My game crashes somewhat often. Sometimes multiple times in a session, but sometimes not at all. Which makes it very difficult to figure out which mod is causing the crashes, since I can remove one and get no crash, but still not know if that was the cause. Here’s my modlist:
I know a few of them have not been updated in a year or more, so I’m assuming it’s one of them. Does anyone know a way I can find out for sure which is causing it?
I’d hate to lose Auto Lights Off and Just No Rain Only, and I’d REALLY hate top lose Mute the Accountant (cause that dude is insanely annoying)
That’s a very short list and I don’t think anyone of them in particular would crash your game. (the accountant one is mine btw and that one shouldn’t be causing any issues)
Perhaps you could post your log here after a crash.
Right-click the game in Steam: Manage → Browse local files
Then go to ConanSandbox\Saved\Logs and upload the ConanSandbox.log file here after a crash and before you restart the game. Might have a clue, but no guarantee as it often doesn’t.
Probably not the cause of those crashes, but try moving LBPR to the bottom. I don’t have any base game asset edits in Nat’s Trees, but the mod adds placeables so should be probably above LBPR.
Thank you, I’ll try that next crash. I’m not very computer literate, but I’ll give it my best shot.
And thank you very much for that mod. I’ll never understand why Funcom made the accountant so obnoxious. Maybe they wanted to make us hate being in our base so we’d go out in the world.
I think you’re simply running out of RAM. Do you really have only 8GB on that PC? That’s what Conan detects in your log.
If not you must have a failing memory stick.
8GB might be minimum spec, but that’s without any mods (they all use some extra memory) and the release version of the game, the game got a lot heavier with features over the years. You will also need to play with low settings (especially textures) with so little RAM. And only singleplayer, if someone joined your game the RAM situation would get even worse.
Another potential solution is if you have another spare PC, you can run a dedicated server on that, then your client (current) PC will need less RAM to play the game. Most mods also work better on dedicated servers.
Absolutely not.
BP is an abbreviation of Blueprint… which is unreal engines visual programming language, so that doesn’t tell you anything whatsoever since the entire game is using that.
The code execution stops as it’s trying to pick a sound effect for walking based on the appearance and customization of an NPC.
So if we wanted to point fingers at mods, the only likely candidate there would be IQoL. But since the crash still happens in the basegame code and generally people are using this mod without much issues, the chances of it directly being caused by the mod are pretty slim, but more like some combination of system instability (other performance issues pointed out by biglouis above), the way the mod is potentially being used (heavy customizations etc)
So you guys think that’s the problem? I checked, and it says I have 8gb of installed RAM. My computer is a few years old. I don’t know anything about computers, but my nephew does. I’ll ask him to help me if there’s a way to increase my RAM.
You should be able to get a full 32GB out of your board. You can ask your part dealer about it. Along the way, be sure to make note of any new serial numbers inside the case. I did those tests above and it didn’t finish, but there are no errors. Linux disagrees. (some peek and pokes and it works)
It could be, but it’s hard to diagnose these things.
Unlike @Xevyr, I’m not a modder, so I can’t figure out which of the messages in the log are a cause for concern and which are just the result of spaghetti blueprint coding that is ubiquitous when working with a visual PL.
However, I did manage to find 3 other reports of the same issue. Only one of them is mod-related, but it does happen to be about the IQoL mod.
The other two reports are about the issue happening in the base game, without any mods. One was reported by @KorgFoehammer in November of 2023 and has a script stack similar, but not identical to the one in your log. The other was reported in 2020, has the identical script stack in the log, and also occurs on a computer with only 8GB of RAM.
Here are some ideas to try to narrow this down:
Is the game minimized when the crash happens? If it doesn’t, we can discard @KorgFoehammer’s hypothesis.
Can you try playing without the IQoL mod? Make sure to make a backup of your game database, just in case removing the mod causes corruption.
If neither of those helps solve the problem, I would suggest getting more RAM for your machine, or at least running the game on a machine with more RAM to see if that solves the problem before deciding to spend money on more memory.
I’ve already talked with my nephew about increasing RAM. I think that’s something I’d like even if it isn’t causing the crashes. I’d like to play with better graphic settings, and maybe try out some larger mods, like the map mods. Whenever I try using a large mod, I get lag.
If the crashes continue after the RAM upgrade, I’ll try removing IQoL.
If you want to play with better graphic settings, getting more RAM might not be enough. It can help, but you might still end up being constrained by the capabilities of your graphics card.
2 16gb sticks (32gb total) ordered, plus their speed is faster than my old ones (going from 2133mhz to 3600mhz). I don’t know anything, but those numbers look like a nice improvement to me. My nephew’s coming up on Christmas to install them, so we’ll see after that how it goes.
