Skip intro movie PLEASE!

Half the time I am not able to skip the intro video! Please make it always skippable!

You can disable them in the ini settings.

Steam\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Config.

Once you open Config folder, look for DefaultGame ini file and open it.
Inside the ini file look for [/Script/MoviePlayer.MoviePlayerSettings]. Once there, change all the + (plus) marks to - (minus) marks. Save the ini file and you will not see any intro cinematics until game updates or you verify game files.

As far as I know the intro just keeps you entertained while game is loading everything + mods.

So once disabled you wait while watching black screen?

He wanted to skip the intros lol. Now he can skip it and watch black screen and find out how intro is not all that bad.

Google “misleading”.

That’s mostly true, but the game loads faster with the black screen than if you watch the video. Once you have seen the video it is no longer entertaining and is now just a waste of time while you wait for the game to finish loading.

Also true, and for a lot of people they would rather stare at a black screen for a couple of seconds rather than sitting through the beginning of a video that they have no intention of watching, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Also, when you’re looking at the black screen you know exactly when the game is loaded without having to do anything else. For lots of people (maybe not for you, which is cool) but for lots of other people they don’t care one tiny bit about the video and they just want to know when the load is done.

Pro tip: it’s not all about you. Tons of people disagree with your opinion.

The black screen is a hundred times better than watching the beginning of the video over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

That’s the big secret. That’s it. Commands that will automatically skip the black screen. " bWaitForMoviesToComplete=False "

The intro video is actually just there to cover up the loading of the games packages (vanilla ones and any mods you have, so the cumulative filesize of your mods will proportionally increase this time).
Most other games would simply display “Loading
” and not let you do anything (which strangely enough I think would make people be way more patient as we’re conditioned to know something’s happening and wait it out).

In any case you can see 3 tiny dots in the bottom left corner, as long as those are displayed the loading sequence is still in progress and you cannot skip the video, once they are gone the video is skippable.

If you were to remove the videos by some means, either by overwriting them with blank files or doing the above config file suggestion, the same thing would still apply, except you would be staring at a black screen while the packages are loaded and only after that would the game progress to the main menu.

Now, that’s the normal functionality
the reason you most likely noticed and said “half the time” is because as of age of heroes there seems to be a bug where this package loading phase sometimes seems to take ridiculously longer than normal, to the point that some users will run out of video to watch and still have to stare at the black screen for 3 minutes, while having the exact same package list that other times loads during the first few seconds of the video.

I am not 100% certain why this is happening, my speculation was that either the loading sequence starts doing extra things requiring to jump back and forth between multiple packages (could be related to the implementation of that new asset search in the first hotfix) - OR it is spiking disk activity severely with other things to the point where the packages cannot be read properly at normal speed.
The reason I suspect one of the above is because I solved it in my case by moving all my mods over to a different drive and making a symlink from the old location so the game can still find them. This makes it so that the game loads from one disk while the mods are loading from another and ever since I did that my loading sequence is back to a fixed amount every single time and it’s done within the first few seconds of the video.

(Ofc one could monitor various things like disk activity, files accessed etc. during this phase and find more evidence towards the above theories, but since I tried the above first and it worked, I didn’t feel like further poking at it  )

Regardless of whether you have the movies or not you are only able to get to the loading screen when this message is displayed within your log file.

Both took 2 secs before I could enter into the loading screen.

The reason for the delays is due to waiting for a response for the realtime from
http://worldtimeapi.org/api/ip.json

alongside the respponse regarding the update for the GameTweaks system available.

You can see this by having the logfile open at the time of the game running using an editor that can reload the logfile from disk at any time.

Ya, I’ll argue that. If you are just watching the black screen it will go right to the game menu, if you’re watching the animation you have to click to skip.

Which is different with any other game how?

While waiting on 7 days to load I get to watch a still frame, game hints, and a % progression.

But I don’t set there and stare at it. I’m here, in a/the discord, watching news or some other video on youtube. Conan loads so much faster.

I don’t get it. I love Razma’s feet. I only don’t get that period blood fetish, but oh well

But seriously, disabling the intro does not make the game load significantly faster, you just get a black screen instead. The intro itself is a loading screen.

Which is related to this conversation how?

This isn’t an exhaustive survey of of game industry practices, it’s a comparison between skipping the video vs. not skipping the video in this one single game, this game. What happens or doesn’t happen in other games is a moot point.

Finding an example that is worse in some other game doesn’t magically invalidate the OP’s complaint in this game. If 7 days also needs to be improved that could be a valid complaint about 7 Days, but it has nothing to do with suggesting an improvement to Conan.

FunCom can’t help you with 7 Days, but they can help their own players with Conan, which is why the OP posted this on the FunCom forums.

“Significantly” is in the eye of the beholder. After about the 100th time it no longer matters how long it takes, it’s still annoying every time.

Beyond that, it requires manual intervention to stop the Conan video, which is an annoyance to many people regardless of how long it takes. This is something that has been coming up on these forums for a long, long time. It shouldn’t be necessary for players to edit config files, there should simply be a checkbox that says something like, “Don’t play the intro video”. Then people who like the video can see it, people who don’t want to see the video don’t have to see it, and everyone could be happy with their individual preferences.

It was an example of how other games handle the load times.
Was it that hard to understand?

I also pointed out things you can do beside set and watch the video waiting on the game to load the 100th time.

There is no comparison, the game takes the same amount of time to load whether you watch or skip the video.

But funcom isn’t helping now are they?

But you do realise that this is not a problem with Conan but it’s just a problem with your preference and/or your sluggish PC?

My server is quite heavy on mods and the video barely reaches Razma’s ankles when I am able to skip, and the CPU is already 3 generations old (12700k).
Do you have a SSD drive?

I understood it perfectly, and it was a red herring. Apparently the concept of a moot point is too hard for you to understand.

What other games do has nothing to do with whether the OP has the right to make a request for this game. Hence
 a moot point.

Something that no one on the planet needs to have pointed out, because it’s amazingly obvious. Breaking news: Deacon wants to inform everyone that water is wet.

Not true, it depends on each individual’s computer. In fairness to you, maybe you’re not aware that your statement untrue because you haven’t experienced it. If that’s the case this is your opportunity to learn more about what happens to other people, people who are not you. The more you know

And
as has already been discussed, there is some value to preventing the video from starting because it’s a silly and unnecessary annoyance. Even if you were right (you’re not, but let’s pretend) that it takes the same amount of time that would still be a moot point. There is still some value to allowing the video to be ignored during startup. It is an annoyance regardless of load times.

Instead of comparing Conan to a bad example, you could have compared it to a good example, which would be any other game that has ever been made that gives players the option of preventing the intro video from coming up in the first place.

Boy you really do love your own pointless arguments.

Typical thread on these forums:
Anyone else in the game: “I have a question, comment, complaint or suggestion.”
Deacon: “I need to reply with bad arguments, red herrings and moot points because I just have to see my own name in as many threads as possible.”

But do you realize that other people’s preferences are none of your business?

If you’re fine with watching the video that’s great, we can all be happy for you that you’re happy. But in no way does that invalidate the right of people with different preferences from asking for an enhancement.

This is a request that we’ve been seeing on these forums since the very beginning of the game, it comes up pretty consistently. This isn’t a one-off request, it’s not unique and it’s not new (in fact it’s a very old topic). Clearly that means that plenty of people have a different preference that you do.

And the thing is, this isn’t an “us or them” request. It’s not like the OP’s request would prevent you from watching the video if you want to. If there was a checkbox in the GUI that allowed the video to be ignored then everyone could have their preferences respected.

Supporting a change that allows everyone to exercise their own preference is a win-win situation, but for some reason you’re acting as though this would cause a problem for you, which it would not. It’s pretty silly that you’re complaining about something that would have zero affect on you.

If the OP’s computer is within the specs that are allowed to run the game, then it’s none of your business whether it’s sluggish or not. Whether the OP plays on a potato or a super computer is a meaningless argument, they still have the right to request having an option to skip a video that lots of people find constantly annoying.

You seem to be confused about what’s happening in this thread. Do you realize that this is a client-side issue and has nothing at all to do with servers?

Do you have a fallacy detector?

Doesn’t seem so.

:man_facepalming:
I meant on that individuals PC, I apologize for assuming the obviousness of that. My bad.

Please tell me how the game takes less time to load by not having the loading video.
This ought to be good.

I do so apologize for assuming you’d realize my example of what games to cover their load times rather then run a video. I’m sure other games give you the option of skipping loading videos, but I honestly don’t think they give you the option of skipping loading the game.

No matter what is used to fill the loading time of any game, you are going to have to wait for the game to load. And the game will finish loading when the game is done loading.

So you do not know what “typical” means, gottcha.

Yes, and how many time is it brought up because people thought the loading video was why the game took so long to get in to.

And I will hit that nail again,

removing the loading video is not going to reduce your load times.

But that would just end up with “long load times” thread replacing the “how do I skip the video” threads.
IMO people are not complaining about the video they are complaining about the load time and blaming the video.

Which people?
YOU are not lots of people.
