Meteor showers in single player need to be reworked. You sit there and wait for god knows how long for one to fall and if one doesn’t fall in render range than you’re just out of luck. This is simply unacceptable. I’ve had this happen to me too many times now. Please freaking fix this!
@Xevyr has a mod for that.
Well if someone has a mod for it then there’s no excuse for Funcom not to fix it. If someone else can do it then surely they can too.
When Funcom ‘does it’ it affects the other modes of play. Which is part of the reason why they haven’t done this.
What you can do yourself without using a mod is playing on a dedicated server on your own local machine. This is actually how I play all survival games that I don’t play with other people. They all have some issue with singleplayer since the game has to operate as both server and client. So instead I just play as a dedicated server as one.
This one would love to see an admin panel toggle for the frequency for which meteor showers are checked.
That still really wouldn’t help the OP’s issue or any other singleplayer issue with meteor drops. The issue they have is the areas aren’t active during the checks. So they would have to set it really low (in the 5-10 minute range to not be annoying). But if its going to be that frequent, why not simply spawn in the star metal?
Frequency would help with servers with heavy traffic. Though only on fresh wipes since star metal isn’t exactly one of those resources you constantly need to replace.
What Funcom needs to do is some sort of system that detects when singleplayer is running (this is doable I believe) and then simulate a meteor drop to simply spawn them when the areas are loaded in. I think the only reason this hasn’t been done yet is its low priority.
In the meantime a faux dedicated server is the best solution. Which solves the meteor issue and the other timer related ones singleplayers face on a daily basis. Not to mention much superior coop experiences if you should ever want to invite a friend for something.
I really don’t get why CE doesn’t have some sort of persistence outside render range in single player. Ark does and it’s older than CE. As for a dedicated server I don’t know how that’s done.
Its to lower the RAM and CPU usage. You’re effectively doubling (slightly less, or slightly more depending on the situation) it otherwise.
As for running a dedicated server there’s software you can get. The simplest way is through Steam, its a free download (I believe even if you don’t have CE on Steam). You just need to change your steam library filters to show Tools. And you’ll see Conan Exiles Dedicated Server. Basically run that and if you’re running it on the same PC as Conan, you can direct connect to 127.0.0.1, if its another PC on your home network you’ll need to get that PC’s IP.
If you want others to be able to connect, then you’ll need to port forward and all that stuff.
If you want to play your singleplayer game in the dedicated server you will need to copy the database (game.db for Exiled Lands, DLC_siptah.db for Siptah) to the dedicated server folder’s Saved folder.
Its a bit of effort, but its something I do for many survival games when I play singleplayer on the regular. I will say this, Conan Exiles is quite a bit easier to setup than say Empyrion, and about as easy as Space/Medieval Engineers.
If you’re doing this for just meteors, then I highly recommend just using Xevyr’s mod: Steam Workshop::Reliable Meteor Showers
But if you’re looking for thrall/pet conversion or crafting times to run when you’re not in game or other time related stuff (growing things, hatching things, etc), or if you just want the coop option that doesn’t suck to be available whenever then dedicated is the way to go.
If you end up with 2-3 friends playing with you on the regular, then renting a server might be an option as well, budgets withstanding of course.
Or even just a button to trigger MS in admin panel because not all the players are familiar with console commands (even if there is one for MS).
or you could just admin spawn starmetals bars yourself or the ores and just pretend you harvest it Also if your on pc , pippi is a good mod to have for meteor shower activation.
No! Looking for Star Metal nodes and blowing them up is a lot of fun. Especially when they smoke. I prefer “admin-spawn” nodes
Remember when meteor shows weren’t tied to someone being in the area or SP render distance? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
I still don’t understand why they ever changed it. I can only assume it had something to with their server code optimizations.
The way I think it works is when you enter the area around the mounds, in about 30 minutes you’ll have a 75% chance that there will be a meteor shower. Completely leaving the area and returning should “reset” things and start the process over. I’ve gone to the mounds, had a meteor shower, then entered the volcano, returned to the Mounds and another 30 minutes or so later, there was another meteor shower.
That said, if you have some bad luck and consistently fail that 75% check a few times in a row, it can be incredibly annoying. And once you’ve had a meteor shower, if you stay in the area, the chance of another one is extremely low (something like 2%).
In singleplayer, you can just be in the area around the mounds and it might trigger. I had it fall every 15min for a few times, but not on steam.
I play Single-Player with vanilla settings, and for some reason I’ve never had any problems with triggering meteor showers on either map.
Yes, it takes some time, but on both maps, there’s plenty of stuff to do in the region. I don’t usually go there for the sole reason of getting star metal, but I do keep some explosive arrows with me when I go there, and if a meteor shower hits, I harvest what I get.
On Single-Player one doesn’t even need tons of star metal.
Depends. If they add a console command that forces a meteor shower for admins then it certainly does not affect other modes of play.
But I highly expect Funcom to not be able to implement this bugfree and test it thouroughly.
datacmd meteor spawn
For anyone on pc, its a FC command ready and waiting for admins. I do wish it had a big button so console users could trigger it.
