I came across the information by chance that there will be another Conan film with Mr. Schwarzenegger in the lead role in 2025/26. This time at a correspondingly mature age and as the self-doubting King of Aquilonia - so content from Phoenix on the Sword, The Hour of the Dragon and The Scarlet Citadel will probably be used in the film … I’m just guessing now, of course I don’t know.
At the same time, I’m irritated because I discovered mostly German language sources and sources in Latin American languages - but almost nothing in English.
Do any of you know more about this? Is all of this ultimately still non-binding? Maybe kind of fake?
Last I read was that it wasn’t happening, much to Arnie’s disappointment.
That said, given the success of the DP & Wolverine movie and the upcoming Gladiator 2, there might be a spark worth kindling with regards to a more violent sword and sandals movie, definitely a niche that a new Conan could fill.
as far as I know there is a problem with the rights to the film , arnold & others want to make the film but the company that made the film with jason won’t sell them
Well, he was paid 250k for Conan the Barbarian back in 1982. That’s roughly 815k in today’s money, so Funcom are gonna have to sell a ton of cat statues, star gazer sets and hammocks
The first motion picture from 1982 was a totally colorful mix of content from different stories that were completely taken out of context and thrown together wildly:
Valeria was included, but was no longer a pirate bride and was introduced in a scene that takes place on the Elephant’s Tower alludes to - without the Elephant’s Tower appearing.
The crucifixion from A Witch Will Be Born appears superficially, although it has a different background in the novel than in John Milius’ film … But luckily Funcom actually quotes Conan in the intro of Conan Exiles and lets him say that, which he also says in A Witch Will Be Born: “You civilized men are soft. Your lives are not nailed to your spines as are ours.”
If the film really gets made and we finally see Arnie in this movie role …
… then I wouldn’t be surprised that one or more children of his own are placed alongside him in the film and that the topic of generational conflict is perhaps discussed.

Here it is shown how the successful assassination attempt on King Osric of Zamora was filmed, but was ultimately cut out of the film.
I think this is also a reference to one of the stories from the Conan universe, in which a young Conan was framed for the murdering of King of Zamora. If I remember correctly, that wasn’t even one of Robert Ervin Howard’s Conan stories - but another snippet from the seemingly inexhaustible pool of many Conan the Cimmerian stories.
They can’t find a studio. Many places don’t want to touch something like Conan because of toxic masculinity. The Netflix series was cancelled for this reason. Another concern studios likely have is the lackluster performance of Arnold’s films since he returned from politics. Last, but not least Arnold is old now. Not just a little old, but eat dinner at 4pm and be in bed by 6 old. I don’t think he could pull off the lead in the kind of action movie everyone would expect. 10 years ago he could have done it, but the boat has sailed.
The only way Arnie could return to the role in my opinion is if he voiced the character in an animated production.
If anything os ever done, i hope the writers from Vikings. To me they had a good feel forndrama, grit, and the scale of battle. It doesnt have to be a direct adaptation of the stories if they can keep the heart pf them in a new story. I always pictured Heirs of Conan. He spread hos seed. Be fun to have multiple siblings vying for his favor and throne.
Another Conan movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger would be great.
Age might be a concern, but clever writing, CGi and all that movie magic could make a lot of things happen.
One might, for example, use Schwarzenegger’s King Conan as a story teller, spinning tales of how he won his kingdom. One might even use another actor for the flashback scenes if he looks similar enough. And heck, maybe Conan’s memory isn’t that great anymore and his stories deviate a bit from other people’s reality, including how he looked.
As for commercial success… Personally, I’d welcome a return to the relatively low budget films of old. It doesn’t require a thousand extras, a digital dragon and an ensemble cast of ten famous people to make a great movie.
Keep it small, keep it simple.
Toxic masculinity… yeah, the old stories would be hard for many people to stomach. But some rather, uhm, tough movies were made and didn’t provoke any criticism, so maybe some courage would be rewarded.
Anyhow, a third Schwarzenegger Conan movie would continue the stories of movie Conan, not book Conan. And movie Conan is not a friend of camels, but not a murderous ■■■■■■ like book Conan can be seen as.
I hope Arnie knows when it’s time to leave.
In several of his last movies he was barely moving.
And things he speaks on social media… it’s clearly dementia.
