Red Mother fight and loot table

The red mother fight is atrocious. I don’t even bother taking my thrall there anymore because every other attack pushes her under the ground and renders her useless. When she breathes fire it’s like watching Tokyo drift. I dodge with plenty of time but she just slides after you. To top it all her loot drop chance must be ridiculously low. I’ve killed her literally hundreds of times over the past 3 years and got NO reach of the red mother, NO last breath, and NO throwing axes. If this fight is going to stay this terrible at least look at the drop chances for her so it’s Actually worth your while to fight the damn thing.

Supposedly somewhat fixed on testlive…

Expect the patch on PS4 in 2-3 years :man_facepalming:

The Red Mother loot table is nightmare rng. If I understand correctly it got nerfed in one of the big playstation patches a year or so ago. It took me a while to get anything useful from her other than a lot of meat.

About the Tokyo Drifting, my best guess is that it’s a system performance/poor optimization issue. When I started playing on PS5 the drifting stopped. The game is a lovecraftian vampire abomination and it will suck as many resources as it can. The thralls still got buried underground, but the fight is a lot easier without the drifting.

I’ll just keep trying lol. I’m on ps5, I haven’t tried her after the update yet but I’m on ps5 and I was still getting the slide as of last night. My connection is ok at best though so it may have play a part.

Yeah that’s a good point about the connection. And if your server is busy and has a lot of thralls/zoos that might play a part on it too. From the last dev stream it sounded like that was a big source of performance issues and crashes. Hopefully they do the thrall limit soon.

I made my Red Mother runs bearable by concentrating on the side bosses. I would drop her, then go north east towards the skeleton dinosaur. From there kill the rest clockwise, then she’ll respawn. Her rng was still trash, but you can walk out with a lot of repair kits and fragments.

Some observations after the patch. Red Mother is now a lot more accurate with her basic melee and fire attacks. Running to her sides when she attacks doesn’t quite work as well anymore, but you can stand under her safely when breathing fire. I’m actually ok with the fight being harder since she’s the boss of the area.

What I’m not ok with is with the thralls dipping into the ground even harder than before. As in, the thralls looks at her and just NOPEs into the ground immediately. The lost city must be a truly mysterious land because Funcom never figured out how to prevent this.

The loot rng was a little better. from about 6 kills I got a torch and in every fight fragments and kits.

At least before the patch: Lure red mother to the stairs. Let the thrall fight there… There are some points, where the thrall is under her and she cannot put the thrall into the ground.

It’s a garbage AI issue. In 2.2 they replaced the decent AI that had some issues with a garbage AI that has way more issues. Mobs chase you much further, aggro rules are changed to insanity, mobs rotate mid-attack (see: dragon fire, frost giant axe swing, harpy chaingun, pretty much everything), mobs leap off cliffs, thralls refuse to fight and go on Choose Your Own Adventure journeys. Funcrom has put an incompetent developer on one of the core game mechanics – AI – and given no oversight of their shoddy work.
