If there is, I haven’t found it. The only method I know is drag & drop. I have a very bad habit of not moving my mouse fully into the appropriate square, which results in dropping an item. I have an even worse habit of not realize the mistake that I just made (so many important items recrafted…) I would like to highlight an inventory item and press a keyboard combination such as CTRL-1, etc to assign the item to a hotbar slot. Is there currently any way to do this?
You can left shift and click or double click an item to get it to move to and from the hot bar.

Thank you. I had discovered the double-click but not left shift. I realize that I worded my question very poorly. Those assign an item to the next blank hotbar slot. I meant to ask if there was a keyboard command that behaves in the same way as the drag & drop, i.e. using the assignment will force the item into that hotbar slot regardless of if it is already occupied by another item or craft.
