Share your experience of pvp fight in real situation of raiding in Age of war

I played a lot to beta, but due to configuration of pvp server on beta live, it’s was not possible to test fight in raiding system for real (so i only explored pve content in fact)

with the release of aow live, i had my first real experience at last pvp time of the new combat system on official pvp server.

4 guys that came to raid me (no thralls), i was solo (and no thralls). when i logged, bombing was in progress and base already open, so i had no opportunity to re stat my toon. i was half corrupted, build full agility, health, encumbrance, double jump, glutton. i was only able to get a pair of feroxic daggers, some healing, and 2 pieces of light health armor. and 10 sec after logging i was already engaging them.

in past in this configuration, i would say that i would have no opportunity to survive, i would have engaged many time naked with trash weapon but would have been killed quickly due to the fact outnumbered and not able to escape against 4 players.

My opponents were not good at fight for sure, and i probably took benefit to have played a lot beta and so knowing to manage attack timing, dodging, and stam regen time before attacking again.

well even if they were full geared, and 2 using bow with explosive arrow, i was able to give them a tough fight and bad experience . i managed to kill 2 of them, was able to escape them all the time due to good timing, fight had continued for about 30-40 mn. they were not able to get me (due to good use of roll and double jump), and luckily at a moment I killed the guy with bombs (and his teamate were not around) and so i took all and was able to secure the explosive.

experience was really enjoyable on my side. seem that now a solo player has more luck to success to defend its base against attackers that outnumber him if he has experience. i need to experience more fight, and see what it give with more skilled people but so far experience of my first real fight in age of war was a very interesting succesfull base defense (and base was really done for defense, well built for pvp fight)

1vs1 fights last for an hour with all the rolling since you pretty much never run out of stam lol

well i scored 2 kill in 3mn in situation i described (confined space of 6 x 10 foundation on a apex base and a third one 30mn after in open world (it took me 2 mn to kill him, i dodged to reach him, he was archer explo arrow with jill glove). but yes in open world fight would last longer, but as pvp is mainly about raiding (attack or defense and loose your loot or not) i thought it was interesting to give feedback about this kind of situation, where my survivabilty in this situation was linked to the rolling and stam regen

lol, well at least it show you can still kill with time, but if there is lot of obstacles in the confined space, fight is really interesting. in experience i had there was no spear, just dagger, axe (and when the guy try to do a combo with axe, well rest in peace) and bow. so when no spear may be fight is faster :wink: i always hated spear lol.

nobody did a raid to share some experience ? scenario of clan raiding against other clan IE ? or is there other solo player or little clan confirm that this is now easier for them to defend their base when outnumbered or not ? may be i met the worst attacker of conan exiles in my experience, who knows :tongue:

Doesn’t seem too bad in teamfights, but on 1 vs 1 I’d say the experience is not too great sadly. I think they really need to make it so you can’t spam roll when you hit 0 stamina, maybe rework rolling thrust and change the stamina regen delay from 0.1 to like 1 sec to stop people from just running away as you won’t be able to catch someone sprinting away if they release the shift key and they get full stam straight away. Maybe then reduce the stam cost of attacks since the stam regen will be reduced.

Or just reverse it back to the old stamina system which WORKED PERFECTLY FINE.

You can definitely kill people. That’s not the issue imo, the issue is… it’s just extremely not fun, and all the other weapons will suck hardly against spear in 98% of occasions.

that the 2 main point i think ; rolling thrust & spear meta that can keep you infinitely at distance in new system.

and the roll when hit 0 probably another point. but well in situation that i encoutered half corrupted, it is clearly the roll at 0 that allowed me to survive (no last stand, so i had to try avoid all melee damage) and take upper hand in the fight, without that i would have been killed in 15 sec.

This can actually be done in the server settings:

StaminaOnConsumeRegenPause=1.000000
StaminaOnExhaustionRegenPause=5.000000

The first value determines how quickly stamina is used on every consumption that doesn’t go to 0. Around a second allows the fast regen system to do its work, but not to infinitely dodge in quick succession or to attack for that matter. This may need adjustment to 1.5 or 2.0 depending on server connection or the like.

The second value puts a nice punishment on those who overextend themselves. So if someone is rolling too much and still being pressured, they will exhaust themselves. 5 seconds means they cannot attack or dodge. Its high enough that even NPCs can wail on you with near impunity. You have to decide for yourselves if this punishment is too harsh or not. For PVP it could very well be as it will likely mean instant death for anyone who gets exhausted. That might be perfectly fine for some, or too much for others. But I don’t recommend going much lower than 4 seconds.

Right now the values are both 0.1 by default, and that’s not really working. You can attack and dodge indefinitely with that. But you can change these in the serversettings.ini. This works for both PC and Console. It does NOT require a mod.

Couple this with hopefully a change to Rolling Thrust so its not a main way to attack and spam it. And you’ll see some very good PVP fights. Probably need some adjustment to Last Stand as well otherwise the second value above may need to be a tad higher. PVP fights look a little messy right now, but they’re actually pretty close to being great with just a few minor adjustments. Some of which we can do, but Funcom does need to handle the perks themselves. I do believe they will, but I don’t think we’ll see that in a hotfix unfortunately.

For the first time since I started Conan, I dont even wanna fight, killing any experienced player is sooo long and fights are sooo booooring I lost all satisfaction I did try one fight, won it, then uninstalled the game…
Age of war is just bad it feel like someone took a shit in your mouth when you have your balls in a grinder while watching an Adam Sandler movie.

Yes Funcom finaly managed to take ou all the fun in the game.
Even calling it a game seem weird cause games are supposed to entertaining, and Age of War is just wasting time, energy, and electricity in a boring useless activity.

Here’s an other number in 1 day of Age of War, 200 players left the game…
Uninstalled it and left every Conan discord some of them they were in since 2020…

That’s an actually interesting post and gives me hope for the future of this Age of War update. Seems like they don’t need to do any major reworks save perhaps for the 20 agil perk.

I am just hoping that Funcom is taking feedback and actually does some proper balancing this year still…

It’s not often you see a productive discussion around pvp balancing on the forums.
Still, if I were to offer some proper advice to Funcom, it would be for them to look at the stream linked above. Some of those people have spent thousands of hours interacting with the game’s mechanics. Grab a few of those people, get them together and make a proper QA team. Actually test the changes and get feedback. Ask them what they think of the current balance. Then let them test what you think might be the best settings after receiving the feedback and hear what they have to say, then apply the necessary balance fixes. If the goal is to fine-tune the combat, taking feedback from people who have spent thousands of hours into it might make some sense. Unfortunately at the present moment it feels like we are beta testing the game.

Guess we’re back to rolling spam, spear spam. The old combat system was great after the perk change.

Like i don’t mind the nerf to HP across the board on bosses and npcs/thralls. as thralls are doing more damage it seems.

But the stamina changes are a mixed bag. Skill level was lowered if anything for combat. Because i was already so adapt at managing and rolling back when stamina was slower to regen. It’s made me more godlike in combat situations cos now i never run out of stamina.

We should make petition or voting, they should already know, majority of players dont like stamina change.
If we could show them in numbers,
Someone said as of now, there is almost no point in having stamina, could just simply remove it out of the game, would not be much difference…

This one hasn’t found anyone who wants to fight yet.
There was one base that previously had outerwall that included significant Nemedian foundations. That’s gone now.

This one did watch from afar as someone rolled circles around someone else, poking them with what looked like the kingslayer glaive.

It has been terrible. Its nothing but Rolling around, I feel like its become a Sonic game at this point. Im not pleased with it, I dont think ANY of the serious PVP players are enjoying the update.
