an AFK timer of 20-30 mins would be good, anything shorter and that might cause accidental issues with players who are in the middle of rp’ing (lots of typing but no/minimal movement).
Personally, I suspect that some of the players being labelled afk are not afk, but actually doing stuff. Just how many times would your toon die of starvation/thirst if you were afk for 10 hours - then, depending on server settings, that is a lot of gear lost.
what gear lost? You stay naked in your shelter.
The lack of AFK timer (and chat window on PS4) is why I play offline solo. These things need to happen.
Exactly. Player puts all of their gear in a box/chest near their bedroll or bed. Nothing is lost and the character just keeps spawning at the same spot over and over again while the player is AFK.
Here’s a question. To those of you playing official servers (since private servers won’t have this issue, or can run a mod that adds the feature if they do).
What will you do when the official servers you play on are eventually shut down? I mean lets be honest. They are only temporary. 40 slot servers aren’t cheap to rent, and they have 300 of them.
I don’t play on official servers because I need a home, I do it because I love to play. Official Servers are where many new players come to experience a real ruleset, and that imposed reality brings out the level best in people, I’ve found. I’ll just go where the players are. 
20 min please… im playing 10hrs a day and sometimes i go smoke a cig and take a small break. 20 mins is perfect
Maybe those people have lost their stuff 4 times in a row on 4 different servers because of not being about to log in and someone dismantled all of their hard work each time because of the decay, so now theyre making sure that doesnt happen again. The only reason I dont do it is because I fear for the health of my console being left on that long, but after having to start over 4 times, you can be sure if I didnt care about my system, Id be logged in 24/7, cause a 5th time means im getting my money and time back one way or another.
just a slight bit of input on this situation, WoW has a 30 minute kick timer, but the same with this game, its able to be worked around anyways, you can open up the virtual keyboard, use an auto clicker and jump or do an action every few minutes to stop it from affecting you anyways. cough not sure how i know about this cough
