I have been summoned but they didn’t get the proper warding …so I’m here unfettered.
Ok so you want to create your own server. Got it but before we remotely go into setting you have to come up with what you actually want.
Is this just a private sandbox you want for yourself and some close friends or is this going to be open to the public?
Are you wanting to play with the others or just DM as admin?
What is the player interaction going to be?
Grieving tolerance if you want player combat of any kind?
As admin you get to play home owner association so you also get to determine how close is too close for clans to be next to each other, are you going to tolerate offense building (sealing off other clans etc), how big is too big…
Most of the work you will do is more server policy and then get your settings to match when it can. Things you can’t control in settings, you control in ToS for you game.
Finally, where do you see your game going in the next 6 months to a year and do you have an exit strategy/succession plan for when you burn out to keep the game going…and you will burn out eventually it’s just a matter of when.
Burn out does happen after close to 4 years have been there. Lately introduction let’s people know how to get into touch with us if things are going wrong. Is kinda fun wandering around the server and finding bases belonging to people you have never seen on.
Yeah for sure! I burned out and had to take a break multiple times on the servers I was admin on but those servers were very heavily reliant on player to admin communication for a lot of different things, I’d like to reduce that, and with my prior experience I would like to create something that has less admin-reliance and is pretty much just a slightly boosted official server with a few admin events thrown in from time to time to keep things interesting, of course I’ll still have to police certain player behaviours/actions (I remember the trolls/griefers would sometimes be out in full force without password-protection! )
That’s ok, I was more thinking I would collect resources from individual players myself and store them in an admin created base/vault, but that’s only IF they have saved up enough bronze coins (earned through admin events) that they would able to unlock a bank slot to protect valuable resources, it wouldn’t be anything excessive, maybe a maximum of two iron chests worth?
Based on your own admin experience, what are some non-negotiable rules that you’ve implemented that you think would contribute to a more enjoyable and less toxic player experience?
So far the main things I’ve got are:
Raid Times (NZST):
Monday: 19:00 - 23:59
Tuesday: NO RAIDS
Wednesday: NO RAIDS
Thursday: NO RAIDS
Friday: NO RAIDS
Saturday - 19:00 - 23:59
Sunday - 19:00 - 23:59
The other days are spent collecting resources/thralls without interruption and keep loot on death will be enabled during non-raid times.
I understand that some players might want to use their weekends doing other things which is why I would allow Monday as an additional raid day.
No Foundation spamming or excessive land-claim. (How excessive is excessive is a debatable subject, I don’t mind if you want to build big castles or fortresses but try not to build anything tooo massive that’s going to potentially crash the game when approaching!)
No under-meshing!
No destroying admin builds (unless they are FOBS which are built by me to be destroyed by the players for loot & potential bronze coins)
No bullying or harassment of other players (I get things will get heated between players at war but at least don’t make things personal or any kind of personal threats of hate speech etc)
No obelisk camping. (can be proved via video capture)
No blocking valuable resources or world-bosses. (places like brimstone lake or berserker spawn)
Only one WoP allowed per clan at any major thrall encampment.
Each clan is allowed to have a maximum of two “Main” bases (a main base would be considered anything larger than 12x12 foundations)
Each clan however is additionally allowed to build multiple smaller outposts as long as those outposts stay within the 12x12 rule and do not block valuable resources/bosses or could be considered land-claim/foundation spamming.
Offline raiding is not against the rules! As a full-time worker, trying to police that is not something I am willing, or have the time to do, instead I’ll offer you an unlock-able banking system where you can safely store a limited amount of valuables that you can call upon if you need them, take this opportunity to experiment with different defensive building structures. (Figure out what worked well and what didn’t and use the bank to rebuild more effectively!)
It’s still a work in progress but I would appreciate any feedback from your own personal experiences as admins, cheers
I find the full raid able to be abused from players too. I remember once the raid from one clan started at 22:00 and keep on coming until 06:00 in the morning. We couldn’t go on we had to sleep you know we were tired. So we send message either to the admin and the other clan that it’s enough, we need to sleep. So after the message we logged out. Ofcurce the next day we spawn in desert .
So 24h pvp yes but!!? Put a time frame on raids, 8 hours non stop raid is tiresome. If a clan starts a raid the maximum they have is four hours, no more. To ensure this make them send you message before they start raid and people that are raided to send message too so the clock will start ticking.
Again… Are you ready for this madness .
Yeah now that you mention it, maybe leaving people to be able to raid at all hours of the weekend might be a bad idea, I definitely need my sleep haha I’ll add restrictions from 19:00 - 23:59 on the weekends too.
