Sin vs the ape boss on Isle of Iron Statues

Hey all.

If you have a Sin in Khitai BB blues and epics, how does one go abt offing the ape? A decade ago I c/n get him below 90% IIRC, and now that am back can’t get him below 95%.

He’s immune to all but knockback, the KB pad only works sometimes, I don’t do near enough dmg (daggers are Song of Demise and The Gilded Grave), and he 90%s me every hit, so even healpots ain’t helping, esp once a KB pad d/n do the trick and he slows me.

Is there a timing clue for KB to prevent slows? Is there a pattern for avoiding his attks I’m missing?

I dumped all base points not into run speed but to skulk, so I do run slower w/o Accelerated, but it seems enough until he slows me: I just can’t dps him at all as he 2-shots me.

Any suggestions on timing or other tricks? As noted, and as usual, FC made CC-reliant champs out of luck w/bosses…

EDITed because little portable keyboard I was using failed to register some keypresses and I misread some punctuation keys.

EDIT NOTE ON SOLUTION:

Fear does NOT work on him. Tried it a LOT, and it NEVER worked. If there are specific circumstances under which it lands, I have not found them.

Stun actually DOES sometimes work on him, but NOT always. I played back video and watched him flatly avoid it once (and it did go on CD, so was not just out of shards), but it does land more often than not.

Fear, OtOH, just always fails, at least so far, even when he isn’t casting anything. Casting it only wasted time and shards.

Short answer: Only use the KB pad to interrupt his cast “Unleash Fury”.

Long answer:

  • The pad on the left gives you a healing buff (3% healing every 3 seconds), the one on the right front gives you a damage and mitigation buff (+50 damage mitigation, + Magic Damage Modifier, + 100% Damage Multiplier). Make sure you alsways have both of them running (run over one pad, then quickly over or on the other, fight the boss right there, then circle back when the timer above your name of those two buffs is almost done).
  • The pad on the further right knockbacks the boss.
  • All pads have a cd, of like 15 seconds (?) or so, you can not use one right again after use.
  • Try to avoid to get hit by the cast “Terrorizing Roar”, it has a cone effect to his front (you can see that with full particles). You can either interrupt it with a stun (or kb), or just run out or behind him and avoid the area effect. If you get hit by it, it will fear you, and the fear might make you run across the kb pad, resulting in it beeing on cd if he casts “Unleash Fury” shortly after. You can just sit the cast out and get the fear if you position yourself far enough from the KB pad to not get feared over it, but to be able to reach it in time during “Unleash Fury”.
  • “Unleash Fury” can only be interrupted by the KB pad, no stuns, fears, other KBs work on him during the cast. Getting hit by it will give yourself a slowing buff, and him a damage buff.
  • Bonus Tip: The Island of the Iron Statues has a hard mode you need to trigger while running up to the temple with the statues. For more information see one of the two video guides below.

Guides:
This old one explains the pads but has low qualitiy

This more recent one has way better quality, but does not explain the Unleash Fury=KB pad, because the barb is a well played and geared toon who does not need it

TY.

Yeah, I saw both those vids. Didn’t help as they are seemingly max HP toons that are geared to the sky, while I’m in half blues (which is why I actually need the damn RTs).

Timing on it is gonna be difficult as I can’t rly easily watch him as have to run 99% of the time or he just 2 shots me every time I stop moving.

Stun doesn’t work on him. At least Opportunistic Strike did absolutely nothing.

Only Snap Kick worked (likely because it’s knockback), and I can’t rely on that CD timer vs a beast that takes 90% of my hp in 1 slap.

Sigh.

Every now and then I get a chance to DPS, but it means he is casting, which is always bad. He d/n cast if I don’t DPS, but then I can’t kill him.

Double sigh.

If they let me Fear and Stun him, it would go much smoother.

Thx anyway.

Did you pay carefull attention to always have your damage and healing buff up at the same time? This should allow even a badly geared toon to at least get some combos in once in a while.
If you need to run make sure you still target him, and watch his cast bar. He will stop running and stand still while casting, and you have time to run to the kb pad if needed.
Did you pay attention if he 2 shots you while havong the buff of Unleash Fury, or do even his normal attacks do that? If the later is the case, I think you still have way too less gear to beat him (also, hit rating might be an issue then).

I run around and over those 2 pads every few seconds, so they should always be up.

If I could, I would stay near the KB pad, but he’s on me too fast and normal hits me 90% dn per strike.

I nvr lose target, as there is nothing else to target.

Have nvr even seen his castbar, as he drops me so damned fast, or I am too busy running away in order to give healpot time to regen hp.

I get my Grim Corruption/Miasma Soul Strike off every now and again. If I stay to try Slow Death Strike (and maybe Face Stab) as well, he’ll seemingly be casting and it’s likely game over right there unless I am next to the KB pad and can hop onto it. I pop Lotus Dart whenever I can, while on the run.

Mainly have BB Stalker and Strangler blues, w/Shattered Souls epics for boots and bracers, Bone Loop ring from Yun priests, and Song of Demise and Gilded Grave daggers.

Gear is meh because I rarely ever grouped, even back in the day, as came to game from reading the books, and liked the literary Conan’s mainly solo playstyle, but hanging out w/ppl after, and only occasional small groups for tougher adventures.

Hit Bonus Chance from all gear combined is 474 (13%); I read even 9% bonus was decent, so figured hit chance was good.

Combat Damage Increase rating is 7948, which gives Effect of 217. DPS is 441.2.

Armor rating 3035 which is 13.8% mitigation (Sins have terribad armor).

Health 5715.

I have been avoiding n00b spec (DWW+GB+AoD) in order to get less bad at game, as n00b spec d/n force you to learn how to combo and position properly, but I may need to go back to it, as AoD likely needed to gain at least a few more % damage on him.

Thx again.

Ok, the I am pretty sure we found the issue now.

You need to pay close attention to the buffs of the healing/damage pad above your name, bottom left of the screen. Run over the pads while the Ape is not active / only throwing rocks and get familiar with them.
The buffs will NOT refresh while they are on you. Running over the pads every few seconds does nothing.
The buffs whill NOT refresh if you stand on the pad while the buff runs out. You need to step off and again on the pad to get the new buff.
The left pads buff lasts 21 seconds, the right front pads buff lasts 20 seconds. Knowing this you should run over the left pad when the Ape appears down in your room, sprint over the right pad, fight him there for the duration of the first buff from the left pad (it is the more white buff), start running when that timer is at 1-2 seconds, get the left pads buff, get the right front pads buff, repeat. When he casts Unleash Fury use KB pad, check timers of buffs. That makes sure you are never out of buffs.

The damage pad (right front) also gives you a damage mitigation buff (+50%). My baby demo with base 11.8% mitigation (armor) got up to 55.8% mitigation with the buff. This lowers the hits not by 50%, but more by 2/3 to 1/4 total. You can see this for yourself if you open the attributes wnidow and check the stats befor and while you have the buff running. So having low armor is not an issue in this fight if you use the advantage of the buffs.

Don’t panic. Use pulls to deliberately see the buffs, the mitigation rising, the cds and numbers.

TY again.

Hmm. That will be difficult. I cannot rly look down while fast changes are happening, as I have terrible peripheral awareness and am neurologically wired to not be able to take in small bits of info and just run w/it: I need to maintain contiguous center screen focus or my brain, which is wired heavily for careful large-scale-pattern analysis, completely resets my awareness, and then, whether I want to or not, I will take a half sec doing nothing while getting hit, to reframe the entire scene for context of what is happening, before I am able to act in any situationally-relevent manner (it’s a large part of why I was nvr good at the game, and quit for 10 yrs. That, and the client oft refusing to recognize keypreses even when not on a CD or in an animation: the game has always been buggy af, on multiple PCs and ISPs).

I use the floating hotbars for my skills moved up part way towards ctr screen so I don’t have to look down much to track CDs; they actually clip the top of the buffs, since I can’t move the buff indicators (wish I could move them up towards top) but I still oft have trouble noticing which buffs are up, even on me, tho have def had the buffs on while fighting.

Pads, I basically was just running to avoid dying, is why was on and off them every few secs. If I stop, he drops me, even w/buffs: they don’t rly seem to matter that much. Only respites are when he isn’t hitting, which usu means he’s casting someth right in front of me (the fear, I think). Stopping and fighting after have buffs is maybe a 10 sec total duration combat, leading to a reload and tombstone retrieval.

Will have to work on it.

TY again. You’re the only proper source of info so far on this, as all the old guides seem to be gone.

EDIT: suddenly remembered MY buffs will be top screen; only his buffs and my debuffs wil be down below. Still hard to track his buffs, but mine a bit easier. Oddly, think I subconsciously remembered when playing, as do glance up (easier than down, as tend to focus upper ctr screen for forward focusing targets) at buffs on occasion.

Those buffs mobs and bosses put on you are not at the top of the screen, but on the bottom left above your name.
Watch Webarbarians video, from minute 9 onwords he fights the boss and occasionally refreshes the buffs, healing buff whit-sih, damage/mitigation buff blue with a fugure holding up one arm. He does not reeeeaaallly do a great job keeping them up all the time (because he is geared to the teeth and a good player on his barb), but you get it.
I understand it is not always easy to track those (de)buffs mid fight. It can greatly help if you do not need to look at your combos/abilities cooldowns. Try to find a rotation that you can play without looking at them, because they just fit one after the other without hitting cds.

Using Avatar of Death at just the right times, I can now beat every Rare Trophy boss except the ape, as he still burns me dn too fast, tho AoD helped me get him dn to 62% (and boss of Refuge of Apostate I could always beat, even w/o n00b spec: EZMode instance).

I looked it over after trying again (and again and again and again (etc)) and the ape’s white-hits actually only take 25-30% hp, w/the Fury hits taking 50-90%. Still too fast to deal with. Fury can’t always be stopped, as I have to run away too much to always notice him casting, and CDs on KB pad and Snap Kick not always up or I’m not near the pad in time (as always running).

If I could use other CCs on him, it w/n be a problem, but he has boss immunity to all but KB.

If you don’t have high health, armor, and/or evasion, you don’t have the time needed to execute actions to control him. That’s the main issue, as am dn to 10% in seconds even off white-hits, so it makes threading the needle damn near impossible. Webarbarian was kind enough to reply to my necropost on his 9 yr old vid, but it did not rly add any new data, as he has endless time to handle the ape, since his hp nvr moves, whereas mine disappears in seconds.

Any rate, thx for the intel. I’m gonna have to settle for avg 6 RTs a day, as no one raids on Fury, and everyone else already has max gear (price I pay for being away a decade).

BTW, I sometimes toggle the HUD entirely off, to practice comboing by feel and to unclutter the view, but far too many lag glitches mean things don’t work when they should (AoC has always lagged like an overloaded donkey, no matter where I played/what ISP have had), and at exactly the wrong time, so HUD has to come right back up to see what is available. Thus, I just leave it up for major fights, as have to look at it often.

Heya fellow token farmer!

After reading your posts, here some thoughts:

  1. everything Kantakwa wrote should be enough to kill this boss (no matter the gear)

  2. you can cc the boss (stun, root, knockback, silence). He only is imune to it when he is casting “unleash fury”

  3. if you interrupt his fear cast by kb or stun, you waste less time on your dps buff (from pad). He might cast it again after it, so either interrupt again or run out of its range

    How I do it:

    1. wait till he stops throwing rocks and eventually is coming down
    2. step on heal + damage buff pads and start dpsing it there
    3. use cc on fear and keep on doing dps
    4. step on kb-pad when he casts his fury thing (like mentioned only use for this cast)
    5. renew the buffs by stepping on them pads (they most likey have run out by then. however, keep track of their cd since they only renew when run out)
    6. repeat

WTH?!? Fear/Stun work?!?
I Fear/Stun a lot but it always failed. Maybe I somehow was always casting during his Fury cast?!? Maybe I had tried to hold it until he was casting, to interrupt, but d/n realize only KB at that specific time, tho d/n notice castbars, mostly, as was trying to not get burned dn. Pretty sure I at least tried to stun him at random points to just get him the hell off me a few times.
Will retry. If this works, you are a gaming GOD and will have saved my bacon, as the other CCs will give me time for AoD and Snap Kick to CD (and Stun w/let me combo/Miasma him), and THAT should let me frag him. Bluntly, if I can’t do it w/full CCs and a second AoD rotation available, I’m hopeless, and it’s just my own fault (which is def possible).
TY for the intel! Will try soonest and laugh loudest if it works.

OK.

So, first of all, Heison, thx to your advice, I tried it yet again, and finally killed the @#$%*&6^!!!

THANK YOU.

Took 5G+ worth of potions, and dying 12x, but did it. Only got 2 RTs out of the 5G expenditure, as lost the timer bonus when DCd, but did it.

HOWEVER…

Fear does NOT work on him. Tried it a LOT, and it NEVER worked. If there are specific circumstances under which it lands, I have not found them.

Stun actually DOES sometimes work on him, but NOT always; not sure why it is inconsistent, but that explains why I thought it d/n work. I played back video and watched him flatly avoid it once (and it did go on CD, so was not just out of shards), but it does land more often than not, so TY for advice on that.

Fear, OtOH, just always fails, at least so far, even when he isn’t casting anything. Casting it only wasted time and shards, and that got her killed.

Stun allowed me the uncontested time needed to drop full Miasma rotations on him w/o getting fragged (when it worked), and delayed him enough for pads and abilities (especially AoD) to become available again. This allowed me to re-regen hp w/AoD, FINALLY buying time to burn him down (tho I still needed to mostly run away while stuff was on CD, or he 3-or-4-shotted me).

TY again, tho Fear d/n seem to work. If you can ID specific conditions to land it, please advise. Note that I c/n cast during HIS Fear, as a rule, as have to run too much to not die instantly, even w/Stun and 2 KB sources (pad and Snap Kick), so timing is tricky on it. If I had the tankiness to sit there and just trade w/him, sure, but Sins ain’t tanks, so am either running away or comboing.

You’re welcome. And yeah, fear does not work. What you can try tho is double tab forward for “momentum” to get extra stun when landing physical hits.

Keep trying hard!

Yep. In fact, will also deal a tiiiinnnnnnyyyyyy amt more dmg as, back in the day, I was dumb enough to AA this instead of upping something more important:

Thx again!
