More Efficient Oil Gathering Method?

Please can we think of a better way of getting oil. I really don’t like filling the fish traps with bait constantly (I know some people like it how it is) but with the state of the game with spells and really cool ways of doing things we have a super grindy way to get oil and I just think its a little too tedious.

This is just my opinion and not that much of a big deal I just don’t like how long it takes haha

A T3+ alchemist in an Alchemist’s Bench can turn 1 Bark and 1 Ichor into 5 Oil.

Alchemist is probably the best way. You can also put seeds in the fluid press, but it takes 15 seeds per.

The other two suggestions are right on. Fish are the least efficient way of getting oil.

Seeds are great in a pinch (you just drown in them with a 16 level scythe (Blackblood, Obsidian, or Eladarium). But the T3 Alchemist is the best way.

T3 Alchemist crafts 5 at a time which I always forget and end up with 5,000 oil :harold:

I have always felt that like all the other basic resources (wood, fiber, coal, rock, bark, etc) oil should be a farmed item from the map. The fact that the most efficient way to get it is to craft it has bothered me for awhile.

Me too, I just did this XD

It’s not like it’s that hard to get a T3 alchemist. I get a little confused these days when I see a fish house.

I have a fish camp for the stat food boosts.

You’re referring to the special fish?

For me it is just for role-playing. I might just use the Alchemist most of the time, but I will always have a bait and fish farm  .

True my friend @Wonka but @helium3 is referring to another age! He is older than me in this game. We use to have a huge spam of fish traps.
A small example is imagine all the water area and the shores of the mount of the dead filled from fish traps from just 2 clans :rofl::rofl:. Then people learned that the great wells could get fish traps and if you went tier 3 you were having about 5 great water wells for fishtraps. The worst? Yoi didn’t even need bait for the fishes, they were generating fishes non stop!
We had at least one improved box for each special fish :person_facepalming:t3:. Of course we didn’t use even the 2% of these fishes, but we wanted to have everything plenty. Back then fishes were not only oil producers but ichor producers too. So we had at least 2 chests with oil and 5 chests with ichor… Why… I don’t know, we were playing this way, the way of plenty for no other reason of plenty!

The new meta of steel is the obolus packs(they are named bearer packs) . In each pack you earn, it has at least 500 seeds too. So seeds now are a really easy way to get oil without even alchemist :man_shrugging:.

Yes.

It’s less fish traps than I had for oil farming, but the compost boxes I need to keep a bait supply make up for it.

Baiting fish traps was a silly change when they made it and I still find it silly.

You don’t want to be fisherman’s friend? :stuck_out_tongue:

During test when the fish traps were made to require bait, I had a massive pile of compost heaps to generate grubs for fishing… each trap had 5 heaps and I had like 30 traps… good times.

As is still the case. The change cut down on the number of fish traps, but they were just replaced by 3-5 times as many compost heaps.

Yeah… except instead of fishtraps, we have poopiles… there must be a better way…

I just think the alchemist method, while not hard, is out of place. Oil lamps, body oil… these things should be achievable thru mundane methods in sufficient quantity. I actually think fine, if fishing needs bait, at least the rates for oil production could be upped a little to take the upward pressure off the heaps for that first set of armor.

My sole reason for having a fishery now is having a use for grubs and handfuls of insects.

The fish goes into a fridge and is forgotten.
