I have a bad sense of direction, so I use the map each time I venture a bit far from the base.
I also use it to find my lost thralls or to meet with my clan member.
It would be nice if you could your own layers or just disable types of markers.
What I would love to see is a map you can put markers and text on and draw it on a papyrus scroll and duplicate and share it with other players as an inventory item…
Aaaa… it’s only your map thou
Like you seemed to have made a point out of marking every discoverable knowledge teacher on the map and yes your server has a lot of altars…
The standard map with all the POIs thou looks absolutely fine doesn’t seem overly cluttered to me, if anything it shows that you explored a bit.
But yes with all the stuff you have on your map, it does seem a bit too much so maybe try removing some of those personal markers.
However I do think altars should be able to be toggled or something as they’re player-made structures and why would you even remotely care about them on a PvE server for example? Like… the neighbor built an altar… good for him… must have really nice sermons…
How can I say this without being rude Aerosmith has a nice song for it
This would be ideal actually. I get that they mark where large bases are often times (unless it’s mine, which has none lol), but they do get a bit busy on the map.
Also would be nice to only show custom markers or hide custom markers.
It’s true that I use a lot of markers (I reached the maximum number of markers and cannot add more). I marked the spots I am likely to return to the most, and without them, it would actually be really hard to enjoy playing this game, as I would spend most of the time lost on the map. So even if I use the marker tool to its maxized usefulness, I don’t think it should be considered “normal” to have an overflown map when the markers combine with the peripheral information of the map. An other way to put it: I don’t think I have to lower my number of makers (which is within the limits allowed by the game), just to make this map readable ; it is of my opinion that the map can be improved in that regard.
Sorry for the broken English.
PS: I wrote that answer knowing you do not mean for me to lower my markers, you are just pointing at a fact - I have a lot of markers.
I’m still of the opinion the map should go as a UI element and be replaced instead by maps you look at on tables, walls, or an item you can look at. But without markers of any sort except for those you make yourself.
Whereas you figure out how to navigate with the maps by landmarks.
I was going to do this for IoM but the only reason I added map markers is because the game is currently designed that way. I would prefer a hold up map as well or some more immersive system than an auto populating map.
I agree but when we are at it what about also disabling that first discovery RED location pop up on middle of screen? Let me disable that - its annoying especially when you know that locations from other servers.
I think having a toggle option for each major type of location is a great idea. (Human Settlements, Caves, Altars, Religion Trainers, Obelisks, Merchants, Dungeons, Bed and Bedroll icons, etc., and your own Points of Interest – could all be separately toggled on and off, allowing you to clean up your map depending on the needs of the moment.)
I also think that having a special Clan/Guild marker – that everyone in your Clan gets to see on their own map – would be a great addition as well. It would allow Clan leaders to mark certain destination points for a mission. Or to mark a hidden base for members to be able to find.
I personally don’t have problems woth POIs marked automatically on the map, but the shrines…why?
But my biggest problem is that this is (was, because now not really…) a survival game, and you start with a complete, fully drawn map right from the cross. It shoud be drawn as you discover areas where you go.
i pop the map to look where im going. for like my body or to retriver my thralls. sometimes if i learn theres a area to farm things i’ll mark it and then i know but thats about it. also give us a irl game clock lol
