New Follower Limit - Feedback thread

No wonder with such strange ideas… Game was advertised to “domniate” and enslave people… But not with “but max to 55, as our servers are crap”.

They seem to listen to some certain people. Who or where this are is the question…

One guy complained about Dragonbone arrows being to expensive compared to Serpentman → boom serpentman needs demon blood?!?

If they LISTEN like that, then please dont listen at all. Dragonbone arrow price still makes no sense at all compared to any other arrow in the game.

Eh, I don’t think the “game was advertized with” argument holds here. It was not advertized with “dominate any number of thralls” either - but it WAS launched like that. It’s a change, and people dislike that on principle, let alone the actual effects, so it’s not too surprising that the forum blows up.

It’s a bit sad to see so many people just focus on the negatives though, unlike Vathisgate™ (which I was against) this comes as part of a new and exciting follower leveling system, and I think that’s a big win.

I am so happy i didn’t bought the last 2 DLC… because there is no point for making big aestetics castles that are EMPTY. 400 is a joke for my solo game, seriously.
Yesterday I was planning to buy derketo and arena with my credit card, and what disillusionment when I saw that limitation…
No more interest for me in this game

You have something todo until it hits lvl20 and the other positive thing is to “send them away”. Thats it… Rest are only negative things.

We know way to less, to say its a big win or a big lose. What if lvl20 thralls are just little bit stronger than current without levels?
And if they are way stronger, PvP will cry for nerfs anyways and Funcom listens to whiny PvP players alot.

So again, I dont see there a big win. You have to invest time when the patch hits, to be on the same state as before the patch.
Replacing old thralls with new ones with leveling and level them up.

Yeah, some people are happy with that… But that does not bring in new content to level thralls up…

Its great for people who also like seasons… A forced restart, so that they “have something todo”. But its still the same… NO thx.

I don’t mind change but I have no idea what I’m getting I know which of my current thralls that act correctly they do what there suppose to do but even if these followers might be a bit stronger they might not act correctly like my current thralls and I’m being told I have to kill my thralls for followers that might be worse … I wouldn’t mind the change but funcom needs to raise the limit cap for followers I have one main base with 7 outposts and somewhere about 150-200 thralls defending them besides reserves in chests

That’s the thing, one thing is the limit itself, the other that i have to let them go. With the statement that you are over the limit random thralls will get deleted, there is no way for me to secure my beloved entertainers or companions.
It can’t be that difficult to allow putting thralls back into the inventory, there is even a mod for that on private servers.
Just make that an addition to your patch and a lot of people will be happy, because it would allow them to bag their favourite thralls and then accept that whatever excess is left randomly gets deleted.
And again, in pve/pve-c the endgame is building mainly, why would i build if it then is completely empty?

Oh, yeah, in the official Q&A thread your last reply…

“There is no building cap”.
Well there was neither a thrall cap until yesterday…

Certainly. Funcom has also stated on multiple occasions that they have no desire or intentions of ever implementing a building limit, so I see no problem in letting someone who was worried about their base know that there is no building limit, nor is one proposed with the new system.

I am not aware that they have ever said anything one way or the other on a thrall limit, though I suppose it’s possible.

Where did they say this?

Thats a good question, if someone ever asked about sth… Probably to hard to find now anyway…

On this forum, certainly. Though I can’t say exactly when or in which threads that would be. My gut feeling is the last time I saw it was a few months back, but don’t hold me to that.

I think they’ve said so on streams too, but I’m less sure about that. Multigun’s excellent writeups would be an easy-ish way to quickly run through those.

Let me bag the Thralls I have and store them away for a rainy day. That way I can choose which ones I want to put out.

Also, I agree with the above poster. There needs to a counter showing how many thralls you have out. They need to allow us to start bagging them before the patch hits. As It is gonna take us awhile to go through all our bases and round them up along with our gear on them.

I’ve started playing since day 1 on EA I still have my very first T3 thrall that I tamed … since that time my little army has grown to somewhere in the amount of 150-200 soldiers they have been with me through thick and thin defending my base from trolls bringing world bosses over to my base on different occasions when I wasn’t on and fighting off purges I proudly made them great armor and weapons so they can be protected while doing there duty many have accompanied me through exploration across the exiled lands always putting my life first above there own others have journeyed with me to fight the legendary monsters through dark infested dungeons I am proud of them all … how funcom can you ask me to start murdering these loyal soldiers of mine?

we can keep the old thralls/pets up to the cap, but they will be inferior. thats prolly why we cant “rebag” em, cause their code is different. btw, the thrall counter is the thrall pot/feedbox ;]

2k hrs ingame here. Love this game.
I would pay for this game yearly for as much time as I have dinked around in it. Definitely played my money’s worth. I’ve always thought of this game as adult minecraft with a splash of Arc.

I like playing funcom servers over private due to the knowledge that I know the server won’t vanish like a lot of private ones do.

I like building. I enjoy collecting. The game has hundreds of diff items.

I get a kick out of randomly killing things in a variety of ways.

Dlcs provide great pieces to create amazing builds.

So how do I spend my endgame time?

I play the new content briefly until the new items are acquired then I integrate them into my builds and my guild’s builds.

We place thralls to protect against wierdly placed purges. Outside gates, on a player built road, inside a fishhut… protecting a leatherworking building in the savanah… etc. You get the idea.
They aren’t over spammed guards. Placement makes sense.

It looks tight and clean.

We place thralls on a newly released stage piece in a bar.

We place a dancer thrall with matching religion wear near alters.

We built a prison and its pretty dang cool. Etc.

So what now?

After a thrall count, we have roughly 150 placed thralls and the ocasional pet. All with a purpose or an asthetic reason. We could trim maybe 15 before things start looking like a ghost town.

This is the first time I’ve had to re evaluate what is conan endgame now to me?

Does the creative side I enjoy so much have a place anymore?

Makes my stomach turn a bit knowing maybe its time to sit back and take a break.

I understand why limits are being introduced. Totally get it.

I want mounts to work so bad. But is the mount mechanic worth what I enjoy doing after lvl 60?

The current purposed limit just doesn’t fit currently with our very small (not a max filled guild) group’s playstyle.

Not asking for thoughts or comments.
I just want funcom to read how I, as a player, and my guild like to spend our time in game.

It’s a sad truth that we, the PVE and PVE-C players, have always been second class.

Yes, but there are better solutions that are also feasible. Thrall density cap instead of a total thrall cap would work just as fine. Imagine the following: you’re trying to place a thrall, the game counts the thralls in a fixed radius around it and gives you the message “too many thralls in this area”. This is different from “too close to another thrall”, it’s not a cap on proximity, but on density. It would work just as fine as a total thrall cap to reduce lag, and almost as fine to improve server framerate (those are two different problems, caused by different factors).

I am assuming private server owners will have the ability to adjust the power level of pets and thralls outside of the power adjustment settings for monsters/NPCs?

This is a really bad idea. The caps are tiny. You will make people quit playing.

I am a solo player on an official PvE server. My cap would be 55 followers.

I currently have:

  • 11 map-rooms, with 13 followers each for 143 followers.
  • My main base has 100 followers.
  • I have a prison tower with a named thrall collection with 63 followers.
  • I have a market where I sell things to other players with 45 followers.
  • I have a temple with 22 followers.

I have a total of 373 followers out of the 55 I would be limited to.

What should I get rid of? All of my map-rooms that provide a teleportation network to everyone else who plays on the server? My main base? My prison tower that keeps the game fun? My market where I help everyone else with resources and items they want? I don’t really need a temple, though I use it as a warehouse to store materials I sell in the market, and losing it to reduce my followers by 22 would in no way make me enjoy the game more.

I can understand that PvP may have more of an issue with follower spam, but if that’s the case, at least leave PvE servers alone.

I disagree. I think this change is wonderful and I hope funcom doesn’t listen to you. I play on a PvE server where an inactive clan with no bases at all still periodically logs in to preserve a field of hundreds of pets near New Asagarth.

That seems to be a larger problem that a follower cap wouldn’t really solve.

It’ll help, though. The old feeding system worked pretty well, but it didn’t work as well as desired and people were always crying about how hard it was to keep your followers fed.
