I just don’t get the idea behind these changes. How are they supposed to make the gameplay interesting? All that has happened is that now i have many thralls and tavern patrons either just standing in the way or walking around opening doors for everyone to walk in. I can’t use my terrace bar since i have to disable thrall use from every seating so my workers wouldn’t constantly go there and that means the patrons won’t use them either.
And the patrons managed their way inside without opening doors before so why not now? Obviously this is completely useless in PvP unless you build the tavern far away from your base and seal all of your workers in a room without a door but that defeats the whole idea. Well, PvP is a joke anyways so why would Funcom care.
There’s a simple solution. Adding a disable/enable thrall use function on doors would give us control over the thrall movement. No need to rebuild your base for elevators as Funcom suggested or that weird tip about some pool thing. Just say what you mean without throwing around confusing hints that only a handful might know.
Of course there are now more issues to deal with so the older bugs get once again overseen. Just as it was with the inventory mess, no need to fiddle with it and when they did they only created more issues. You have turned this into a roleplaying build simulator so at least fix the building issues at some point.
The new thralls, then. The harrypotter one was fairly simple to get but will i ever take him out with me when i need a fighter? No. I don’t want to wait around for him to fart out the hologram, i’ll just take care of the enemies myself while that’s happening.
Freya. Yeah… The whole process was dragged out for way too long seeing that as a fighter she is nothing special, i have my bases full of better ones. To go through all of that just to get a mediocre follower is pointless. When the ridiculous thrall merchants return it once again takes 20 minutes to get Dalinsia for example so why would anyone bother going through days of boring missions to get the new Freya?
And this is the biggest problem at the moment in my opinion. Everything is simply handed out to you so there’s no need to play. You can run straight from the desert to the fortress and get yourself explosives, weapons and rams. You loot a few chests and you have tons of materials and gear. You can knock out the best fighters with few hits and have them broken in an hour. This is nonsense. I went a bit off-topic there but it’s so frustrating to see a great game in this state.
Oh no I didn’t know about disabling seating also disables patron use. I was going to incorporate a bar at my base on a PVP server. I’ve got my workers holed up not interacting with a thing in my base to restrict undesired movement. With the increase in range this would be impossible unless I do as you’re suggested, a tavern farther away.
I think Den said that this is being considered and possibly worked on.
Right, a road map would really help to give some context. Bits and pieces in random places strung together still only paint so much of a picture. As we see the groundwork laid in these updates, it’s only partial, but for what exactly? In the meantime, we have to adjust for temporary frustration?
Does that include admins meeting noobs in private servers, as a gift kit?
Because Funcom prioritizes the issues to give to the devs, but the devs are busy with Dune. I think they have their own todo list. Some are just in program mode for (3D or) 6D immersion levels.
There was 0 changes in my gameplay since before the update.
While the problems I had before it did not changed, no new problems actually net resulted from the update.
The only thing I missed after the update was a barkeeper that I got back right after in the first fix.
Like the people tried recently, there is that “read the room thing”.
I like to post here because I do have spare time while I am cooking my mods. But most people who play the game and never bothered by any of the so called problems, they dont come here. So SOME people think everyone has the same problems because the forum Feedback category selects for people who do have them.
You can find out how that is the reality because if you go to the Creative corner or other venues in which people have lively random conversations, a lot of people do not complain about these problems people claim “everyone has”.
And that is just a hint, because the majority of the people that has no problems dont even come here. But you can find them in streams, YouTube videos, people who never posted 1 single video complaining about a series of problems people still claim “everyone has”.
And I am specially bothered by it because I do make stress tests because anything that seems problematic in my game I have to test to see if it is not my mod causing, so I do pay attention to ANY slight problem that present itself.
From the things people keep screeching here, I only see a few things happening both in my remote and local server, and Solo game:
Noses and Breasts erratic sizes. I took some time to find out if it was my own mod doing it, since it is not, as fresh install in a Ghost Machine (a machine, virtual or otherwise we use that basically have the minimal installed software to run the test we need to run) still have the problem, I went on to get it fixed by the mod
Foundation sinking in SERVERS. They tried a set of solutions and none of them work for a specific reason that is not relevant for this discussion. Once I determined, again, that my mod does not cause it, I proceeded to change the somewhat problematic spawning system to use one similar to FFXIV, in which characters are spawn from their location outwards instead of from the “heaven” downwards as the game does. That prevents the setting of floor by tracing from up, and therefore prevents foundation sinking. Still, I admit the problem exists.
Flying “crap”. A lot of the physics is crazy. Your dragged thralls, dead animals, and other “ragdoll physics” is so insane sometimes your bonk a NPC unconscious, they slide around like those plastic toys, and sink in the floor. Again, I tested to see it was not my mod doing it, once I saw it is not, I implemented a component for center of gravity that does a similar thing to the sinking solution, pinning the ragdoll to a point of gravity that keeps the character from erratically swinging around, so it does not happen. Dont really make it “realistic”, but solves the problem.
The NPC inactivity in combat. That one is the easy one. And that one is the only one I can really say something people are spewing around without knowing exactly what they are talking about, but I happen to think the same thing, but I do know the reason: The AI system is crap. You cannot use only the basic system of AI on UE4 and call it a day. You have to use it as a part of a comprehensive set of logics that is just organized by the native AI system from UE4. That is made that way for a reason: There is no way to make a system that accounts for all needs of all games made in UE all the time.
That last one is the only one I agree it is 100% lack of making something that takes work and skill to make.
But the game is not “completely trash”. It has a lot of things to it that are actually pretty good, and many things that are even unique in the gaming scene we have.
Fixed it for you. From what I can gather the majority of players never join a games forums or discords. So you really have no idea what issues they may be having.
And some people just don’t complain, doesn’t mean they aren’t having problems.
just out of curiosity, what server do you play on?
On pve-c griefing due to workers opening base doors is rampant, if you are on pve or sp, it doesn’t make a difference, but on pve-c it does
The idea behind Living Settlements has merit and was a part of the original vision long ago.
But it has been many years since it had been touched… and the process now seems to be cavalier and unconcerned with the realities and consequences in actual play.
During those years between it being mentioned as a goal and now, people got used to the way the game played. Now it is made a new.
NPCs can open your doors.
That’s hilarious.
Ruinous on PvP.
Annoying on PvE-C.
Your followers (enslaved, hired, or rescued) can teleport around. Just like followers could to catch up. Except this is to meet their “needs”. But the pathing on the game his questionable, so things get strange.
This one personally would have preferred if the ability to lock doors/make them openable only by the player characters, were already in place before they gave NPCs the ability to open them.
Failing that, leave Living Settlements turned off on all official PvP and PvE-C servers until that basic level of security is available.
There was a comment about why Companions aren’t coming to Siptah. It was the claim that very few people play on Siptah. Now, let’s apply that logic, that updates will focus on the majority of players, with no regard for leaving the others out, or even depreciation of their play experience. There is often the claim floated that the majority players are in Single Player or PvE.
But even if that claim is inaccurate…
Look at the monetization.
Which Player is also a Payer.
Builders and RPers are the target of the Bazaar.
Now, apply the logic about creating content for the majority of players, and drop the L.
Development for the majority of payers.
Personally, this one would rather they have left Living Settlements turned off on PvP and PvE-C servers.
The “thralls” are still placeable characters, can be set in staging locations, and dressed as one pleases. That’s a grand thing.
They can also be slain rather than stolen, that spices the PvP up.
It is funny that some of the people who start the noise if someone call them any names, are the ones who quickly get to talk crap about people they think will give them “cred”.
Probably a person who could not do the work they criticize even if they were handed it without any requirement.
But I still looking for the proof that this game is any different from any other game in the same “level”.
And furthermore, waiting for people who make objective complaints about something that is wrong with the game in terms of something EVERYONE dislike.
Because, ok, I said myself I know the problems the game has. That is ONE thing. One thing that never prevented me from having fun with the game.
It is like those people talking about “woke” stuff. Sure, I could spend a day laughing about some of that stupid takes, but, what is actually wrong with that besides personal ideas and values ? Not much.
The problem is that:
Where is the thing for ALL PLAYERS to fall behind ?
As far as I can see, I could point out a dozen things this game does better than Baldur’s Gate 3. Just looking the lists of fixes from BG3 since it was in EA you will really get an idea of how deranged some of the whining here is.
Ha! Baldur’s Gate devs actually fix things… AND love their players. The problem for me is that I love THIS game. Sure the update broke my mod, but I found a work-around, which I am sure made my subs happy (especially contest participants). But all I do each day is run around “herding cats” and pulling thralls out of the floor. I even locked my test crafters in a building with no doors, so now they pile on top of each other in a corner. Its ridiculous but better than getting stuck in tables, doors, etc. or disabling chairs so that my bar is empty! I sure won’t put out any more named crafters until the dust settles.
As for forum complaints, I play daily on 4 busy Official servers and host my own as well, and the majority of players complain constantly about the new AoH problems with thralls, fighting, stamina, lag etc. I am amazed that you don’t see this in server chat!
Are you sure? I can’t think of exploitive scenarios that start with me or a clan member getting in to you base.
Supposed to be coming in the next update, whether that is next week or March???
If 7D2D was third person I’d be playing it. It’s the closest I’ve come to checking all the boxes Conan does; not only is 7D2D 1st person, it’s the crappiest first person. 1st person is not hands on a camera
Once human is another one but I get camera drift while building so bad I can’t.
Thing is, think back, when was the last update that didn’t brake more then it fixed and introed more bugs then content, I can’t think of one.
If you have fixed these issues in a mod of yours, is there any chance you could link it if it is public? If it is not, it would be a great benefit to the community if you’d be either willing to release a bug fix mod with these changes, or otherwise share your work, be it explaining what to change or sharing just the dev kit files containing these changes for someone else to cook and release.
Bug fix modding sounds like one of the most productive paths forward for those of us tired of some of these issues. I have been taking a look to try to fix some issues myself in dev kit, but unfortunately even as a programmer and experienced modder for many other games, it is a slow go being very unfamiliar with (and not too fond of) Unreal Engine and its type of modern development tools.
Took 3 years to fix the fact that when you killed a companion without even recruiting them, they will revive and show up for a dialogue they should not even be part of it. That is GREAT.
And if you dont believe me, look the 3rd correction after launch.
To this day, in certain cutscenes, if you are not a human regular size male, ALWAYS, these cutscenes will show you from behind and the interlocutor with the “turn neck of the exorcist” looking at you.
This has happened since the early Early Access and was NEVER corrected.
Wanna some more ?
In many instances you cannot get combat in the way it would probably organically happen, because if you do, after the first NPC move, the game stops waiting for the NPC to make their move, but they never do, and you cant do anything about it, except reload. That has been a major problem since always because people are, and I quote the forum, “tired of losing honor mode on that”.
Wanna some more ?
You can lose EVERYTHING in your inventory in several ways that deal with “sending to the camp”. This was never corrected and many people, specially playing with some other player, have been reporting it since, again, Early Early Access.
So dont come to me with BG3 crap, because Larian:
a - Is not a Indie developer
b - Is not a skill filled developer house
c - Had the Majoral financing of Tencent to make BG3 in a bid to keep the IP, which even so they could not.
Nice try, but learn about the particular of a game before white knigthing it.
If you can’t cook, don’t criticize the chef, is a fine sentiment until we realize people are paying the professional chef to prepare food to standard.
It’s right up there with the franchise owner wheezing that McDonald’s is completely safe because their particular store front hasn’t had any reported cases of e-coli.
As far as Tencent goes…
They have a 30% stake in Larian, meanwhile, Funcom is a wholely owned subsidiary.
Anyone calling Funcom an independent studio is lying out their teeth.
Funcom has been Tencent 's creature for over 4 years now.
Conan is by far my favorite game, since release. As for BG3, I never experienced any of these bugs nor did our family or friends (5 complete playthroughs for my husband alone)–BUT in Conan, we can’t go five minutes without problems. Again, I do not see how you can play on official and not see the strife within chat. Most players suffer with AoH.
Wait, wait, wait… Are you SERIOUSLY trying to say Larian is NOT an indie developer but Funcom is!!! I’m honestly flabbergasted at that statement.
Either you have your head so far up funcoms ass or you are just blind.
Also sure it took Larian 3 years to fix a bug and Funcom fixed the falling through floors bug in what? A year? 2 years? 7 years? Oh wait they haven’t.
And just because YOU don’t see the issues doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Sure not everyone is complaining because they love the game and just want to play regardless. So pop into chat, ask if anyone is having problems and watch it come alive. So before you go white knighting a game, be sure you learn about the particulars of the population.
I love people who put words in the posts of others.
I never said anything about Funcom in my post.
It is good you make these crappy arguments so I can block you before I think you can really make a point.
