The new player experience on official PvP servers is miserable with so much hacking

Story time: How myself and 7 other new players went from loving this game to all actively quitting.

**Background: **

My friendship group of 8 (including myself) started playing Conan on the release of 3.0, we started first on local co-op and as the group grew, we moved to a private server I hosted locally; however, we were missing something the thrill of fighting other players in the wild, so we discussed trying it out despite being still pretty new.

Start this off by saying, that I am all for PvP and losing gear/bases is what the mode is all about.

A few of our group started on an official server in PvP and if they liked it, we were going to join in a couple of days, they played for two days before quitting and telling us how they witnessed someone multiple times stealing thralls out of their locked base straight in front of them, they quit and then there was 6 of us.

I naively suggested it might of been some way they build that let the person in and this time we all roll on a new highly populated (for OCE that is 17/40) PvP server and we had a good time, we were warned by the ā€œAlpha clanā€™ that hackers like to visit this server but we assumed they were joking or trying to scare us off, so after 3 weeks of time in there losing bases, fighting in PvP and raiding others generally having a great time it happened, I (and other in my clan) witnessed our first what I assume was a ā€˜Hackā€™ bombs being pushed through solid foundations and walls and players being inside our base without breaking doors or walls or ceiling, we were still relatively new so I couldnā€™t be 100% sure there was some mechanic I was missing or something we missed so we left the server without reporting it, the server soon emptied out after players lost motivation and we also decided to leave.

We were dejected and we couldnā€™t really believe our eyes really, another 3 players quit, and we were down to 3 players left. So, we got together as a group suggested we try another server we still really wanted to PvP with other players, and we had one choice of server left on OCE that is official, so our only option this time we picked a server with a very low population.

This was just before Christmas, and it was very quiet on the server, but we assumed it was the holidays and thought nothing of it.

**Fast forward to tonight: **

We were (Iā€™m certain this time) hacked again and now 7 out of our group of 8 has quit the game, with myself trying to figure out a reason to keep playing and to be honest I canā€™t.

We built in the Crevice (I know now pretty cringe, but we were new, and it looked like a safe location after looking at a few spots) we had a minimum of 6 thick exterior walls on all three entrances (thicker on another side), no gaps at all.

Within 7 minutes of the raid window opening our base was gutted but only the inside, not a single exterior wall, door, ceiling, or foundation tile struck, not a single guarding thrall killed (not even the unlevelled animals that would die in a single hit)

Purely our crafting tables destroyed, and every single chest exploded, not a single other building tile touched outside of what was needed to get to crates.

I took a video of our base straight after the hack, but I canā€™t link it here, there is 0 evidence of a wall even damaged let alone broken.

How do I find the motivation to keep going, losing in a fair fight is fine and enjoyable, the 2nd server our group visited was a great time playing, in fact we lost our base twice in those 3 weeks to fair raids, so we were thrilled, then this happened and well all the fun is gone, how do you keep playing a game that you feel cheated in.
What happens in these scenarios?

Are items restored (I feel like that is doubtful)?
Is there anything that can happen to the hackers?

In the space of 2 months we were hacked I can be certain now 2 times and my friends other base a 3rd time, I just donā€™t get it, from our new player experience it seems so common and it feels like a great way to destroy player retention.

Be careful ā€¦ It is possible to jump above anti climb with double jump perk or to fly with the bat.

And ā€¦ It is possible to enter your base when you leave before the doors closed. Then hide inside the base, and loot or raid from inside later. Escape with midnight potion or sorcery recover corpse spell. No hacking there, just clever :sunglasses:

I doubt anyone can hide in your base without making guards nervous. Itā€™s possible, but a ā€œghost modeā€ hack is more possible.

Possible outside raid time, the guards will not move. Then disconnect in raid time, and they will not attack an offline player. Very fun to do ā€¦ Always close doors behind you and sleep naked with you loot and thralls in locked chests!!!

Yepā€¦then there is the torpor spawn raidā€¦someone logging off in a prime zone (like crevice) with full raid kit on and pops in months later to raid whoever was built there.

 one more lock will do it? I donā€™t even bother to lock them anymore if unlocked. Saves lots of time between those that just want to steal and those who want to blow it all up when done raiding. Path of least resistance leads toā€¦

When i was playing alone pvp, i use to fix normal houses with unlocked chests. The only thing that was destroyed was my door, some thralls dead (not always) and my bed with me wake up in the desert of curse!
Playing this way everyone had the idea that i am easy target and thatā€™s all i have. So they didnā€™t use bombs in my house . Of course i was never stealing or raiding so naturally i had no opponents except the ones who were attacking first. But if they were ā€œeasyā€, i could see it from their first hits and i was trying to show that i donā€™t want to fight them. If they didnā€™t understand and i couldnā€™t avoid, then i was leaving some gifts to their corpse!
But yes i donā€™t strategically believe in locked chests too, yet when i participate in a clan then i had to do what the plurality wanted and the chests were locked.
Butā€¦
I loved privates with super crafting speed for one reasonā€¦
You cannot imagine how beautiful it is to see people bombing for hours your vaults full ofā€¦ dunk :rofl::rofl:.

There is a vaste amount of tricks that players can do, But there is also a vaste amount of just plain aim bot junkie cheating going on too. Its super shame. The more you know, the more you can see it and itā€™s depressing to see such a good game plagued with bs.

Yup, after getting an education the hard way about mechanics } what is an isnā€™t an exploit } then a realization of what hacks really areā€¦ Itā€™s discouraging.

Especially for the ones who have these things available to them like everyone else but still donā€™t.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

OP, while it is possible that as suggested you may have been the victim of a crafty ninja it is also entirely possible it is a hacker.

Itā€™s a hard lesson learned by those crafty enough and absolutely do as Selene suggested. But as for hackers there is no safety mechanism or well prepared precautions available.

You can look for where theyā€™re hiding if you want to take revenge. Raid and loot your stuff back.

The only successful ways Iā€™ve seen hackers dealt with is: an entire server bands together to overwhelm them, they get bored or humiliated or you report them - suspended/banned.

Eventually Funcom deals with the hacks. But it can be anywhere from weeks to months. This round has been pretty bad and there are hackers seemingly on every server, especially populated.

Hackers are just a meat shield for crackers.
