Missing thralls after they return automatically from scouting

My fighter thrall was missing for 2 days and the map showed it in my base where I told it to guard after it automatically returned from scouting after I died while it was following me. I waited because I did not want to rescue it and lose the gear I had on it. I then had the idea to destroy the foundation where it was standing and found it under the foundation. I was able to find my missing thrall, but this bug seems like it shouldn’t be a thing. Here’s a video of the hide and seek:

Steps on how to reproduce issue:

  1. Die while having a thrall following you
  2. Assume it will return to its assigned guard spot automatically
  3. Track it on the map
  4. Destroy the foundation under which it was standing to find it playing hide and seek
