All thralls being “rescued” from cages dissappearing from base when offline, After a couple real life days. Iv now lost 4 named thralls that i rescued from cages. Theyre not in the followers list etc theyre 100% gone. Bs.
Are they crafter/worker thralls and are you playing on a server or singleplayer that has Living Settlements enabled?
Crafter thralls. Pve server. Yes living settlement is on i cannot acess controls as its official server.
There are many threads about this bug and I too have had this problem.
Until a proper fix is applied there is a workaround which has worked for me:
-
Turn off thrall access to everything they can use in your base except for the crafting stations e.g. beds, seating, mannequins etc.
-
Wall your crafter thralls into their work area so they can’t wander around your base. Make sure to use actual walls rather than doors as you can’t stop thralls from using those.
This has worked for me so hopefully it will work for you.
I lost 2 thralls 10-20minutes after i log off regardless how i get them. Today, i logged off and lost 2 wheel-converted thralls after 18 minutes of being offline, for no reason. Nothing killed them, they just died. No server restart.
In my continuing role as “that guy” I’m going to ask the obvious question. Are you setting the thralls to a guard spot after getting them back to your base?
If not I assume, because I’ve never not done so, that they will return home to their guard spot by the cage they were rescued from and will then be killed by the hostile NPCs around it.
If that’s not the issue then I haven’t a clue what it could be. I can say I’ve never had a rescued thrall randomly die or disappear.
I converted a blacksmith III using a wheel of pain. It died 4 hours ago for unknown reasons, 18 minutes after i logged off. They always die whe i’m offline, so I asume they are just falling through the terrain and take fall dmg when out of bounds.
If followers have an expiration date, I wouldn’t mind. I take pleasure in collecting them all the time. At least Funcom should admit that this is a feature and not a bug, so we can move on.
I’ve been trying to duplicate the thrall loss issues and have not been able to do so. I lost some that could have been due to a nearby spawn and a couple at a different base that could have been due to werehyenas during the event that spawns them.
Blocking the mob spawn and strategically placing some fighters and equipping the thralls with better gear seems to have solved the problem. Haven’t lost any since and it’s been quite awhile.
I also have four other bases that have never lost any. I don’t disable thrall use on anything since I’m trying to figure out what the trigger is.
It seems when people do get hit with this then they get hit hard and it never ends. So it would seem there’s something different about those bases.
All I can say is that I try to build on flat areas and keep the tops of foundations as low to the ground as possible, build fairly small along the lines of 8x12, don’t use palisades or doors, ensure that no path that a thrall might take is blocked in any way including by another thrall when at a station and by limiting thrall stations to the first two floors. Having steps up on one side of a base then more steps up to third floor on the other side of the base can completely flummox the thrall pathing. Also be sure there’s plenty of room around things like campfires, wells, food pots, large crates and braziers for thralls to gather around without clipping into a wall or whatever.
I can’t say for sure that any of these things actually make a difference. Just that it has worked very well for me so far.
I appreciate you taking the time to write all this feedback. I’ll give these suggestions a go and see how they work for me.
What works for me is that I make sure to have more beds and chairs than bench thralls. I have not lost a thrall yet when I make sure this happens. On a new official server I forgot to do this and I lost a thrall due to not having enough chairs. I had the beds but not chairs or benches. I have not lost one since.
