minutes.

The added issue is the RNG with making greaters. Never a guarantee you’ll get one…

Heard that the purchased pets you can get through the Sacred Hunt are decent though. I haven’t tested them myself.

Until recently, the Jaguar and the White Wolf were the strongest pets. The jaguar was 3-4 times stronger than the other cats, due to a mistake, as explained here.
I don’t know if the error has been fixed now.
I personally also like the Frost Giant pet.
The rest are not worth attention, IMHO.

The greater rocknose pet, is really a lot of fun.

He’s not super strong or particularly tough.

But on weaker enemies it is hilarious to watch him knock them around.

IMO this pet should be able to tank, maybe someday. (sigh)

well the re-roll potions work on animals too , but good luck applying them to big cats

Yeah, watching him fight is kind of fun.

I must respectfully disagree with their point of view regarding the ‘ease’ of obtaining Pets compared to to Thralls. It is an argument which does not take all factors under consideration. Sure it may be easier to grab say a baby shaleback or crocodile than a T4 thrall and tame it, BUT I would also point out the following. Venturing north and grabbing say a baby wolf, tiger, bear, elephant, etc, then farming Shadebloom, then fighting the RNG mechanic, is both more challenging* and time consuming than merely obtaining a T4 thrall. There are guaranteed T4 spawns in the River biome. I go into more in depth detail below. And I would politely say to Funcom that they are wrong on this one.

I agree.

I felt we were on the sam page here @Kikigirl. Now I am just holding out hope that Funcom will come to see the merits in this argument too.

although I agree with you , I think it’s fair to point out that shadebloom is now part of the drop in purges even at low levels
so it’s a bit easier to get them now, but it’s still a lot easier to knock a t4 thrall by the river than it is to survive a t1 purge.

Absolutely, and happy to acknowledge the point @Keldy. It is a decision I am not sure I like. Shadebloom gave us a reason to run the Midnight Grove dungeon, much in the same way that Khari Steel gives us a reason to run the Winecellar dungeon.

When we read the lore surrounding Shadebloom and its origins, it seems illogical that Stygian purge soldiers would be in posession of these flora. And it makes even less sense that the low level, frontline grunts at the Al Merayah fortress would be in posession of them .

The Stygian fortress is built directly on top of a Jhebbal Sag worship area. Maybe there was a huge stockpile of shade bloom in the cave before the Stygian army ransacked it

Nice. If it’s got to be a thing, at least that’s an explanation I can make sense of

The Stygian conscripts probably keep it thinking they can smoke it like some lotus.
They know they’re boned. Put them in the wheel, they all are wearing bracelets. There is no going home for them. They die here, certainly a deserter or two has bitten the dust trying the green wall, and they know it. So now they look for any flowers to snort.

Little do they know that having taken this flower from one of the Lord of the Hunt’s places, they have made themselves favoured prey.

Or maybe Jhebbal Sag cultist have been slipping the blooms into the Khemite’s packs, the same way you give an invader seeds for their pouches. So when they die, their blood will nourish pretty flowers in the land they are now defiling.

This is a thing this one can, with surprisingly little torture, make that make sense.
In this regard, perhaps that is even deliberate on the part of those putting their loot table together. This one does not know, but having that item in particular as a drop from the Stygians squatting at Al Merayah could be a very nice touch of deliberation.

That it’s only at that location is something of a nice touch and feeds into the narrative about Jhebbal Sag taking a more active notice or at least one of his champions being in the basement of a tower there.
