Film or series to watch for Conan Exiles fans?

I’ve obviously watched Conan movies to death (even the crapy one from 2011). I was wandering if someone have any recomendations outside of those of movies or series similar in feel and context to Conan Exiles (primitive people, surviving, similar landscape, violent, tribal, sword and sorcery, maybe set in something like Africa).

So far the only thing that comes to mind is Valhalla Rising (very brutal and enigmatic Danish film), 1982 Fire & Ice (Frazzetta and Bakshi… what a combo… I’ve seen this movie so many times that my wife is worried) and maybe Quest for Fire (My favorite movie about cave men)…

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • History Channel’s “Vikings” TV Series. It’s on it’s 5th season with a 6th confirmed. Historical Fiction, no Sorcery though. One of the best TV series I’ve ever seen in terms of Historical Fiction. In terms of quality, it’s up there with GoT. It’s that good.

  • The Last Kingdom. Not as great as Vikings, same era…(Vikings just now caught up to the era of when The Last Kingdom takes place). Worth watching though for some fun. 3 Seasons, I haven’t seen the 3rd one yet so I haven’t looked up to see if there is a 4th planned. Historical Fiction again.

  • Britannia - This one is much newer, only 1 season with a 2nd on the way. Historical Fiction about the early Britannia days and Roman conquest, elements of Sorcery. Amazon Prime

The Last Kingdom is also a ‘Viking-saga’ taking place around Wessex and Mercia (British Isles).

If you want something Bronze age or earlier, there’s Troy and even 10,000 B.C.

Red Sonja (1985).
Krull (1983) and Kull the Conquerer (1997)
The Scorpion King (2002) - I think there are II, III, IV, and V to this one.
The Beastmaster (1982)
Clash of the Titans (1981)
Jason and the Argonauts (1963, 2000)

That might give you some options to explore further (as no doubt, once you start looking at some of these movie webpages, there’ll be links to many, many more).

If you’re looking for something comedy, yet still pretty brutal, Norsemen is a great series.

Deathstalker for some classic b grade barbarian fun.
The first one at least was pretty good, the other 3 not so much although they had ample boobage in the form of Monique Gabrielle and Maria Ford, 2 of my favorite thespians of the 80’s.

And while set in Edo Japan, Ninja scroll is a rogue swordsman epic, and the Lone Wolf and Cub movies are great.

Best show ever! I vote for an “Installation” DLC, with special guest appearance from Rufus of Rome to oversee the construction and of course advocating for Thrall rights!

Thanks, I’ve seen Vikings up to season 3 or something, it’s pretty cool! Gonna check out the other 2

Kull the Conquerer with Kevin Sorvo :stuck_out_tongue: it’s pretty 90s.

I’ve already watch this batch, but thanks anyway

I’ll check this out. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions, gonna check some of these out. Also I found a 90s live action Conan series, looks kind of cheap but I’ll give it a try.

Also on the exploration/slavery/survival I think Apocalypto from Mel Gibson is on the spot. It could very well be set in the Conan Universe.

If you can get your hands on conan the adventurer, a tv show from the 90s, its pretty fun lol. Otherwise I think just about everything has been mentioned. I’d recommend the Dark Horse graphic novels that retell the original stories in a chronological order

It’s dreadful! I bought the DVD set once, I got halfway through episode 2 I think, then I had to bin the whole thing. Which is rare for me, I’m old enough that I still have a physical movie collection.

Yes, Kull the Conquerer was supposed to be based on Conan’s father. And yes, its late 90s.
