Outdated Client impossible to troubleshoot

Please make the numbers make sense. I run my own server and the client updated today. I updated the server with steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir "C:\YourServerPath\DedicatedServerLauncher\ConanExilesDedicatedServer" +login anonymous +app_update 443030 validate +quit.I can’t connect to the server because I get the message:

Outdated Client

The match you are trying to join is running an incompatible version of the game. Please try upgrading your game version.

So I’m trying to troubleshoot this and there are various numbers that are not even remotely helpful in troubleshooting:

  • Game client menu screen: Revision #369,366/0 Backend Live (1)
  • Steam game info: Build ID: 24249753
  • Dedicated Server Launcher server version: 367789

All of these numbers are wildly different and completely unhelpful in figuring out if my game client and server are the same version and should work together.

The server log at least displays some comparable numbers, but does this mean that the server version (367789) is behind the client version (369366)? Both have been updated so this doesn’t make sense. Also the error message in the game client says “Outdated client” suggesting the client version is behind the server version.

Commenting in case anyone else facing the same issue ends up here.

The client version has been helpfully obfuscated by formatting the straightforward number 369366 as “#369,366/0” (from “Revision #369,366/0 Backend Live (1)” which is displayed on the main in-game menu screen). So I think you should be able to compare 369366 with the number displayed in the DSL at the top: 367789 (from “Server 5.6.1/367789”).

The advice here about bUseBuildIdOverride is no longer relevant (as of DSL 1.9.4) as the Dedicated Server Launcher automatically removes these values from Engine.ini.

I am still left with no idea of how to get my server and client versions to align.

What a mess, I have had constant installation and update problems with CEE. I finally got it to update:

  • in DedicatedServerLauncher\steamapps delete:
    • appmanifest_443030.acf
    • downloading
    • temp
  • In DSL check “Validate files” then click start server, finally got it to update to 369366
