It is as you say. But here we are using the word “race” too tightly. What the character creation should say ( to be more accurate) is “preset” instead of “race” because that is what this is: a character customization preset. Instead of calling it preset 1, for example, it is called Hyborian. But since Hyborian is not data carried past character creation into the game, it is not integral to the character. It is not a race but a preset.
If race is just a preset, then none of these recommendations is possible because the character does not carry a tag (handle) that can be called by the game related to race. If race is a handle, then a modder can build a mod to customize how the game reacts to your choice of race.
If this is true, then my concern vain. I would like this option very much. But i would have opened for the player the armor of the race he chose. If the player wants another armor, better let him look for slaves or players.
Let’s see when will be release.
Limitation craft with race or religion is limitation in therm of gameplay AND roleplay, you can want play a metis, having an odd religious belief (in real life some peoples believes crazy things, you can imagine a man who is convinced the real way is to reconcile Set and Mitra, and pray twice gods, why not after all, we have crazier religious beliefs in real.) Don’t have habilites crafting other cultures items at all is nonsens, nothing at all can constrain to not do it…It’s like essentialism, don’t work in RP or real life. Have too much constraints in terms of crafetable items is a bad design for a sandbox game. And the annonced advantages in terme of RP don’t work if we think 5 minutes.
you get it all wrong… it is not about to restrict players to have only few kinds of armors , weapons or something… you would be able to craft armor of your culture by your self, you can learn it from feats and if you wanna craft items of other culture you need to learn it from some npc, blueprint or simply have a thrall for it… this is how it usually works in real life as well… right…?
not necessary. “man at arms” people reproduce lot of things just with visual. Best artisans can remake what they want by theirself. And in contrary a non-artisan people coundn’t make any weapon/armor, even armors and weapon used by his culture. capability to make somethink is not determined by where you come. it’s an essentialist thinking…
indeed, so every exile is master artisan, that is why we can craft everything and worship every god. Because we are all too much clever for Hyboria and that is the reason why we were exiled. I dont mind to be able to c raft anything, but some items should be really hidden… like climbing gear, Dredge armor set or 100% only legendary thrall covered items… or even make us pick what we would like to master… armors, weapons or alchemy? But ofc single player ppl would cry like s**t
SET LAND CLAIM RADIUS TO 0.3
It was mentioned that there would not be Purge south of the main river. This means it is safe to build your primary base south of the main river. There will be a lot of players trying to do that. The land claim radius multiplier in Live is currently set at 0.5. It is 1.0 in test live. If it were set at 0.3, the south side of the main river could be built up like a close, cozy townhouse city and the resources on the north side of river would be preserved.
The outposts for harvesting would have to be relatively small and eventually built out of T3 material surrounded by palisades. A 0.3 land claim radius would increase the protection of the iron and coal resource nodes from building encrochment, particularly at the Summoning location.
I do not see any benefit to the game itself in providing races with special bonuses. That will end like in most games. All fighters choose the “Cimmerian” for the extra +20 HP, all thiefs choose the Zingarian for extra +20 stealthing…whatever.
I would prefer - beside to choose form MORE races - to have some more racial / cultural adaptability like tattoos, jewelry, hair and beard. For example only Nemedians can choose a red Dragon as tattoo because of their history.
The character customization is not enough these days.
I guess this is something that’ll be expanded on in the future, after launch.
But something I’d like to see as well.
It really grinds my gears is that there is Vanir warpaint, but none for Aesir. The now Ymir related armor even was called Vanir armor at some point. Why do Aesir get ignored that much? Maybe I missed something.
