Proving that Steam and Epic use the same file system

I saved space by using a single installation for both Steam and Epic. I only needed to change one name in BELauncher.ini, since the game files are identical on both platforms.

Steam is “64BitExe=ConanSandbox.exe” and Epic Games is “64BitExe=ConanSandboxEgs.exe” – only 3 letters, actually.

So why not release it on the Epic Games Store?

Is there some kind of agreement with Steam?

This is the .bat file I used to automate the switch from Epic to Steam.
Furthermore, to get the game recognized on Steam, I changed the Steam installation path to where Epic Games installed the game.

On Steam, I went to the “\Steam\steamapps” folder and edited the “appmanifest_440900.acf” file in Notepad. I found the line “installdir” and changed the path to “A:\Epic Games\ConanExiles\WindowsNoEditor,” which is where I installed the game from Epic Games.

The image is from the .BAT file I created to automate switching from Steam to Epic Games.

What about MS?

I didn’t buy that version from the Microsoft Store; I only bought it once on PlayStation, once on Epic Games, and three times on Steam. My main account was on Epic Games; the others were for my family. I don’t use Steam’s family sharing feature for privacy reasons.

There’s probably a way to do the same thing with Microsoft, with some differences, since I know Microsoft uses a strange protection system.

Not to leave our friends at the EPIC and MS storefronts in the lurch. I took the liberty to draft up a plea for you guys as well @PacificJR …if you want to add this or a version that may come out of this on your polling post that would be good. The only caveat I had with the storefront is the DLC’s and Crom Coin balances would need to be sacrificed but this is a plea to FC to do a one time transition of FC live from your storefronts to a steam account and therefore connect and maintain any BP or bazaar purchases .

The PC Migration Plea: A One-Time “FC Live” Bridge

1. The Core Argument: Policy vs. Ability

We recognize that Internal Policies are not Physical Laws. Funcom has built a robust identity system in Funcom Live Services (FLS). This system is already platform-agnostic; it knows our history, our levels, and our Bazaar entitlements. The “impossibility” of migration is an administrative choice, not a technical barrier.

2. The Functional Solution

We propose a Limited-Time Migration Window (e.g., May 4 – June 5, 2026) with the following protocol:

  • Account Linking: Allow EGS and MS Store users to link their existing FLS accounts to a Steam profile via the Funcom web portal.
  • Entitlement Sync: Trigger a one-time “refresh” that flags the Steam FLS ID with all Bazaar and Battle Pass items currently owned on the “Legacy” storefront.
  • Currency Liquidation: Acknowledge that Crom Coin balances remain store-locked, but allow the content bought with those coins to move.
  • The “Legacy” Sunset: After the window closes, the EGS/MS Store versions are officially moved to “Permanent Legacy” status, and the bridge is severed.

3. The Quality Control Crisis

By refusing this bridge, Funcom is creating a two-tier community where EGS and MS Store players are left with:

  • Unsupported Software: A version of the game that will no longer receive the security and stability patches inherent to the UE5 build.
  • Economic Entropy: A marketplace (The Bazaar) that is shut down, effectively devaluing all past financial investments in that storefront.
  • The Unified Map Gap: Exclusive access to the merged Exiled Lands and Siptah maps for Steam users only, despite the hardware being identical.

The Plea Conclusion: We are not asking for a permanent cross-play solution or a refund. We are asking for a Digital Lifeboat. Use the existing FLS architecture to move your most dedicated veterans into the “Enhanced” world before the Legacy versions perish through neglect.
