Please Stop Funcom!

Every update…EVERY SINGLE ONE…introduces new bugs and breaks many of the popular server mods. Here is what I want out of Funcom…please just STOP TOUCHING THE GAME!!! Just abandon it and let the modders fix it. I’d be happy if you’d just say “we have decided to never touch the code again and we’re moving on…”

I’m so sick of these “updates.” Just whose bright idea was it to change the way the database worked in the latest patch to “make modding easier.” Funcom doesn’t think about the players and I doubt anyone on staff there is actually a player of the game. Funcom’s disconnect with its players is absolutely staggering.

And yes, I’m ranting, but stuff like this happens with EVERY SINGLE UPDATE!!!

True. But this one addressed many bugs, touching many areas of the game.

This is expected and has been communicated from the beginning.

This time around there was a near to two week lead time between devkit release and launch. One of the longest periods for modders to prep from what I understand. Normally they get a few days. This means Funcom is listening to the modders and player community that enjoys those mods. If a modder can’t adjust their mods within that period of time there may be other issues at play beyond the game. That’s not to say that there may be problems within the devkit that prevents speedy adjustments.

What about console? I heard they make up the majority of the player population.
What about those who enjoy vanilla in singleplayer and multiplayer?
And of course there are still the Official servers to consider.

All 3 are just as important as the modding/modded community.

I want this game to succeed and continue to be the masterpiece it is. Preferably without the myriad of issues it has faced for so long.

If that were true then they wouldn’t have done this update. A stability and bug focused update has been begged for by many in the community. There was question and apprehension since the game was in a poor state - still much work to be done but they did as they promised and for some of us that were rooting for them, we’re happy. I am sorry you’re not.

I won’t disagree entirely here. There’s certainly improvement to be made.

Indeed.

So, I will say a big nope from me. They shouldn’t stop. They should continue to lend an ear to the general sentiment of the community and be inclusive of all modes, platforms and niche communities. They should continue to do better, communicate with us, improve the game and be the best they can be.

As a long time original beta player, I fully endorse and support this message. Well said, @Kikigirl

I wasn’t here from Beta, but I’ve certainly been here for many years now, and I entirely agree with @Kikigirl and @Bodin. I would say that overall this update is one of the most positive steps we’ve seen in a long time, with several different elements of evidence that Funcom has indeed been listening to the community and is trying to give us what we want (and that’s speaking as someone who didn’t receive any of the specific fixes that I most wanted) - this really is a step in the right direction and I wholeheartedly hope that Funcom continues in this direction. There is certainly room for improvement, and I hope they continue to do so, but this is a big step in the direction of those improvements.

And through the ashes of despair, a new leader emerges…

Exactly.

I will put this in a seperate post but wanted to reiterate it here.

I have been a very vocal critic of the production team’s choices. Since the start of Age of War we had seen one unmitigated disaster after another, no communication, no remorse, and a constant lecture that the players are using the game wrong. Last June they gave us a mea culpa for their behavior and then continued with their behavior, which was as disappointing as it was unsurprising.

The update announcement was typical Funcom, lots of words, miniscule information. Because of this, i was certain this update would be one more bag of “meh.”

I was wrong.

The patch notes are extensive, descriptive, professional and extremely informative. After the patch and the following server update this morning, I have not found an item mentioned which does not behave as described in the patch notes.

This has been unheard of for years.

This patch did not fix everything. This patch did not fix a number of the huge things. But it fixed what it said it fixed, and that is a change I applaud.

Exactly.

I hate to break it to you, but Funcom does not break mods. Funcom UPDATES THE BASE GAME. If a mod is no longer capable of functioning, then it is beholden of the mod author to update their mod to bring it in line with the new updated base game. And as @Kikigirl pointed out, THIS SPECIFIC UPDATE came with a release of the devkit much sooner than recent updated which were released a day or two prior to their major updates, and sometimes AFTER smaller updates and only after outcry from the community.

Furthermore, this generally only really effects servers with 40+ mods on them that have to go down, update, come up, go down, update, come up, go down, update and so forth for the next several days because all of these various mods are made by a great many different authors who are updating said mods WHEN THEY HAVE THE TIME TO DO SO because they have…real world jobs and lives. :exploding_head: Most servers with very few mods do not really have much of an issues where as private servers without mods, or even one or two mods rarely have any issue at all. And as @Kikigirl pointed out you are selfishly ignoring all of the players on Playstation, XBox, Official Servers, Private Servers that are unmodded, Single Player / Solo who do not use mods. So what makes you think that YOUR PREFERRED method of playing should supersede everyone else’s? And this is coming from someone who uses mods (though as few as possible)!

Yes, you most assuredly are!
