Lost all items while being offline

I’m still relatively new to this game though o have played survival/building games in the past and have never come across a glitch/bug like this.

I was in my base and updated my spawn point on my bedroll, couldn’t actually lay down on it and everything was calm before logging off. I logged back on the next day and all of my inventory was lost and I was still stood in the same position as when I logged off.

There has also been a bug where me and my friend have lost multiple animal followers in our base when logging off too and even during playing.

I had relatively high level items such as daggers, pick axes etc and it seems a shame that I lost them due to no fault of my own. I have checked the event log and it doesn’t say that I died, only that my loot bag full of items has decayed and that the items were lost.

Hopefully there is a fix to this or a way to get my items back without spending a long time trying to them, possibly for the same thing to happen again.

This was on PS4 on an official PvE server.

Hello!

Never log off with items, dump them all in a container before logging off. The game in general is rife with bugs but especially pronounced on PS and when you’re on an Official server you are subject to the antics of other players.

Because you died while unconscious you spawned back to your spawn point and your loot bug decayed. Some other player, was on render area and something(a mob) that was toxic poisonous may killed you, or in times the shelter doesn’t work and sandstorm may kill you while unconscious. Ofcurce it’s a bug - server failure, you name it, but it can happen.
Try to act as @Kikigirl suggested, especially when your base is not big enough, or you live in places that temperature effects or sandstorm may kill you.
From my experience in this game, the most smooth environment is south jungle, almost no bug can kill you there while offline.
