Rawhide bedroll returning to inventory as hide

As the title says, I’m experiencing a problem where returning the rawhide bedroll to inventory results in a single hide being put there instead of the bedroll. It’s happening on my private server. I’ve tried restarting the server, as well as removing all mods. It’s not happening in singleplayer - it works as it should both with and without mods - nor is it happening on the official server I play on.

Any insights will be appreciated.

Are you picking it back up or dismantling?

Picking it back up using the “Return to Inventory” option.

I can confirm Onomog’s finding. I have the same thing occurring on my Offline Singleplayer game for ps5. And it does occur with the pick up command. Frustratingly, when we do pick it up, it only returns 1 unit of hide as opposed to 3, so we must be careful to either carry multiple bedrolls (which I generally do anyway), or ensure we have additional, hide in our inventory if moving the bedroll. No idea if this is intended or a bug.

Given that it’s not happening across game types (single player, private server, official server) I doubt it’s intended. Like I mentioned, it works fine in my single player game, as well as the official server I play on, yet it’s not working for you in single player. Weird bug.

Does this happen with the construction hammer being used to pick it up?
And does it happen to the fiber bedroll too?

Just trying to narrow down the bug here. Not able to try it in game right at this moment.

I didn’t think to try the construction hammer. Will try that later tonight and report back. The fiber bedroll does the same thing, putting fiber in the inventory instead of a bedroll.

UPDATE: Removing either the rawhide bedroll or the fiber with the construction hammer gives you hide or fiber, respectively, in the same amounts as if I had tried to return it to inventory.

Adding another data point to this: the problem seems to affect anything you try to return to inventory, like the camp fire (which returned as wood and stone) and the Awakened Staff of the Triumverate (which returned as the unawakened staff and albino bat demon blood).

Strange, my rawhide bedroll works fine in SP, I can place it and pick it up from the radial menu without issues. No issues with campfire either.

Some further testing:

  • Removed BattleEye: Problem persists - works fine in single player; broken on private server

  • Wiped private server and reinstalled to defaults with no mods: Problem persists - works fine in single player; broken on private server

  • Reinstalled local client: Problem persists - works fine in single player; broken on private server

I’m really at a loss here. And, since it’s also affecting quest/story items like the Staff of the Triumverate, it’s kind of game breaking, since any other story related items that need placing and picking up will just revert to their original components requiring a repeat of all the steps that got you to the item you placed.

Whoa. I had not noticed this with story items, only with bedrolls and placeables. In that case @Onomog if I were you I would go ahead and generate a bug report. Let the team see if they can replicate and hopefully resolve it.

So after walking away from the problem for a bit and making some coffee, I started combing through the .ini files. I eventually found a setting in the ServerSettings.ini file called “BuildingPickupEnabled” it was set to false. Once I changed it to true, everything worked as it should. The restored game from backup also worked, once the setting was set to true.

I have no idea what changed it, but now I know where to look if the problem comes up again. I hope this helps others who are dealing with the same, or similar issue.

Thanks for sharing!

I am glad to hear that the problem has been resolved on your end Onomog. However the issue is not as easily resolved for us folk on consoles.

It occurred to me that consoles might not have access to those system files, but I was hopeful that my concerns were misplaced. I’m sorry to hear that my worries were well founded, @Croms_Faithful.

How do servers work on the console side? I’m guessing it’s not as simple as creating one on hosting service like Host Havoc or GPortal? Or does Funcom host them?
