Ugly Kid Joe’s cover of “Cat’s in the Cradle” is the first version of that song that I ever heard, back when I was a teenager and my English language skills just weren’t good enough to understand some of the lyrics, let alone the meaning behind the lyrics.
Many years later, after my wife and I had our kid, I discovered a YouTube video of a live performance of the original, with Hary Chapin giving a little intro before singing the song:
It has stayed with me ever since and I play it to myself at least once a year, to make sure I never forget what’s important.
