I will be “irritated” without being able to purchase content at reasonable prices. I know, I know, I want everything. Shame shame. How selfish of me for wanting to spend money to support a game, at reasonable prices. That’s me and my wife. Going months or years without a fancy digital table because Funcom wants to charge ridiculous prices… Just makes me not want to spend money on the Battle Pass in the first place.
Choices Choices.
I should just save my money for when Funcom launches Dune in a couple years. I am sure their Bazaar will be twice as unaffordable.
underpriced? are you crazy?
a Full game like Elden ring costs around $ 49 ~ $ 59
all past DLCs were just Skins, i must admit that they were well done, but they are still skins not a full game, qwith a full system and etc.
But did you just toss that stuff in the trash. Or did you sell it and earn something back on it?
If you toss it in the trash, that’s on you, really.
I’ve still got my original PS2 and an entire box full of PS2 games. Might never play them again. But they also won’t sell for much and I’m not throwing them away after purchasing them.
Most if not all of the DLCs were released before Tencent bought Funcom. It is obvious that this whole marketing scheme is Tencents idea, and the pricing. And again, I vote with my wallet, so I will not be paying for these items, I am just saying the FOMO rage is idiotic.
Your missing the point. Hobbies are a waste of money. A SIGNIFICANT waste of money…and it’s really any hobby. My wife has lots of them. I have gaming which is the cheapest of my hobbies. Has anyone priced out ammo for my shooting hobby? YIKES! is all I got to say. More to actual bring up the #'s. I spend $6 on skins for my digital weapons that I can use in a game I play too often…hours and hours per week…I spend $25 on a box of 50 9mm rounds that i can clear at the range within a 30 minute visit…not to mention the range fee.
I understand that we won’t get back to the prices where you could get a whole set of themed building pieces, placeables, armor/weapons and emotes for $10. And I am okay with that, because I would love to support my favorite game. But with these prices I feel like my favorite game tries to rob me.
I truly believe that Sandstone Set 1 + Sandstone Set 2 combined should not cost me more than 10$ in total. If $10 equals 1200 CC then one Sandstone Set should cost 600 CC. At max. And a single candelabra should not cost 250 CC. Even with its current prices, how come a single candelabra costs 1/4 from a set of building pieces? The value is incomparable.
Funcom should reconsider prices, both in terms of how the prices of the items relate to each other and their in-game value, and in terms of their equivalence to real money.
I specifically bought the DLC because I wanted to support the game. Then I got the kids and wife involved because I wanted to support the game. I bought 5 copies of Siptah to support the devs even though we only visit that server once in a blue moon. This was all done because the asking costs were quite reasonable for what they were offering. Is my base in the Turanian style? Yes, but I would’ve been quite content at Reinforced Brick or Black Ice.
You likely know what FFXIV is given the screen name.
Would you be more likely, less likely, or of unchanged mind with regard to buying Crom Coins if they were offered like Square Enix sells its Crysta (player-chosen amounts, increments of 100 units, $5 minimum buy)?
Okay, that’s fair. Now, what if – in order to get on the range and shoot those rounds – you had to buy a fixed number of a specific currency that ended up costing you more than the bullets and the use of the range.
You know, the whole reason you’re there?
Sure, you can spend this currency on Something Else™ in this hypothetical range’s gift shop, but that would really all depend on what would be on offer if it were attractive. That just doesn’t seem like a trustworthy business approach to me.
Seems to me that I’d pay the range fee, buy my bullets, and if there’s Something Else™ in the gift shop I want, maybe pay a little extra on top and get that too.
But personally, I’ve never appreciated having to buy an item and paying more than the advertised sticker price to get it. That’s what’s going on here, at least with the battlepass. It’s almost as if Funcom doesn’t WANT me buying that kickstart for 3k.
Please tell that to those that suffer from FOMO, and they will realize it instantly
Fear of missing out on things is a real issue for some people, companies knows this and use this tactic to lure people into spending money on something that they may not need and regret later.
It’s sort of like when you stand in a shop looking at something you like and notice there are only a few left, but currently you can’t really afford it unless you postpone something that you actually need, it can for some become a real dilemma.
This was an example of physical items which often is a limited stock and may never return again for good reasons, however here we are talking about virtual stuff, which can be sold in a few copies or millions without any further production cost, it has already been made so it only needs to be available in their shop, and that is where it in my opinion becomes a deliberate tactic to (mis)use the weakness of certain people.
I know that for a gaming business it is mostly about how much money they can make, nothing wrong with that, but reputation also matters in the long run, and this may backfire like some other games/companies have experienced in the past
The same. SE has BS prices on it’s Mogstation stuff.
They have millions and millions of players. Yet they sell mounts and stuff for 30 or 40 bucks apiece.
SE has even more of a reason that it’s prices on the Mogstation should be lowered. Most I know never buy the full price stuff, they buy stuff when it’s on sale at a discount.
But when SE adds an expansion, they add a lot of content with it.
A lot of the Mogstation stuff starts out free as Event items. And if you miss the event, you can pay to get the item on a character.
But even if we could buy Crom Coins the way Crysta is purchased, I would be against it, because the asking price for stuff they are delivering is outrageous.
To put a building comparison.
XIV has tons of building options in the game. And only a limited number of items for it on the Mogstation.
CE already has limited building options, because we only have a couple building materials that work in either cold or hot climates.
And moving forward, the majority of building stuff is going to come from the Bazaar. That is our DLC now. We might get the odd one once or twice a year from an update. But I doubt it. It will be Bazaar in order to capitalize on milking the whales.
The Battle Pass is meant to be a *oh hey look over here, it’s some free armor types and stuff we added" diversion.
Don’t waste your time on the battle pass. It’s incredibly grindy and the loot is not anywhere near worth the grind and the price. Sorry I wasted my money.
Ehhh, it’s not that bad. $10 for 60 sections worth of cosmetics and items, plus enough Crom Coins for each subsequent Battle Pass.
So, theoretically, it’s a one-time purchase and you can then milk every following Battle Pass indefinitely. Or until Funcom decides to force payment of $10/pass (in which case boycott)
Everything they have on the B-Shop is underwhelming. Like, “I’m not sure I want this even for free” type of underwhelming.
Sandstone set? Cool, looks great, Dennis said he liked it a lot, and looking at the pics, I do too. Would I pay anything over a dollar for that? No, of course not, you only deal with sandstone in this game (especially after the last patches) for several hours. Why would you pay for a different sandstone look?
Bookcase? There are tons of (free) mods that do it… well, let’s say the same.
Emotes? Really?
Maybe the armor, the trailer helps, only that you don’t really know what you’re buying: a skin? a recipe?
Bottom line is this: (eventually) just get the battlepass to support the devs, let the overlords play with pics and prices.
The 1st Battle Pass item is an armor, seems like a recipe. I assume any armor/weapons you get on the Bazaar are craftable items. Sort of skins, but they should also have their own stats. Just comparable for the level you can craft them.
I got the battlepass, that first one is a recipe not a skin. Meaning it’s an actual armor with stats you can craft. Skins would be (infinite, although this is not a given) illusions I guess: armor you can assign stats to.
This is that moment in time where I turn from a strong supporter of their dlc packs to not giving them another cent. This kind of pricing really ■■■■■■ me off and sadly is exactly what I expected they’d do. Less for more. No.
I admit I laughed out loud when I realized they were actually sale prices being shown. The goal of FunCom should be to get items into the hands of as many players has possible, to do this they need to make the prices reasonable. However, these prices reek of Chinese greed.
Over priced like they got a good game like Fortnite or something, they can’t even roll out an update properly , the dlc are way better than anything other than the animal skins . And they want people to pay more than dlc pricing? Lmao this company kills me
