Prayers, blessings, the Mummy / Imhotep? The Scorpion king summoning an Oasis? The Jackal Army? Age of gods patch next time?
I hope so
This one doesn’t have much faith in that regard.
Ideally we’d see a revamp in a whole Age since the religions definitely need it. I do hope they focus more on cost/risk vs reward and make the religions a bit more of a choice with consequences. Right now the religion you pick is just the one you get for free, and you can get all of them within a half hour of starting a new character. Afterwards they have a few small bonuses here and there.
I’d like to see something where when you pick a religion (and maybe even not allow characters to start with a single one), you can’t partake in another unless you do something substantial to renounce the one you chose. This way characters can’t simply benefit from all at once.
But I’d even take it a bit further and make it so that the exclusive zones around altars is large enough that clans can’t reliably have all altars at the ready and maybe even restrict clans to one religion entirely.
The bonuses would of course compensate for such restrictions and upkeeps that would go with.
Polytheism is very much a thing, but i would think that generally speaking Mitra and most other religions would clash.
Other than that… Set, Derketo, Jhebbal Sag… i could very well see a culture and even one person worshipping all of these. Heck if we had more religions there would be many more i could pile on, like Sobek and maybe even Asura.
That said, i personally do 1 or 2 at most per character and do support the idea of a pledge of fealty of sorts. Maybe a pact or spiritual tie with a god that can only be removed similarly to how corrupted attributes are gained and removed.
From a lore standpoint, there isn’t any culture our characters belong to. We’re exiles. And in the Exiled Lands, you can see that each group has a singular god they wish to ‘follow’. Of course I say that in quotes because everyone is just trying to weaponize them.
A religion system revamp would look like or even tie into the sorcery system. Something darker and nastier than what you see in civilized lands. Even Mitra followers would likely be trying to spread his will in nasty and violent ways.
Outside the exiled lands, cults are kept in check by civilization and order. But in the exiled lands, you would see a much nastier version. Even the Set Worshippers of Stygia would find likely find Set Exiles to be too extreme and even an abomination.
This one can’t even be mad.
James Earl Jones is always relevant.
This one does agree they are in bad need of attention and that some weight to the choice would be appreciated.
But are they coming in the next patch?
No.
The next Chapter?
Probably not, Companions seem to be the high investment focus of this Age.
Unless one of those Companions is a priest…
