My Crafter Thralls keep Dying

Whenever I log on chances are one of my Crafter Thralls has mysteriously died while I was offline. As per the server log they either died or I killed them. Please note that I have trained them up to level 5 , and given them weapons and heavy armor, setting them to a ‘peaceful’ setting. There is a wall around my base and nothing in the neighborhood but the odd shaleback which does not even make it to the front and only door as I have a number of leveled berzerkers and 5 tigers guarding it. I also have a Thrall pot to feed them.

I am at a loss as to why these Crafters and only the Crafters keep dying.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

many reasons seem to float around: First of all that it is a bug, present since the introduction of the living settlements. They get ported away and get killen by something.

Another reason is that other players start purges near your base

Gas from other players might be a reason too.

in your case I’d say it is that bug.

How do I fix this then? I cannot keep running around after thralls I will lose within a week. There are no purges nearby and no one using gas otherwise they would affect fighter thralls and animals as well.

One thing I have done is I make sure I have more beds, chairs, bench seats, than I do have bench thralls. So far, I have not lost any in quite a while. Also make sure there are good paths in your base. A blocked path can make a thrall get stuck.

There is no “fixing it” on the player side, short of disabling living settlements.
It’s a known bug.
One of the reasons “Living Settlements” is sometimes called Dying Settlements.

There are things you can do to make it less likely to happen. These involve basically making all interactable stations not usable by thralls and then completely walling them in.

The dev is aware.
If they gave a fig they would disable the feature on officials. As they had before.
This one has ideas as to why they have deliberately left this extremely annoying and knowingly flawed system in place as is, but that is neither here nor there.

If you are on a private server or single player, good news. You (or the server admin) can simply disable Living Settlements in the server settings. Problem solved.

It’s not your fault for starters!!!
It’s random and it happens no matter what you’ll do.
People who don’t suffer this bug will not understand and in cases may convince you that you do something wrong…
But you don’t…
It’s simply not your fault!
It’s wrong and it needs fixing. It should be fixed from the first hotfix but it didn’t even in the second.

Your options in my opinion is to play without crafters until the problem is fixed, or create a small house away from your main residence on each of your teleport stones and place nothing else than the bench of the crafter. Not even a campfire, just this bench. Maybe this way your crafters will live a couple days longer because they won’t move away from their bench.

Hot damn! I had no idea about this bug. I’ll turn every placeable off for Thrall interaction.
I really like to see people walking around my base and outposts, but I better wait for a fix before I lose any of them.
Good hunting!
