I have two sources of lore here for you Tuffman. During this post I will also answer @Sir.Henry.Vale question as to whether or not Crom has any rival gods in Conan lore.
Crom is known to hurl Star Metal Meteorites at his enemies Ymir and his Frost Giant children in battles…AND a group of Cimmerians who were foolish enough to ask him for direct aid during one of those battles. Here is a shortened version of the incident:
Crom destroyed the majority of the Cimmerian village of clan Lacheish. One of the clan made the fatal mistake of praying to Crom; to make matters worse it was while Crom was doing battle with Ymir, who is a bitter rival of his. Not happy to be disturbed by the feeble whimpers of a mortal, from the top of his mountain, he reached up into the black void amongst the stars, grabbed a rock, and hurled it at the man, sending a flaming ball of rock and molten metal into their village, killing nearly everyone.~Age of Conan.
*Note-another member posted a full version of this event in another thread. I would very, VERY strongly recommend that you and other members have a read, as it is extremely interesting. Heres the Link.
Star Metal is also commonly referred to as ‘Cimmerian blue steel’ throughout, which only Cimmerian blacksmiths posess the skill to work.
~Age of Conan.
Star Metal is also percieved by the Cimmerians as a gift sent by Crom, who also believes in the freedom of man. ~Conan the Adventurer.
There you are gentlemen. I am happy to regale you with more Crom lore if you would like. It is a specialty of mine.
Thanks Twitchy, I had a suspicion that you guys would like that one, hence the summons. Yeah that could make for a good catalyst to draw his scornful attention.
Exactly! Depending how the monster(s) were designed, there is so much potential here. One could: use its bones, talons and teeth to forge new weapons, use its hide to build some armor, use its blood or bonemeal with hardened steel, star metal bars, to craft a new metal variant or with some hardened brick to create a new heavy duty Forge. Heck, depending on its size, you could even turn its skull or ribcage into a forge.
Agree. If doing what we have just described doesnt constitute “slaying and striving” then I dont know what does.
Thanks for the support old friend, I appreciate it. And I agree with that feeling. If Crom send something biological after us, it had the potential to be harvested to create powerful weapons. No that I think more about it, it is the same principle as The Kinscourge or The Abyssmal Remnant. Turn their body parts into powerful weapons!
No my friend that was not Crom, that was a far more vindictive and mischevous god, known as ‘Murphy’. This god has his own ever tormenting ‘Law’ which he endlessly enforces, often at the worst possible times. Under this gods law; if something can go wrong it will, and it usually does.
Now that you mention it, I think youre on the money there.
Not a bad idea. Even better if we can use use some of the religion offerings artifacts. Another pne owrth considering is using animals as sacrifices. Probably sounds a little dull by comparison, there is lore to support Crom accepting animal sacrifice. Conan has made such sacrifices to Crom, but only twice in his life! I could see him get angry if it happened too frequently.
As I explained to Twitchy, theres a lot of potential for crafting using their harvested parts too.
Agree. And using the body parts of powerful enemies to create new and powerful weapons and armor is already in the game. Oh the potential possibilities.
