Let’s try to keep this one clean please!
If you have controversial discussions about the use of minimaps or Conan features in general, then feel free to start a new thread about it and tag me in it if you want, don’t hijack this one. Thank you!
Long story short, there seemed to be a bit of a gap on the workshop when it came to standalone minimap mods so I set out to make one myself
Presenting:
Here are the features:
works fine when playing with controllers
it can display POI markers from further away and pin it to the edge to help you navigate… (adjustable range in settings)
can change mode to rotate the minimap instead of the player to act more like a compass (north marker will appear)
has mouse support (while holding F1 it gives you control of your mouse in normal play mode)
you can use the zoom buttons with the mouse or hover over icons to see the name of the landmark
5 zoom levels (zoom gets saved across sessions)
you can move minimap anywhere on the screen by grabbing the player icon in the center and dragging
you can hide the minimap completely by clicking a hidden button in the very top right of the screen (this way if it’s installed on a server, players can pick whether they want a minimap or not, or pick which one to use in case it’s installed with other popular UI mods that also have a minimap)
permanent “home” location pointing to your bed from anywhere, as well as a bedroll marker
allows you to track guild members similarly pinned to the edge of the minimap if they’re out of range regardless of distance
guild tracking can be turned off in settings, or globally disabled for everyone by admins. (RP hide-and-seek for example)
clock at the bottom can be set to display Server / Client / Game time (if you hover will still show you your local time as a tooltip)
native support for EL, Siptah and Savage Wilds with markers and everything
works on other custom maps too, however functionality is limited and won’t show markers (limitation of the devkit as marker definitions need to be present in the mod)
adjustable UI scale
several color options for the minimap border elements
blatantly shoves the journey panel down so you can use the corner of the screen without them overlaping
Here’s a short demo video (the toggle feature isn’t shown as it was added afterwards)
My biggest complaint about this is how fast some players and admins on the server I help manage decided to start begging for this.
In all honesty it looks well done. And I particularly like the feature of being able to move the map where you want it (most only do preset locations that you can select in a list), and the time is able to show server time.
Just a quick question, what’s the chances of some of you UI mods getting rolled up into one? Particularly this minimap, damage parser, and showing stats in recipe?
I don’t think they will at least not based on my current approach
Currently I don’t really see the reason for it, in fact I find it a bit counter-productive, which is why I try to make stuff separate, even very very tiny things like that inventory compactor button which is a 68 kb mod.
The idea is that not every person who wants a minimap, might also want a damage parser and vice-versa. I know from experience that I personally chose not to use certain very awesome mods simply because the features I’d like are bundled with features that I do not want on my server.
This way they’re all modular and people can pick whichever combination they want.
If the concern is that “more mods bring more trouble”, it’s not really the case… especially when we’re talking about the same author.
Conan can function perfectly fine even with hundreds of tiny mods provided they’re all well made and compatible. So in that context multiple mods from the same author that are compatible wouldn’t really change much, on the other hand, this way if I update one, potential mod mismatch errors don’t affect servers which use my other mods but not that one.
(In fact the opposite is actually true and in the case of very large mods - over 1GB for example - the game is much much faster at loading the same mod split into multiple packages, than loading the single large mod.)
That was pretty much the points I thought of when making them like this, ofc if you can think of any other reason I didn’t think of, I’m open to change my mind I guess “convenience” on the first install would be the only counter-point I could think of, but we have Steam collections for that I guess!.. Hmm… I could make a UI mods collection if that helps or even you can make one and post it here
I kinda figured you were taking that approach and its a good one, from one mod author to another. But from a server admin, we like easy logistics lol. Just being honest.
