Game mode: Single-player Type of issue: Crash | Bug Server type: Single-player Default Region: Local
I’m getting a lock-up after playing for a variable length of time. Sometimes is after an hour, and sometimes it will take anywhere between ~4-5 hours. The screen will freeze, and the sound will ‘stutter’ on whatever the last tone was that was playing. In this state the PC is completely unresponsive - No Task Manager, Windows key, or Alt-Tabbing. I have to perform a manual shutdown.
I have this error occur roughly 5 times now since I’ve installed on my new PC, though I cannot reliably replicate it other than to just play the game and wait for it to occur.
I have the Conan Log files, as well as the log files from MSI Afterburner (Just can’t seem to find a way to upload them here without copy-pasting them…). So far I have been playing on Ultra settings, but I did try to lower them to High but the issue still occurs.
This may be coincidence, but, it does seem to occur during some kind of UI change. Examples: When updating attribute points on character, when left idle and camera shifts into rotating 3rd person mode, and when selecting “Make Me Admin” in settings.
I’ve posted this in the troubleshooting section of the Discord and it was recommended I come here. I had a look around here and Google to see if this has already been addressed and I didn’t see anything, so I apologize if I missed something
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
I’ve got the latest GPU drivers from GForce Experience. I also have the logs that were taken from the MSI Afterburner monitoring, which does contain the HW temps. However, I can try to monitor with the one you provided if the results are different with that program.
As far as measuring the audio latency, should it be done at any point during the games lifetime, or monitored up to the point of crashing?
Sorry for the delay in responding. I re-ran, and here are some pics of the task manager, resource manager, and the audio latency that was requested. I have the Logs from MSI Afterburner, but I am not sure how to upload it, and it is too large for pastebin.
EDIT: These pictures were taken at the time the crash occured.
EDIT 2: Crash occured while in the rotating idle 3rd person camera.
Sadly, I don’t have the option to swap the GPU with anyone. I have a second desktop but its junk and about 7+ yrs old and wouldn’t be compatible with the RTX card.
This may or may not help.
Windows 10 for some reason decides to occasionally run games that need your gpu to run, run on gpu 1 (copy).
This is your gpu copied and running from a hdd/ssd on your machine.
Totally inadequate for most newer games.
I have seen this happen to my sons pc when he is continually crashing out of ark.
You can open up a column in task manager that lists what gpu a program is using.
If you feel that you are about to get a freeze or crash, thats when to check task manager.
Conan should be running off gpu 0.
There is a fix for this but i cant remember off the top of my head. If you search the net for disable gpu 1 copy, you should find it.
I was able to successfully run Conan for 5+ Hours without any crashes with the second GPU. However, it had to be done on the lowest graphics settings due to the graphics card being crap. It is a Radeon Sapphire 7770 HD. I’m not sure if the settings are a huge factor.
I did install a mechanical hard drive when I received the computer. I use this drive for all of my steam/epic games. I noticed today that after running borderlands 2 (post-crash with same symptoms as Conan) that my character save was corrupted. Could this be related to what is causing Conan to crash, considering they are installed on the same drive? (Conan save does not get corrupted and the HDD is a used drive from my other desktop).
Ran it for 1800 seconds (30 mins) and it says there is no issue. I’m going to reinstall Conan on the same SSD that the OS is on and see if that resolves the error.
I was able to run Conan for 5+ hours after reinstalling it on the SSD that the OS is on. I will run some more tests, including if Borderlands will also run under the same conditions.
I am able to run ARK (Also an unreal engine game) from the HDD in single player for 5+ hours.
I am going to test if ARK will fail under Multiplayer conditions on the HDD (As Conan fails in a semi multiplayer environment, and Borderlands 2 was only tested in multiplayer).
I’ll test borderlands 2 in single player on the HDD, and both single and multiplayer on the SSD.
I want to rule out some kind of networking error on my motherboard, though it is looking likely that the error may be due to having Conan installed on my secondary HDD rather than the primary SSD.
