I was wondering how difficult it would be to program each of the various dlc instruments with part of a melody. Then by having a performer interact with each one you can get the full piece of music. Future updates could add more instruments or allow the player to select from several pieces of mood music to suit your game/mood/rp.
Uuuuu, a darfari metal band!
Drums already exist (probably from human skin, and the drumstick would be their skulls on sticks).
Tendon guitars!
Tooth keyboard/xylophone.
Optional bagpipes from stomach!
Femur-flutes!
Skullwhistle!
Place wind chimneys for the heck of it! Because they sometimes sound creepy when it’s quiet around.
Good idea for sure.
To much to ask, nah
To expect however is a different story .
No I am kidding keep asking, maybe what you’ll get will not be what (exactly) you asked for, but surely you’ll get something .
The presence of @Umborls here makes things more… Optimistic .
Sea of Thieves has this implemented and it was done long ago in Lord of the Rings Online. I also have implemented this very system in another game.
How difficult? It is like any other system in the game. Its not trivial, but its not rocket science either. You can select a song and play it. It would then run a play animation and play the song based on the instrument you are holding (how my studio did it was we had the full track split into its individual pieces and then you just played that piece).
Others could simply emote to play along with their instrument and it would add that track.
Players with the same instrument would animate but not double up on the tracks.
It a great idea an would certainly make me alot more interested in picking up more than just 1 or 2 entertainers, i’d probably actually start building more themed buildings with this sort of thing.
I think the first game i played with something similar was Star Wars Galaxies where one of the player jobs was a Entertainer and you buffed players before they went to do combat and healed them of ailments when they came back, you could solo or group up to do it and was probably one of the best social experiences i’ve ever had in a game.
Maybe adding a Instrument to there inventory or giving Instruments a Thrall space, who knows but i like the idea
The same system as LOTRO would be perfect.
In a game with this potential of roleplay free playing music instrument to organise event, etc…I think it would be a great new feature.
