Reason NOT to overhaul speed of spear

Nerfing the speed of the spear isn’t a good idea, if its nerfed then youll be stuck with trading hits with other players with great axes. Might as well remove the spear entirely since its use is gone.

[Just revert the stamina changes and roll pike problem is fixed]

Spears are OP at the moment because of the changes made last time so Funcom created the issue that they then have to waste time fixing. If you pvp, have to use a spear or else and I hate using spears. The spear adj. coming may help on that front but then there will be another weapon and so forth and so on. Combat should have been left alone to avoid endless tweaking that will never be perfect. Oh well, just get ready to relearn other weapons you may not like with the next update. The last update also made light armor irrelevant in pvp situations against good pvpers.

Crom sword is currently a one shot weapon in the right hands with this crazy stamina regen. So yet another monster funcom created.

Id prefer to explore new dungeons and fight players during conflict time, but there are no new dungeons and im tired of having to use a spear.

This. A true PVP will use whatever is the most effective tool at their disposal. Only a PVp’er (Player vs Pixels, aka offliner) will get fixated only on one single weapon.

Removing spear viability in this meta won’t address that issue. Now daggers are gonna be the go-to. The AoW changes created a lackluster meta where the factors that determine a melee weapon’s viability are:
-How fast it can hit someone

And that’s literally it. Replacing mindless roll-poke with mindless roll-poke (dagger edition) is a bad solution to the problems of an already terrible meta. Spear is objectively cancerous right now, but that’s due to external factors rather than the weapon itself. It had a niche where it excelled and now that’s literally the ONLY niche that matters in a fight.

My solution would be to just revert back to the AoS meta where more than one weapon actually mattered at a time.

Then a real PVPer will be using daggers, now. Or get trounced by those who are experienced with them.

If you’re not adapting, you’re losing.

It is as has been mentioned.
In this game, Winners use whatever tactic is best, because no skill is more important that system mastery.
Loser complain because they are losing.

If you want to win, use the winning tactics,.no matter how cheap or questionable. This isn’t Civilized Vacationers, The Age of Electric Fencing.

But do not neglect the other meta…
Of whining like a petulant menlet until the Meta you don’t prefer (but are using right now, you sneaky winner you.) gets nerfed into oblivion. One needs no defense against the nerfed enemy. Keep the rules changing so the filthy casuals come back to nothing working anymore.
Think of it like the long game version of the report meta, go crying to the teacher until no one on the play ground is allowed to beat you.

This one is sorta joking.
Joking by hyperbole, not by specific.

I still find it a bit funny that the argument to not add 9 frames to the first heavy attack is because another weapon will dominate. The argument is literally Weapon A should dominate because it is Weapon A, while Weapon B shouldn’t dominate because it is not Weapon A.

Shaking up the meta keeps things fresh. Granted the existence of a meta is a problem but good luck making it go away.

Shaking up a meta good, yes.
But going back to a meta that already had years of run time is not.

This one refuses to put Feroxic Daggers on the pedestal next to Coca Cola Classic.

If we do see a Great Axe meta, as much as this one finds it a… Yeah, no… weapon style group, at least that’s something.

This one personally supports the Spear meta over the paired shivs and bladed pugil sticks.
The Spear is at least an actual battlefield weapon that historically was dominant.
The moveset for the Great Axe grates on this one severely. It’s not historic for the Ono, Dane Axe, Fu, or any other weapon where the Axe blade was doing the work, it’s not evocative of barbaric fantasy, it’s a fairly reasonable adaptation of poleaxe styles from the late Tudor period, and if this was For Honor or Hellish Quart, this one wouldn’t be hard on it at all (besides, nothing can screw up as bad a For Honor’s take on the Halberd, and yes, that is a challenge)

Paired Daggers…
Are a fine fantasy trope and a late Renaissance French street fighting style.
What the cluck they are doing here remains a mystery. How they were a higher priority than Great Axes is… anyway.
The problem is…
That there isn’t a problem with their moveset. It’s tight. It’s excellent. They have short implied range, but then you see your actual lunge distance with them, and it’s still existent hyper armour. Attack speed, dot stacking, versatility (back flip can still substitute for having an encumbrance build)…
Not since Dragon’s Dogma hard coded Double Jump as a paired dagger maneuver has this one been as disturbed by the level of devotion to this patently absurd high fantasy style.

But these are personal preferences.
Because this one despises the paired daggers and all the q-lock lag-taggers who fap to them…
Because this one has already detailed as nauseam their issues with the Great Axe…
Because the spear is a historically dominant weapon…
This one prefers the Spear meta

Also, just nerfing a weapon group is a crude solution to a nuanced problem. It’s the type of symptom covering billed as treatment that makes malpractice lawyers hot and bothered.

The game deserves better.
The devs are better than this.
The players…
Well, poop. Two out of three ain’t bad?

Killing the meta would be better.

Hard agree. Swapping out one form of brainrot for another is hardly conducive to a healthy PvP scene. Funcom is trying really hard to make purges a challenging and interesting experience by stripping hyper armor, but all we’ve got right now is a lame doordash NPC attack service coupled with the most homogenous PvP meta we’ve ever had.

Hyper armor exists to lend a dimension of identity to weapons, and relegate them to specific situations in which they can be utilized. With good hyper armor distribution, the spear can’t out play a 1h sword and the 1h sword gets pummeled by a 2h sword.

Weapon wheels are good. Players SHOULDN’T be going into PvP with a single weapon that can end everyone. If you’re mindlessly spamming spear or dagger pokes there should be something that can out-trade you and punish that sort of mindless gameplay.

Doesn’t go well with the current team mindset.
They want borderline mobile game difficulty. Easy for a new player to jump in, play a few hours of instant gratifications and buy something from the Bazaar.
That’s it. They don’t want any depth or difficulty in their game.
Removal of grey stam, new stamina regeneration etc. is nothing but a byproduct of their new philosophy.

Yes, and so would world peace, a daily ration of non addictive nutrient rich cocaine, the ability to teleport and personal solar powered jet packs.

But keeping expectations vaguely realistic is important.

I’m not sure that the recent changes were given that much forethought. I think the relatively small dev team arrived at the consensus that PvE content should be prioritized, and due to limited manpower and resources they chose the path of least resistance in an effort to make the new purge mechanic seem more difficult.

If we REALLY want to reach I’d say that the dev team observed the success of Elden Ring PvP, and are trying to emulate it without really understanding that it’s a totally different environment.

Maybe, or maybe it’s the good old “now it’s my game” mentality some lead devs have after acquiring a project from the previous team leader.
It’s not about being good or bad or any mechanics.
It’s about Dennis making game his via these changes without caring about what players may like or dislike.

Fair. It probably does boil down to one or two devs who are incapable of making good balancing decisions.

Or maybe they just create a problem to fix it later.
Just to keep their positions at the company.
Just pointless theory crafting.
Truth is, we have 6 more months of this AoW clown show with Dennis as the main clown trying to fix a problem of his own creation.

I’m going to make a prediction and if I’m correct I’ll constantly link my own comment. After Age of War is finally done with, we’re going to get a rebranding of old mechanics as something exciting and new. We’re already seeing it with the return of momentum.

Over the next few updates we’ll see language like, “We established a new and exciting state of play in Age of War, but in Age of Strife we want to focus on giving weapons their own purpose in combat, and pressing players to manage their health and stamina in ways that make fighting feel more pressing and dangerous.” Then they’ll literally restore hyper armor, slow down stam regen, and reduce damage back to roughly AoS values.
