I wouldn’t expect it to be fixed in a day. What I would have expected is after initial reports > communication with what I would hope is a reasonable timeline with reassurances > keep up to date on progress and adjust.
There are multiple variances happening:
• falling through base/mesh upon login/respawn and have to wait until it rights itself before interacting, kind of weird to be able to climb around under the mesh and not die or not use anything interactive
• entire server falls through base when someone else logs in and similar to above
• fall through building pieces upon login, respawn or simply playing and it not righting itself, rendering the character in that place/stuck
There might be even more and it is really hard to pinpoint exactly why they’re happening. I’m not making excuses, just imagining. But 10 months since it started, 5 months since the 3rd presented itself, inexcusable with only 1 or 2 mentions by staff. I think it’s due to a combination of tavern system and integrity of the building system but I am no expert, only drawing from observation and deductive reasoning.
What I cannot understand was the reasoning for it. What they tend to do is update small parts of systems before an overhaul sometimes up to a year ahead of time. They don’t tell us they’re doing it, why or when the reasoning is revealed. They also change their minds on direction, like with the pets - still no word as to when the pet overhaul will be implemented.
All of this is why a roadmap is so important. It doesn’t need to contain every plan and decision ahead, summarized and clarification that it might change in the future. Right now we’re blind and no idea what their intentions are with AoH except for vague references to making the settlement more “RP”.
About a month+ ago my son bought his own console. I was happy that i will finally play with him all the games, it was something i wanted to do literally years now, but priorities were always in front.
So for about 15 years now we shared console.
My point however is that i was buying everything in his account, all the games and all the psn benefits. My account was the secondary always.
Yet with his console all the games from mine went locked. So i paid about 180 Euro to buy back everything on this game. Do I regret it?
No way! I did it in a heartbeat, of course after i had a fast chat with my wife, no matter it’s me the one who “provides” in the house the money is ours not mine only.
The reason is simple DeaconElie m8, every midday i return home. I take a shower, i eat whatever my wonderful wife cooked, i take my coffee and start my console, but not before i log in here to see my pals!
So discount or not, this game has a role in our everyday life, both in console and forum.
I know that you know what I’m getting at here, but perhaps what I should have said that they ought to have acknowledged the issue immediately and moved to have it fixed as quickly as possible. I know based on your lengthy and accurate response that you understand that the real issue is Funcom’s failure to prioritize a fix. It’s actually refreshing to see posts like yours from someone that understands. Cheers.
They way they go about doing things is almost like they’re being hateful toward their customers, right?
What I usually find the most painful in this process is when the reasoning is revealed and it’s faulty, like when they decided to remove precise stack splitting and Douthett explained that they didn’t think the players used it because some of the devs that play don’t use it. I used it constantly every time I played, so did all people I know who play CE… just shows how disconnected the dev team is from the players like me who have been around since early access. At least they put it back in, but it took them way too long to revert that change. That absolutely should have been a day one fix.
(giant sigh) I just want the game to go back to being fun to play, and for me it just isn’t anymore…
100% agree. This is a multiplayer issue in general and while there’s been some comments from private server players about the success of removing barkeep/taverns, that is a FEATURE they released which was largely well received. Being a part of the game as it is offered means that we should be able to use it without such an enormous caveat - IF it is the cause.
It feels like it but I don’t think it’s that. I believe that there are good intentions however not necessarily in line with player expectations. I also believe that lack of budget and monetary goals play a part.
Now these are my musings based on assumption and deduction. Not facts. Despite my heavy criticism over the years they’re still people and they do as much as they’re able. Regardless, it is becoming clearer and clearer to me, looks like yourself as you say that they’re disconnected, and many others that my vision of the game as I first was introduced to it does not align with the studio.
That is to their detriment. They can’t ride the whale wave forever as those will also eventually leave.
Hell, there’s an ongoing trend of BLB screenshots on Reddit so that players don’t have to log in at all to see the offerings.
I keep trying to reconnect to it. Yet I keep being slapped in the face. So disappointing.
Very. As I mentioned above the UI overhaul was the last straw for me and also for a friend of mine. We both put a lot of hours into the game and have owned it for a very long time, it’s sad to see it get so bad that we have both walked away from it. I may end up using the SteamDB and Steam console to install the version I prefer but it would be nice if I didn’t have to…
