Is Tamarin's Tigers set viable for a Dark Templar off-tank?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently playing as a Dark Templar in an off-tank role, and I’m looking to optimize my gear. I have a specific question about the viability of using the Tamarin’s Tigers set as my primary setup.

We know that the DT generates aggro mainly through DPS, and in my case, I believe that focusing on Critical Rating could be key. The logic is that more crits mean I can trigger Void of Madness more often, which increases both my DPS and survivability during combat. Consequently, this should lead to higher and more consistent threat generation.

Currently, my gear is a mix of T4 and T3, along with a legendary ring, prioritizing pieces with Critical Rating and some hate increase to complement my build. However, I’m considering transitioning to the full Tamarin’s Tigers set because it offers a lot of Critical Rating, critigation damage, and other damage-oriented bonuses, which seem to align well with how the DT generates threat.

On the other hand, sets like Last Legion have less focus on critical damage but provide more strength and better defensive stats. This makes me wonder if the trade-off between damage and survivability is worth it, especially in an off-tank role.

My questions are:

Do you think this set is viable for a DT in an off-tank role?
Can this focus on Critical Rating, critigation damage, and overall DPS compensate for the lack of mitigation compared to more defensive sets like Last Legion or T3 Soldier armor (conan's castle)?
Has anyone played a DT in this role and can share their experience or suggestions on whether I should stick to a mixed set with some defensive pieces instead?

My goal is to be a dynamic off-tank, capable of handling aggro swaps with the main tank, contributing solid DPS to the group, and stepping in as needed.

In my opinion, hate increase and basing on pure tank builds are better suited for 100% tank classes like Guardians. A DT is a different world entirely, offering flexibility in how to generate aggro or deal damage. For me, pure tanking can feel more monotonous, while a DT allows you to create a fully functional and useful off-tank build that is also more engaging.

(in that case i would be getting T5 and T6 sets in the future while doing a good role in raids for Tx gear or dungeons for x items)

Any advice, experiences, or constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

What pieces of t4 do you have? The fearless set is quite awesome. You are overall correct with what you write about crit-rating on dt.

What you want to aim for in terms of stable survivability tanking dungeons is around 55% physical mitigation. I cant imagine a full tigers set getting you anywhere close to that. But since your goal is to be an offtank it might work out in most dungeons. In some dungeons you would want to get some protection to be of use even as a offtank. But if you have full AA chromatic warding and some prot weapons, rings, neck, cloak that should be okay.

Short version, yes critical chance is dts best friends for dmg, survival and aggro. But going for full tigers will still make you squishy since you loose alot of physical mitigation. Tigers if im not mistaken has raw combat rating instead of strenth on many pieces. Strenth that would otherwise add to your physical mitigation.

im on this build, using tali, (tali build is 100% new, just few days with it i always use shield with dread shadow, just testing) but while using shield my mitigation is around 51-54% depend on buffs or potions etc.

that is one of my actual best items on my gear, and ofc im going for kuth sword and maybe shield if i change to shield build. so in your opinion, what is the set or mix i should be going next?

im all ears m8
