I pretty much know a company needs more than hundreds of millions, I just got confused. I live in Hungary, and a true billion is 10^12, while the commonly used billion in english (milliard) is “only” 10^9, which is a HUGE difference, and a true billion would be extremely huge amount of money even for a big(ger) game company. But yeah, even with 10^9 dollar (heck even with our own currency the mighty forint, which skydives with lightspeed to oblivion - currently 1 USD is 415 HUF) I would be happy for the rest of my life. For a company like Funcom or Tencent this is basically the pocket money category, you are correct.
Sorry for derailing the topic with my confusionesness ![]()
Keep on doubling down. None of your cute little pokes have anything to do with the onus of my discussion point with you - that you made a wild claim out of your ass and instead of just saying “you’re right I don’t have data to back that up - its just how I feel” or something - you double down.
None of the games I’ve developed have micro transactions. Try to keep to the point of this little side debate. Calling you out for belching out a statement of fact that has no basis in reality has nothing to do with games I’ve developed, or my own opinion of micro transactions - none of which I have put forth here to you to actually comment on.
Thats that sweet strawman attack again though ![]()
I can do this all day. The more people like you run amuk running your mouth about facts that aren’t facts, the more disinformation and garbage our society becomes.
Let me introduce you to what burden of proof is:
Burden of proof (philosophy) - Wikipedia.
For those too lazy:
You just basically stated that one can spew any garbage out of one’s mouth and it is the responsibility of other people to have facts that debunk it. You could say “well I saw that person over there commit this crime” and that person now has to have proof that they didn’t… under XninjaPIX rule of debate.
Wow what a world that must be! But now I understand how you can so freely make ridiculous claims the way that you do - you feel that it is up to someone else to prove you wrong which you know there are no articles out there to do so - so you feel safe to just say whatever as a statement of fact.
Why don’t you just say “yeah I said the DLCs made funcom millions and so therefore their price point for the old DLCs is good, but I have no real data to back that up?” Why is that part so so difficult for you?
I can tell you right now that if I ever assert something as a fact that I will have some kind of evidence to back it up, and if my evidence turns out to be wrong I’m the first to say “well shit, I guess my data was wrong”.
I can’t “prove you wrong” because there are no financial statements released detailing what Funcom made off of the DLCs, let alone if that is what “saved them” as you asserted. Thats the point. You can’t say “well you can’t prove that they DIDNT make millions of dollars from the DLC” as your counter argument.
“She’s a witch!” “How can you tell?” “Well look at her nose! She can’t PROVE she’s not a witch anyway so shes a witch!”
I’m pretty sure you are mistaken.
Yes, it is a way to increase revenues from the weak willed.
Until the Sandstone Set I became available, I did not believe that included me. I just viewed the Battle Pass as a $10 DLC and was fine.
Now, here I am spending money, because of the aforementioned weak will for building.
Gratitude for the clarification.
False cognates between languages/cultures are always such a headache.
$66.7m gross profits.
Ok so i know a certain person will say the following.
But that only shows Gross profits, it doesn’t mention DLC.
Well it does prove that Funcom are operating in the millions rather than the tiny company that you used to work for. And no, this is not the evidence that i based my original claim on.
It would not be unreasonable to make an extremely conservative estimate that at least 5% of the gross ($3.335m) would have been the result of DLC’s. If not then why would they have invested so much time and effort into them. Surely they would have been better just making a different game!
Now let me tell you something about debating skills. Firstly you don’t jump in feet first by calling someone a liar, which you did and continue to do. Where is your proof that i am a liar? or that i just wasn’t able to provide you with proof? as you admitted yourself you don’t have any. This approach is childish and this could be called defamation of character or libel.
How you could have responded like an adult is as follows. “please could you provide further evidence to back up your claim as i am not convinced that you are correct” now doesn’t that sound nicer ![]()
Also lets say even if i was totally wrong which i wasn’t but lets say that i was then that does not make anything you say true as you keep trying to imply.
And no i didn’t say that i could spew any garbage as truth. I made a claim, you made a counter claim. You asked for evidence which i at least attempted to provide, you did not even try to back yourself up because you feel that you are like some sort of God like entity that is right about everything.
Lets say that once upon a time someone living in the desert said that they didn’t have W of MD. Now using your philosophy they would have to prove that they didn’t and no one would have to prove that they did. Some how i do not think that, that would be a good idea.
Ok go on then entertain us, what low budget games did you work on?
This thread just spent the last 2 weeks as armchair economists having a slap fight. What is ironic is many of you claim Funcom doesn’t listen to your feedback.
The feedback:

We got actual polls (what people think about bazaar prices) so… general public opinion is unshaken - prices are too high…
BTW almost no1 complain about Battle pass price… 10 usd is very reasonable.
So pls do not mix BZ and BP, very different issues.
