Newer chests closing animation does not work when exiting the chest window

Bug Description:

Newer chests do not have a closing animation when exiting the chest window


Bug Reproduction:

  1. Place a newer chest (eg: Storage container: woodcutter, Recipe: Treasure Chest, Arcane Curio Cabinet).
  2. Open the chest
  3. Close the chest window
  4. Chest will remain open and upon opening the chest again, the animation is for actual closing of the chest. This issue occurs only for the newer chests

Been that way for a while. The normal chests used to do the same thing, but that somehow caused problems with the ones out in the world that contained random loot because they wouldnā€™t respawn or something if left open. That issue was eventually fixed.

Storage chests players build and put in their base I guess I donā€™t mind so much having this behavior. I think Iā€™d prefer it close automatically, but it does currently give you the option of leaving it open for decorative purposes if you want. (Although it also brings that old toilet seat argument into the game as well I suppose. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Anyway, I just got into the habit of using the interact button to exit the storage containers rather than esc.

Hmm, Iā€™ve just tried closing with interact ā€˜Eā€™ and also with Tab, the window will close with any of these, but the actual chest animation will not be triggered, at least this is the current behavior on my single player map :stuck_out_tongue: . Now that you mention it, it does look a bit like a toilet seat :joy:

You do have to make sure your target reticle is still over the container, otherwise the ā€œinteractā€ action is just shooting over or around it. Basically just make sure youā€™re pointing directly at the container when you go to open it and it should work. :wink:

Yes, it works, thank you for the workaround :smiley: . Oh well, letā€™s see if staff considers this for a possible fix, I think it should still close easier like the older ones.
