The shift-click to precisely split a stack is gone. The Quick Split options to split a stack in half do not replace that.
For example: I want to build a stable, so I need 15 brick, 10 shaped wood and 10 string. Benches contain stacks of hundreds of these items. Instead of shift-clicking exactly the amount of these mats I need, I have to right click several times to get a stack of each item that is greater than the amount needed but not enough to encumber my character, restack the spit items in the bench, go and build the stable, then return to the benches and replace the overage.
Expect outrage from the community if precise splitting is not returned.
Well this is frankly ridiculous. In an update where the patch notes try to make a big thing about QoL improvements, they remove a key QoL feature that has always been in the game, and don’t even bother mentioning the change.
Please bring back the precise split option. It was my main method of splitting stacks. Constantly right clicking to equally split so I can get the right amount is very annoying.
Additionally, by changing the ‘Right Click’ to split stacks, we can no longer use our right click it to eat food in our inventory (have to select food and click use, including Fragments of power), swap out a gear pieces that we’re wearing (changing to gas mask), or dress a thrall…
Yes, we have to literally drag each piece of gear to the thrall’s appropriate armor slot to dress them, and of course, each time we drag a piece, the inventory auto scrolls us all the way to the bottom. So we have to scroll back up to the top to drag the next piece.
Come on now, calling them idiots and braindead is unnecessary.
They said in the devstream that they never found themselves using the precision splitting, so apparently they came to the very incorrect conclusion that nobody else was using it either.
Hopefully the feedback - which can be given in a civil manner - causes them to reverse this decision and put it back in.
Not only should this feature not be removed (and let’s hope the devs see that many many players use these functions regularly), but the same dialog window could (and should) be used for crafting a precise number of something.
Example for illustrative purposes -
blacksmith bench producing steel reinforcements - I generally want to convert around 10% (maybe 5%) of the completed reinforcements into steel bars. Under the current system I have to remove all of the steel reinforcements from the bench, split stacks to the amount that I want to craft and then place those back in (to ‘craft all’) or I can leave the materials in the bench but have to slowly increment the craft total by repeatedly clicking a button. (removal of the ability to precisely split stacks will, of course, make this process even more cumbersome)
You are correct in one respect and I will be editing out that poor choice of wording. I personally have not watched the stream but the very idea that the devs themselves have never used the precision splitting is mind-boggling. But that is their choice to use it or not, it is another thing entirely to deny it from everyone else!!!
Frankly, just about every decision since the announcement of the end of the culture DLC’s has been a horrid decision, or if not it has been poorly implemented and hastily thrown together and barely functioning, if at all. And the worst part is, I do not even entirely blame the devs. They are being forced to work in an unreasonable time constraint to not only come up with new ideas every few months but to create those ideas in a working state on top of all of the nonsense crap they constantly have to create to push the sales numbers for the store. In a sense, it’s kind of amazing that anything works at all!
So yeah, I do think that the devs do actually care about the game still. But they work for Funcom, and Funcom has no choice but to do what Tencent tells them to and Tencent doesn’t give a rats you know what about the game or us. I just cannot see how any of the recent decision can be viewed in a positive manner. Not the dye debacle. Not the stack splitting shamble. Not the SoC nerfing numbskullery. Not the changes to the combat system. There has just been nothing positive that they have been doing lately, and they have been making the game not worth loading up at all.
It is a quality of life change.
Just like stripping the ability to dye armour outside of the bench.
It is a degradation of quality of life.
So it is a quality of life update.
Update: the quality of your life in game has gone down.
Having watched the Stream, this one thinks that if they base whether a feature has merit in the game on the standard of whether they use it or not, this one would be very surprised if the Login feature was considered meritorious by those making these decisions.
Or perhaps up next, because neither of them play PvP shall they just remove that game mode entirely?
Speaking of dyes, now that precise splits have been eliminated, if I want to add a single dye to a radium gem light, I need to right click it 6-7 times.
